With that large footprint they have to work with, they could've put it to better use. Universal needs more rides like E.T. With Fallon opening up in 2017, another screen based ride is ridiculous. Soon they should just give you the glasses at the park entrance and tell us to leave them on our faces.

Heres the thing, its not like Universals getting rid of practical elements in their parks completely. I mean hell; Nintendo is rumored to be mostly screen-less, Kong is mixing the two together; and for SLOP (Not saying if its either USH or UO), its seeming like a practical addition more akin to Poohs Hunny Hunt from Tokyo.

There needs to be equivalent exchange, and as much as I hate to say it; if you were to tell me that Fast and Furious would incorporate a mix of practical effects (Robotics/Wind/fire/E.T.C.) and the screen based elements of the 360, and Musion; sign me up. As long as they would not have the screen based element as a priority; I think that it wouldn't be much of a thing to whine about.

Here's what we know:

Trams similar to Kong. the 360 scene will be a portion of the ride, but set in San Fran instead of LA. The building is comically large, possibly the biggest on property.

The last part tells me it'll be different enough

That last part makes me very excited for this ride. I can't stand the franchise, but there's so much potential for UC to work with.

Plus, if the 360 video does take part in SF, it means that ILM will have to make video alterations. I really think they'll fix the issues from USH the second time around.

Yes I think they will try to make this ride a new experience and with that much room this ride could have a lot of unique elements

But all of that is rumored to come and not for many many years. For now they took out two practical effect rides and replaced them with screen based rides. Studios balance is all out of whack now. One of the people in our party can't take the rocking back and forth of simulators so they ended up sitting out a ton of rides. While we all had a good time, everyone enjoyed MK much more because there were more things we all could go on together.

Look I like Universal, but I can see their weaknesses and right now studios weakness is having too many screen based rides. F&F and Fallon will add to the weakness and relief is at least 4 years away and that is only if the rumors are true about Nintendo.

I think a different IP should have been selected for F&F. I am less upset about Fallon because that plot of land is so small less could be done about it. But there is so much more they could have done with this large plot of land, especially since it is in a park that doesn't have a lot of land available.

For me, it's such an obvious choice and they're smart to use the IP.

It's their largest franchise and it perfectly fits the theme of Universal's attractions - something goes wrong, destruction and chaos ensue.

While I agree that I would PREFER a trade off (I'm not gonna sit here and lament earthquake or twister and if you want to that's your prerogative), I have to let reality and reason chime in.

I have to understand that universal is going to play to their strengths and their business strategy/model I can decide whether it is for or against my interests and likes, but I cannot expect Universal to cater to my tastes.

I don't like saying a park NEEDS something bc most of the time that's just me expressing something that I WANT.

Well I used to think Universal needed something like Nintendo (kid friendly, huge amount of nostalgia, etc.) and clearly they thought so too. Sometimes we can make the right calls as fans.

I think most everyone gets why Universal is putting Fast & Furious (as an IP) into the park, and why they're taking the (apparent) approach to it that they are. Those of us who may be skeptical of it are not baffled by the reasoning, we're just questioning whether or not that's the best approach they could take, and whether or not it's the best usage of that particular (large) plot of land.

True, we won't really have enough perspective to objectively answer those two questions until the ride's open, but I think it's fair to extrapolate a little based on both what insiders' reports about the project are and the reception of the Hollywood version of the concept.

I understand that people don't like screens, but we have no idea if this ride will have limited practical sets mixed or not. It could be a decent mix like Kong will be.

Also, screens are the only way to make this ride really work IMO, it's using real actors compared to cartoons like Disney.

I'm expecting this to be terrible, and maybe that's the best view to take, because if it isn't, and I have a good time, it will soften the blow. My bar is so low for this attraction the ride can't possibly be that bad.

But if they tear down MiB, mummy, or ET and cram in another screen based attraction like this... ooooh.

Actors have nothing to do with it. This could have been a coaster like experience through a city set piece with a mixture of screens. This might be a fun ride, but I completely disagree that this ride could "only" be made using screens.

This is too big to fail. Universal knows the problems associated with the Hollywood Studio Tour segment addition. It's probably been surveyed to death. Universal Creative will add some, subtract some, and the end result will be something somewhat, though not totally, different from Hollywood. There's too much at stake to recreate an average attraction. The final result will probably be something the tourists will like. But it might not please the more hardcore, passionate, or die hard theme park fans. (minor edit)

Well at least we've got plenty of other things coming and this isn't the main attraction. I think Volcano Bay is the real star for next year. Fallon and Furious are just necessary updates for USF to better utilize those spaces crowd wise.

Or, it's not even a blip for the people who care zero about water parks (which is a lot of people.)

My question - what IS people's breaking point and are some people not honest with themselves about what Universal is/is becoming. We are talking 3 years before some people will MAYBE see elements/attractions/diversity they claim the park NEEDS. Or, is there no breaking point and people just have a desire to express their wants/opinions?

Please don't @ me with some nonsense about how you are able to "want more"/ critique something you love. You're more than welcome to - but you'll just sound like a reality-ignoring complainer.

Yes. I'm getting a bit old for the water park scene, but I'm big time enthused for this. (VB). I'll definitely be spending some serious vacation time next year exploring it. Heck, it's a whole new park to play in, even though it's a water theme park, albeit a stepped up version of anything else out there. It excites me more than F&F/Fallon combination, or even Avatar, though I'm one of the, at least it seems, very few Avatar theme park fans. Of course, just my own personal opinion.

What? If these attractions are fun I'll be fine with them and I'm sure there will be at least some physical elements to F&F with the building being so large. I'm just looking more forward to Volcano Bay, and Kong in a few weeks. That's all.

I'm not sure what you're confused about because you just answered my question.

I have a strong strong feeling that this and Kong will be very similar in the practical vs screen category (with screen dominating majority of the experience.)

You're totally fine and I appreciate/liked hearing your answer. I'm sarcastic/cut-and-dry (comedy writer for a massive network by day) and I know I can come off as abrasive or "attacking" when I ask questions/want to know "Why" someone feels a certain way.

I just really love to hear other people's thoughts and opinions (when they can verbalize them/clear thought is present.) Growing up gay and tortured in the south, I understood people were going to disagree with me/my being, I just wanted people to understand where I'm coming from - so it's very important (and, frankly, beautiful) to me to try to learn where others are coming from and respect that. Thank you.
