So I also went yesterday and managed to do everything, plus all of the backlot mazes twice. I have to say that Halloween II was definitely my favorite maze this year with Freddy vs. Jason not far behind.
Exorcist: I don't think that it was as bad as people have been saying and I actually enjoyed all of it, other than the empty black hallways. And I haven't seen the movie either. The head-spinning scene was done exactly as I expected, and I don't know why I've heard complaints on here from so many people. I don't see how else they could've done it. Though despite the fact that I enjoyed it, I wouldn't suggest waiting too long for it.
American Horror Story: This maze was very well-done, and super long. Despite the fact that I have never watched a single episode of the show, I really enjoyed the maze. The sets looked great and I really enjoyed going through it. (And this isn't really related to the maze itself, but I also met the actress who plays "Pepper" in the show, and that was really cool, even for someone who doesn't watch the show!) Overall, I thought that it was very well done and had a great number of scares.
Freddy vs. Jason: Absolutely loved this maze. I loved everything from the facade to all of the great scares inside! You get to be caught in the middle of Freddy and Jason fighting to the death, and I won't say anymore than that to avoid spoilers, but it was an incredible maze. I also got to see both endings to the maze, so that was really cool as well! Do not skip this maze!
Halloween: Hell Comes to Haddonfield: This was by far my favorite of the night. I recently watched Halloween II, so being able to experience the events of the movie in person was incredible. The hot tub kill involved real water, which I wasn't expecting at all, and I thought that it was cool to see this in a maze. The entire maze was incredibly well-done, and I thought that the ending to the maze was great as well (I won't spoil it though!) Just make sure that you experience this, whether you have seen the movies or not.
Krampus: Krampus does not disappoint. It was much scarier than I expected, and I loved it! The sets looked great, and I loved looking at all of the little details as well. It's a beautifully well-done maze with plentiful scares, and I highly recommend that you go through it. It had one of the shortest wait times all night long, so feel free to go through it multiple times to pick up all of the little details and of course, more scares.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: I wasn't sure of what to expect from this maze, but I honestly think that this one was one of the scariest simply because of its length. It was wayyyyyyy longer than I expected, which made it all the more terrifying. The sets looked great, and the props were very gruesome to say at the least. I haven't seen the movies, but I understood the overall storyline and I think that it was presented well, especially in a space that I (once) thought was small. I wouldn't say that it was one of my favorites, but I enjoyed it overall.
Eli Roth Presents Terror Tram: Most of my problem with this year's Terror Tram wasn't the theme itself, but it was the way that crowds were handled. it took over thirty minutes to make it through simply because we were backed up from around the corner of the Bates Motel, all the way through War of the Worlds. And it didn't help that a tram in front of us broke down as well, so that was a bit annoying. I liked the storyline and the scares themselves, and I definitely prefer the new route over the old one, although I think that I enjoyed Terror Tram: Survive the Purge much more. Beware of the backup here, and I'm not sure if I would do this again because of my bad experience. I wish I could have legitimately enjoyed it, but the crowd flow discouraged me from truly enjoying this year's theme.
The Walking Dead Attraction: It's not much different from the daytime version, and I honestly think that the nighttime version should be the daytime version. Most of the scares were the same, although there were a few walkers added in some of the scenes. I wouldn't suggest doing this at Horror Nights unless you've done everything and you're trying to kill time.
The Purge Scarezones (Including Gauntlet of Fear): Now I was very impressed with all of them. Especially Gauntlet of Fear. It was long, had a generous number of scares, and it had no wait every time that I went though it. Definitely make time to go through this scare zone at one point (or more!) The backlot scarezones were enjoyable too, and I thought that the costumes were great. Overall, I really loved The Purge's appearances here this year, and whether you're a fan of The Purge or not, you'll enjoy it.
Overall, I had a wonderful experience this year! If you haven't gone yet, I'd suggest that you put Halloween: Hell Comes to Haddonfield, Freddy vs. Jason, Krampus, and American Horror Story at the top of your to-do list, and enjoy! This year's a great one!
