Fair. Although I wouldn't call a few of them "strictly" Disney insiders.

It's the "strictly" Universal insiders who don't think it will happen, that's more of the red flag.

What I meant by that is you don't see people like Jim Hill, Robert Niles, and others saying it's coming. They are saying it's not.

But nice to see one more holds more water than the other in your eyes ....

Also, the idea of screwing with Future World akin to Frozen in World Showcase... There are few sacred cows left but somehow Future World is one of them.

And the more I learn about Frozen and its politics and the powers at play the more I get the feelings they knew exactly what they were doing.

Proving World Showcase needs more ride capacity...

Jim Hill saying anything means very little to me and Robert Niles, while he hasn't said yes, hasn't denied GotG coming to WDW either.

That's not a very fair thing to say at all. You brought it up.

By the way, Robert has already commented on it as well (Why Guardians of the Galaxy > Twilight Zone for Disney's Tower of Terror

Honestly, if this is what it takes to get new rides built in WS, it's not the end of the world to me. It still looks like Norway on the outside and is a quaint ride on the inside. If we get more attractions around the lagoon because of this ride, then good.

Jim Hill was bad example.

But Niles has, on our podcast, but also mentions a discussion between both parties can be had.

Let me clarify, I didn't say because they are a Disney Insider is why I'm doubting it, it's because they are the only ones saying it's happening.

It'd be like if I'm the only person saying "Hey this is something coming to Universal" and no one else is on-board with it. I'd get it if there was a caution, even with a good track record.

Also, that article was in regards to DL's ToT. Didn't mention anything about Orlando.

There actually was a very very small snipet about Orlando in the article that said "(and perhaps even at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida)". Of course i'm assuming he was just guessing at that point so I agree, that article isn't the best example.

Ah, I hadn't heard the podcast in question. He very offhandedly mentioned "(and perhaps even at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida)" in the article. I just took that as an admission that it wasn't legally impossible, but probably read too much into the statement.

I also didn't mean to imply Universal folks are less accurate, just that we are discussing a Disney rumour first and foremost. I wouldn't exactly expect Universal to go around promoting that Disney can use GoTG (unless they got something out of it, of course).

I also very much doubted the legitimacy of ToT actually converting in DHS. At the time I thought it was way beyond reaching for it to actually come to fruition. But it seems odd a whole whack of people at least think it is possible. They may very well all be perpetuating the same misinformed source though.

Well, I wasn't saying any "brand" was less accurate or not, just that it seems the rumor seemingly is only coming from one side. i.e. With Potter, you had us and them saying "It's happening".

Yes, we cover all parks but UO is our specialty. That's not to say we don't have our fair share of info on WDW.

This is different kind of rumor though since it does involve both Resorts. The only thing is with Universal, we have evidence that shows it can't happen unless a deal is struck between both. Per our sources, they aren't exactly looking to deal, but not saying it's out of the question. When we posted our Marvel contract article, a lot of other sites personally praised that it was accurate and concise.

I have no problem eating crow though.

Maybe Disney wants to trigger a lawsuit. I mean its the fastest and easiest way to force Universal into making a deal. Universal doesn't want to make a deal so lets do something so they take us to court. Though according to the contract, they would go to arbitration first, I don't see either side conceding to the other which takes it to a judge. The way its argued will determine everything.

Maybe the meeting was like..

Universal: "Hey Disney! After our Hulk refurb, we're going to keep sprucing up Marvel Super Hero Island using the Marvel film universe characters, including a new Avengers E-ticket. Feel free to use Guardians wherever you want!"

Disney: "Hm. Yes. The possibilities are endless. Tower of Guardians, Guardians' Energy Adventure, Starlord's Laugh Floor, It's a Small Galaxy..."

Exactly and Guardians is not a franchise I am sure Uni has plans for going forward...

I have been saying FOREVER that Disney is too cheap to spend so much time on ride development on a ride they know they can't use. It makes no sense!!

So either the contract is not being interpreted as we think or there are talks and enough plans to go ahead with the Green light!

Previous Rumors report this will be a coaster and I'd say it will 75% be replacing Energy. That show building is massive!

Couple points on use of GoTG:

(1) I've never seen chapter and verse (i.e. a specific pre-1990 issue of Avengers) where any of the Guardians officially joined the Avengers in-universe, or a run of Avengers issues where they continually appeared across multiple story arcs. I think at least one is necessary to prove they are in "The Avengers family."

(2) The fact Universal failed to object to the GotG monorail wrap traveling thru EPCOT--unlike the Avengers wrap--and StarLord and Gamara (?) appearing at an MK event suggests Universal itself thinks the Guardians are fair game for WDW.

(3) Infinity War is meaningless. The contract covers the comic books--as they existed ca. 1989--not movies that came over a decade later. For example, Iron Patriot (a 2000s villain in the comics, Rhodey in the MCU Iron Man movies) is fair game for WDW to use*--we know this because they used him, not Tony, for the premiere of IM2. Similarly, if instead of Black Panther the MCU introduced a new non-comics hero, say "Pink Squirrel," Pink Squirrel would be off-limits in IoA even if he received top billing in Avengers 4.

(4) Every GotG villain so far, tho, is off-limits to WDW, including the Collector, who I see mentioned quite a bit. If they fight anyone will have to be generic robots or aliens. If this is a coaster, I don't see that being an issue.

* Iron Patriot is an odd duck, because his comics secret identity--Norman Oswald--is firmly in the Spidey family as Green Goblin, while I'm 75% sure Rhodey's comic book alias--War Machine--would meet the contract's rather broad definition of "Avengers family," as would a non-costumed Col. James Rhodes. But Iron Patriot, as long as he doesn't take the mask off, is stuck at WDW, not IoA. Again, when this contract was drafted, even the execs of nearly bankrupt Marvel would've laughed you out of the room if you told them Iron Man and Star Lord would be household names in a two decades. I'm sure no bothers were given re: even more obscure characters.

@SeventyOne

Point two isn't true. Avengers monorail never traveled the Epcot path, only the MK loop (resort only? Not sure on that). The Starlord and Gamara character were at DHS party and outsourced, not Disney. So that's not as cut and dry.

Only because his name has come up in this thread recently as a source--I remember Jim Hill actually drew a line in the sand, said Potter was a lock for WDW, not IoA. Staked his credibility on it. Seemed to be the beginning of his downhill slide.

So yeah, I don't take anything as a lock until I'm actually riding it.
