I was literally in the middle of doing this but gave up. Glad I did cuz it would be awkward if we posted the same thing but mine was just slightly worse.
I'll take a crack at getting a running, inevitably will be wrong:
So we're left with...
- Hitchcock and/or Psycho
- Gremlins
- What We Do In The Shadows
- Marvel (Zombies)
- Ghostbusters Afterlife
- Buffy
- Teen Wolf
- MHA
- AoT
- Godzilla
- Casper
- The Terminator
- Demon Slayer
- John Wick
- Goonies
- Blade Runner
Soooo, immediate rule-outs, at least personally.
My Hero Academia is gonna be one. Not even CLOSE to horror-adjacent, I don't understand how it was even brought up in the first place.
Marvel next, for obvious reasons.
John Wick is again not even close to a horror-adjacent.
Teen Wolf definitely has nostalgia appeal, but I'm not sure if it would be a "headliner".
I'm gonna be bold and just say Godzilla isn't happening. Would absolutely love it, but I just don't understand how it could be logistically plausible. AoT for similar reasons, plus we discussed the property not being an anime.
While I think Blade Runner would rock, I don't really see it as a "headliner", either. That's debatable though, but I don't think it has the GP pulling power of Ghostbusters or BJ to write off as a non-horror with Halloween-season love, if that makes sense.
Casper just feels a bit
too family friendly, but I suppose I may be wrong.
So now... ROUND 2! FIGHT!
- Hitchcock
- Gremlins
- WWDITS
- Ghostbusters Afterlife
- Buffy
- Terminator
- Demon Slayer
- Goonies
Alright. Demon Slayer. I believe we narrowed down that animes are most likely not included. But I thought I'd play ball. I'm not a fan of the show, but it's UNDOUBTABLY horror adjacent. Super gorey, cool demon designs. It's one of the most popular things on streaming platforms right now, especially with people around 13-24. That's PRIME HHN territory age-wise. It definitely has a lot of pulling power to it, but at the end of the day, does A&D wanna bother? I'm not super into that scene, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not too sure how much of a passion project a late 2010s-era anime is for the team. And I also don't really see why corporate would push the property on the design team, it seems too much like a tonal dissonance on both sides. Gonna rule it out for now.
As for Goonies, I'll take the stance of a GP member. Every single "horror-lite" property that's appeared at HHN has a reason to be there. Ghostbusters and BJ are CLASSICS that are always enjoyed around the Halloween season. And for a reason! They're spooky! I have never heard of a single person who considers Goonies a "spooky classic". It definitely has its moments, but I just don't think anyone would personally see it.
I'm going to make my final running Gremlins, Hitchcock, WWDITS, Buffy, and Terminator. WWDITS would definitely be a dark horse, but I see working. It's popular enough to be warranted and spooky enough to fit.
I truthfully don't know which one in particular. That can be for someone else to try, but there's my crack at it. Probably wrong, but this is the most fun I've had speculating here!
