Don’t slander my bro Bloodmoon like that.
It was my favorite house from 32 and broke my top 5 of all time.

I went through Blood Moon last, at the end of the night, walked right on - no one in line.
Holy S--T was that house amazing to me. I swear, the actors in that house knew we were the only ones in there so they just F--KED with us the entire time. I remember a specific actor with a prop bladed weapon following us through almost the entire house and i turned at one point and said "don't you have to get back to your starting position" and they shook their head NO from under their cloak.
That SENT me.

reviews were pretty poor overall. videos didn't look great either.

depends on the casts because both dueling dragons and last of us could be amazing or boring depending on the interaction. both those houses had some amazing actors. the sets for dragons were amazing.

what's your top 5?

and speaking of insidious, I never cared that much for the first house we had in 2015 much either. it was kind of generic. but it depends on the casts.

My top 5 are:
1.) Wicked Growth.
2.) Yeti: Campground Kills.
3.) Goblin’s Feast.
4.) Legends Collide/Monsters: Unmasked.
5.) Slaughter Sinema 2.

You're likely meant to infer that "the month" is the end of that sentence. But I think "the week" is also a possible ending.

I know this is spec for 34, but I can't pass up commenting on some of the other discussion here - especially regarding Insidious. This is absolute proof that the houses at HHN being great or not is very, very subjective. One would think - well, of course, it's subjective. However, if you consistently read these forums, that's not necessarily true.

To be fair, there are sometimes overwhelming majority opinions that show it's possibe to have a real, legit banger of a house, or a giant turd of a house (i.e. everyone, I think, LOVED Wicked Growth, but loathed the last Chucky house). That being said, most of the houses don't get such majority opinions of that level. As we know, people's rankings for houses could even change within the same season!

I mentioned somewhere here before that I thought Insidious was incredible. Again, PERSONAL opinion. I, too, am one of those who does not get scared. I'm too old, I've been to way too many haunts (including 19 years of HHN) for me to be "scared". I am always thrilled and impressed when some especially hyped scareactor can get me to jump (or utter a string of words I'm not allowed to post here). That being said, there was something about Insidious last year that got into my head. It is one of the only times I can remember actually feeling anxious before, during and after walking through. It was the perfect combination of a very aggressive cast, the extremely creepy music/sounds and the way they hid the actors for more unpredictability on when/where they'd actually pop out at you. My wife and friends also loved the house, but they really made fun of me for my visceral reaction to it. I can't even explain it to you. It just is. So, yeah, this house may be "overrated" to some, but for me, it was mind blowing. On the flip side, I thought Blood Moon was boring. I thought Exorcist was garbage. Would I purposely write a scathing review of those houses? No. Clearly many of you loved them, so good for you! Again, subjective.

For the cynical out there, or for those who think they are unscareable (I know, made up word): I recommend trying to embrace the event with an open mind and see the houses through the vision of its creators. Learn to let yourself be immersed, and you might be surprised what could happen. It's such grand fun, and it's why I still attend religiously year after year.

Lastly, I must say I did chuckle a bit at some of the "top 5" lists here.. especially when the lists are from people attending 7 years or less. No, that's not being an HHN snob. It is simply a completely different perspective. Actually, I have some pity on those so young that you've already missed some of the GOATS from years ago, i.e. Cabin in the Woods, Nightingales: Blood Prey, American Horror Story (all of them), Body Collectors, Halloween (2014), Jack Presents 25 Years, The In-Between, Gothic, the Wolfman and Winter's Night. These are all high on my all time greats list (I purposely didn't include more recents like Scarecrow, Wicked Growth, Tomb of the Ancients, etc because I'm trying to illustrate what a rich history there is here and how fortunate some of us are to have seen so much of it). It will be interesting to see how these GOAT lists evolve over the next decade of horror. What fun we will all have!

Exorcist Believer was a masterpiece idc. Imo I think that house was even better than Insidious. Both are great, but Exorcist Believer for me was more consistent even if at times Insidious was slightly more scary. That house (Exorcist Believer) always made me anxious. It was so loud and messed up lol

While I enjoyed HHN 33 - I do agree with those who said Insidious would have faded into the background more in a better year.

I too personally thought Believer was a home run. I think it's because we hadn't seen the movie yet, that i was definitely more scared than Insidious. In the line for Insidious, i told my gf about all the movies and showed her pictures on my phone about each of the ghosts/demons and gave her expectations. We were both prepared, and she had seen the first movie a long time ago but no others, and y'all know that house hit ALL of em; Great representation of each!

For Believer, we didn't have anything to go off of, and frankly, it did the movie an injustice by being such a great house(cause the movie sucked ass). When in line, my gf admitted to me point blank that she never saw the original Exorcist cause she was so scared of it as a kid and her parents trauma-dumping on her about it that she wouldn't want to see the new one either and actually hesitated even going into the house in the first place. At first it was a no, and i would go in by myself, but then she felt bad and said, "okay, i'll go, but i'm not looking at sh-t, i'm looking down and closing my eyes and i'm gonna try not to cry." She was a trooper, but i'd be lying if her anxiety wasn't fully realized walking even into the first room and smelling the bile/manure smell and seeing the two girl props hiding in the corner - it was eyes closed from that point forward - and it got me on edge all the more, guiding her through it.

I've been going for years, and talked her into joining me in 2021, but i'm not as seasoned as hunny. While i don't hold as much reverence for older houses, i get it. For me, it's hard because i don't remember ones from 8+ years ago as good as i do the ones from 5< years ago, for reasons that aren't at all related to substances i maybe should not have been taking before going to HHN in the first place. lol I too appreciate the beauty of it and there's one part of me that will always call a house amazing because it hits a fear i've had since a child(Pandora's Box, Legends Collide) or more often than not just because i really like the theme and subject matter on display(Dead Man's Pier, Case Files: Legendary Truth) OR it's just an awesome IP to have at HHN(Cabin in the Woods, House of 1000 Corpses).

I am firmly in the "if Terrifier is coming, it BETTER Terrify" camp.

Thanks for this! You also illustrated my point in a really thoughtful way. There are many houses that can hit a person based on so many things that have nothing to do with HHN. It could be how you grew up, what your parents taught you, whether you were religous or not (or still are), etc.. all these things color our perceptions whether we realize it or not. So, when it comes to what terrifies or even slightly spooks us as individuals, it's truly unique to you and your experiences. Of course, a Halloween event tries for broad strokes (if they're smart) to cover as many of those things that may resonate. We all experience them differently. I love this. Thanks LPCapD.

When it comes to houses that really deliver on scares, part of it is definitely due to the cast bringing it all to life, but it's also by design. Great example is Insidious which gave many of its scare actors multiple scares, some even got three places to wreak havoc in. It was purposely designed to attack you from everywhere with no room to breathe, moreso than others.

But when I look at Terrifier, that series is not that type of house. It's really more suited as your gore/kill showcase type of house, and those don't hit the same as your Insidious's, E:B's or Scarecrows. While those were absolutely relentless, the other type of house gives you ample time to breathe for any kill scene you come across.

Even if HNN doesn't have any updates or anything, they have a civic duty to issue a new spec map to get this forum out of crazy topics being discussed. Just a new map with different clipart all over the place to change the course of discussion. And, what the hell, throw in 11 or 12 of them to get people all riled up :)

If they aren’t lowkey loaded with new info or ideas they aren’t gonna make a map, and they shouldn’t.
The question though is WHEN are things going to start becoming more clear if at all?
