The TV version that they're adapting absolutely is a sci-fi western. Cowboys and lassos and desert town shootouts and all. The games strike a different tone and if the house focuses on the vaults it might be able to go in a different direction but the show is 100% heavily western-influenced.

The originals look good, though personally they don’t excite me as much as last year.

There’s a weird lack of variety to the houses - two slasher houses, two comedy-tinged western houses, two killer cuddly things played straight houses. It feels a bit like, after 2024, there was a lot of corporate meddling in the lineup.

since when is fallout comedy tinged western?! it's more like an extremely deranged "the jetsons", to me at least. maybe it's coz I played the games as well, but I have a really hard time seeing how no one thinks fallout can be scary as hell

I mean, Fallout takes inspiration from Westerns, but "Western lava demons" and "western-flavored retro-futuristic post apocalypse" still just seem like two completely different things. It's like saying The Purge and Independence Day are the same because they're both set in LA.

I’d say it’s a bit more like drawing a comparison between Mandalorian and Firefly. It’s not simply a matter of setting.

Even though I am very excited for FNAF my satisfaction is not entirely bent on that.

Ok, originally I wasn’t on board with this house when it was speculated as a “Vikings” original. However, after seeing the artwork, and reading the description I am now very hyped for this one. It’s given me Scary Tales/ Narnia vibes.

Really excited for all the originals this year. They feel fresh with concepts/creatures that haven't been utilized in a bit (Hatchet & Chains notwithstanding). Now, hopefully they can all deliver!

This is what I was getting at - the Western influence is definitely there, but it's not in the same realm as H&C or Ghost Town.

While the Fallout show itself is definitely western-inspired, I don't think that'll translate much to the house itself. I'm expecting a more Descendants vibe, albeit a bit sillier.

If you've done Bugs Eaten Alive, that should be the tone of Fallout. It also has a similar aesthetic to Fallout and Fallout has the radroaches which are basically just big cockroaches which were in Bugs.

It's so close to the vibe, I initially thought it was a replacement for not getting Fallout. Bzzzcon legitimately could have been a company inside the Fallout universe.

Hopefully, despite Cooper plastered all over the preview merch, they're letting them do an original story within the IP.

Ehhh… I don’t think you have to simplify too much to see the similarities. As I tried to indicate, it’s not just similarities of subgenre or setting but of tone as well. I recall that Legacy was skeptical of Hatchet because it seemed too similar to Fallout, and I think that’s really the least redundant of the pairs.

Not a huge deal, there’s still a lot to like. I was an outlier in really liking the 2024 lineup and I suspect I’ll be an outlier in having some doubts about this one. I hope the scarezone rumors are correct, because those actually appeal to me more then most of the houses.

My concern was that Fallout’s marketing was going to focus on a deformed-face, bounty-hunting cowboy (the Ghoul) and that Hatchet and Chains was going to focus on deformed-face, bounty-hunting cowboys. From a general public perspective, it’s going to get confusing.

I honestly think Bugs probably was a Fallout replacement at the time. A couple years pass, a popular TV show gets renewed for a second season, suddenly there's something to market and the IP is a whole lot more available.

Bzzzcon absolutely does sound like something straight out of Fallout - I can so easily picture a side mission where you need to go to the headquarters for extermination supplies to help a settlement fight off a bug infestation lol

I remember there being chatter about Ghostbusters being a "cold house" but I never noticed it feeling notably cooler than any other air conditioned soundstage. I want this one to feel like the habitat at the end of Penguin Trek dammit

Really doesn't feel like there are any standout "novelty" original houses this year, especially compared to last year's Slaughter Sinema 2, Goblin's Feast, and Major Sweets. Every idea on the board right now feels like something I would've thought of if they asked me to pitch (maybe not the lava monster part of Hatchet & Chains). Not necessarily a bad thing but it does mean all these houses kinda need to be focused on scares or extremely impressive sets since the environments aren't really unique on their own. Hope that portends a scarier year all-around!
