Which is why I think going with the prison on fire would be a compelling (and honestly, timely) approach to it. Suddenly, a house that would have featured vignettes of Deadites and their victims could feature vignettes of victims trapped in a burning building with minimal conversion. Throw in some hyper-aggressive guards who are refusing to let the prisoners out despite the death trap they’re in…

The horror in this house comes from the fact that *you* (the guests) are not doing anything about it. Our own apathy and voyeurism is suddenly turned against us. How do you take a house known for the extreme it went to without being offensive? Do that. Make the guests the monsters.

EDIT - And honestly, “Fires of Hellgate Prison” is a kickass title.

This sounds like a scene out of Silent Hill and I lurve it!

The Women’s prison idea sounds like a great one. Super interesting.

I like air conditioning. The loss of Louie’s hurts the NY Stay and ScreM.

Plus it is too packed there, and unless you really are near the front of the pack you still end up waiting too long.

Yeah, I’ve definitely seen some interesting comments about how the backlash to an IP was never this bad, but, I have to wonder if those people were even around the HHN community when the Eilish house was known.

Everytime I think of Spirits of the Coven, I think of the Axeman AHS: Coven or the scene in TVD scene where all the Bennett witches helped Bonnie. I hope the house is neither, just what I think of when I hear the name.

They were called out by the National Mental Heath Associations of Florida. In reference to the mascot who was a bald inmate in a straitjacket.

First time I heard about this. And any complaint clearly missed the entire point of that year's advertising. The event was "twice the size, twice the fear" resulting in finding your "breaking point" of being scared. He wasn't just a straight up Asylum patient, the fear Universal generated is what made him reach his "breaking point".

Also that commercial pretty much didn't go past the internet/TV into the event itself. So any protests would've been pointless. The only "mental health" controversy that made a news riot was from Knotts a few years back & their VR thing at Scary Farm.

HHN has riled up the non-horror church going parents in the past, but 2004 was not it. Now 2002 with The Caretaker's glowing eyed I-4 billboard!

2010 was my first HHN (hence my username), so I know very well what the zones were on that year. The Coven was based on a coven of witches seeking revenge on the people who burned the Salem witches at the stake, which made me think of one of the houses that is still rumored right now. It was located at the Shrek Alley in Production Central.

The use of "brew" and "spirits" in the logo has me wondering if this is possibly a Coven/Demon Cantina mash-up, in spirit if not literally. Colonial tavern where the booze is being brewed in cauldrons behind the scenes for nefarious purposes. Or maybe modern day, the logo does recall Spirits on Bourbon St in New Orleans.
