Also, the temp setup they have to check tickets was slow. There were like 5 TMs under that tent, two portable ticket machines, only one actively scanning.

Since you brought this up, noticed there are a lot of odd operation choices this year for HHN:
  • They had 2 scanners checking express at Dead Man's this weekend, even though Halloween is a more popular house and only had one.
  • The twisted taters tent crawls because they only have one TM fulfilling orders, while they have 2-3 registers taking orders and 1 TM dedicated to drinks. They need to make both TMs fulfill orders or move one of the registers to fulfillment.
  • The Weeknd/Monsters house entrances are confusing for most guests since Monsters entrance is right behind the Weeknd's portal sign... yet the Weeknd entrance is located a bit farther back behind it.

I have to say I’ve been to the event one total time this year and unlike previous years feel no particular urge to go back. Just feel pretty meh about this year all in all. I actually want to compare it a bit to 22 where there was two all-timers imo (Gothic & Dead End) and the rest of the event was either below average or just mid.

Agreed. This year feels off.

I personally enjoyed the houses more last year I think even with the COVID stuff.

I have the same sentiment as well - solid 3/4 houses, but the rest are very forgettable.

This year's theme is great but being held back by the atrocious park music.

Heavier crowds this year are making it difficult to enjoy the event. (Surprisingly, the Weeknd hasn't made the big impact expected...yet).

I like this year's park music, thank god it's different than more techno or metal.

I do appreciate that they tried something different, but none of the parkwide loop is memorable to me. There are usually about 3 tracks that instantly take me back to the event when I hear them, but I don’t think anything is memorable this year.

Apparently, you're not familiar with Another Way Out...

Besides that, I think Blues de la Muerte is the only other one that will take me back.

Listening to Another Way Out now and it doesn’t ring a bell. Maybe I’ll notice it more on my next trip. I think a violin version of Moonlight Sonata is going to be the song that takes me back to the event more than any thing else haha

Just feels SUPER neutral. It reminds me a lot of HHN 26 or 28. I don't think I'll look back and say "Wow, that was NOT a great year", looking at you HHN20, 22 & 23, but I don't think I'll look back on it memorably either. It has some houses that have been good but nothing overall great.

I do feel like it's a move in the right direction with houses & streets, but BOY is it a step back operationally.

Definitely not their best, yet, there are some things they did this year that I hope will carry on into the future

It's hard for an event that's supposed to be surprising to be surprising when it has been around so long

Also it is waaaay too crowded

I'm not sure what we can do about either of those things tbh

Increase capacity & change the script from being so reliant on triggers.

That's a vastly over simplified answer to a complicated problem, but in essence add 2 shows WITH seating, add an additional experience of some sort.

What's the music you guys heard? I heard motorhead and other type of metal?

And even as a metalhead I kind of hate the music this year. Is this kind of Rockabilly punk like metal lol.

Capacity is the easy one -- limit the number of people you let in the gates. Whether you allocate scarcer entry by selling fewer tickets or charging more is up to the event (latter probably preferable to shareholders), but it's not like they don't already limit the number of people in the park.

Shows are trickier. Other than Bourne, which I don't know UOR is willing to sacrifice for 3+ months with prep, not sure there's a large enough venue to justify the effort. And the crowd is notoriously fickle about shows. For every one that works, there's one or two that fell flat. Also Equity-level performers cost a lot more than scare-actors. But I do agree HHN needs more places to sit.

I just hope they are able to get Ghoulish back and running before the event is over. I missed not getting to see a lagoon show on my first trip.

For them wanting to expand food offerings as well, not enough places to sit by them. People have to end up sitting on the curb.

Universal needs to make HHN every night. They could put another show where blue man group was. They could put another show by Mel's. They could limit the days of use for multi night passes without raising the single night prices. The thing is Universal wants to pack the parks so people think they "need" express.

I was going to suggest further limiting express

I like the triggers because triggers don't get tired

A big issue with some other haunts is some of the scareactors push themselves too hard and their voices/bodies are done halfway through the event run

Although I do like the unpredictable/improv nature of the HOS events...I'm sure there's a balance (and I honestly think SW will find it first)

I did notice fairly large lines for Express this year...it seemed almost not worth it considering the price

Also I continue to wonder if the passes are helping or hurting (ROF/FFP)

One thing I have personally noticed, is that most of the houses this year feel repetitive ( the rooms feel repetitive)
I'm not talking about the quality, at all,
But, let's say Dead Man's Pier: Winter's Wake, as amazing as it is, every room feels similar to each other. ( Descendants of Destruction, chupacabra, coven, bug house)
It Seems like all the originals are kind of repetitive. ( Even if they have good concepts)
I really like Descendants but the whole house feels like one long room
Some people might love this, but on repeat visits it feels a little monotonous.
The rooms in the houses last year felt more varied. Variety Within the same house.
I know everyone has their favorite houses, but this year it just kinda feels repetitive. (Coven does change by the end but it wasn't good enough)

That can be one reason that I don't feel as excited for repeat visits. I don't know. The house concepts are good but last year's houses felt more unique.

I’m glad it’s not just me. Thought maybe I was just getting use to the whole event and format. I only started going since 27and been wowed ever since. It’s still HHN , the detail and care that goes into the event is amazing . Another thing is at this point I don’t jump for any of the scares which sucks.
