Please forgive me. I didn't mean icon as in the traditional sense like in Orlando. I meant more that simply this character and background story is entirely original and being debuted at this venue.

As far as Murdy. If the character and background story is well received, I don't think Murdy will have a choice. Universal will push for the icon next year (once again, only if successful). He only gets his funding with the money men upstaris signing off.

If you now search for "Halloween Horror Nights Terror Tram 2016" on google, it now displays the mobile site which hides what was accidentally revealed before. Nice work covering that up uni. haha

If I get the Frequent Fear Pass, can I upgrade one of the nights to a Front of Line or do I have to purchase a completely separate FoL ticket?

Unfortunately a ticket and FOL pass are all in one. There's no way to buy em separately

Hi All,

Very close to buying tickets in bulk for one night this year! Just a quick questions for all of you regulars based on previous years!

We usually do the first Sunday in September, but I see that isn’t available this year. Based on prior experience with crowds, would it make more sense to go the first Saturday (9/17) or the first Sunday (10/2). I have a group of 16 going so we are trying to go on a less crowded days so it isn’t a nightmare (pun intended) trying to stay together! We were able to get through all the houses and rides last year by 2am (got there at early entry) on that first Sunday so I’m hoping we can make that a reality again!

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

NYG

I went to the first Saturday of last year with Front of the Line and got there at 4pm and did early entry. I got done with everything around 11pm. So I recommend the first Saturday (9/17).

Cool, but we will not have FoL. Will that make this difficult?

Probably should do Early Entry so you get in faster. And wait whatever maze that is going to be big and (is available with early entry) get in line for it. So like 2015 I got in line for "The Walking Dead" instead of "Insidious", and "This is the end". Why? Because "The Walking Dead" is a massive horror property that is going to get packed. There's a good chance that "The Exorcist" and "Halloween Hell Comes To Haddonfield" (possibly also "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Blood Brothers") will be available for early entry. I would get in line for "The Exorcist" because it is a bigger property that is probably going to a bigger crowd going to line up for it because more people recognize it.

For me all of this is amazing, and I know its the same for many of you. But some of you very active members seem to be hell bent on being overly negative. Guys, 25 years ago halloween was just for kids. Now, thanks to the haunted house industry, and a huge part of that is Universal, we get to enjoy it as adults in a very real way. We get to jump inside of horror movies and experience them in all of our own personal nightmares yet you guys seem to just want to find the negatives.

But on to the point. This whole business about the terror tram is what has pushed me to my limit with some of you guys. They created an original story, and are attempting to create an icon character for Hollywood in a clown character. I know the guy, I've seen the character, I think its interesting. The story isn't earth shattering gonna change your life but that kind of story happens once every 20 years. What more do you want? Oh we want more of the same. Oh no, we want something different. Oh no we want original ideas, oh they should use established IPs. Oh no why do they keep using the same story. Can't you guys get back to the point where this is all pure enjoyment? Can't you find the great atmosphere we will all be experiencing in just a hand full of weeks? We get to encounter monsters of icon, and monsters of new. We get to travel into the darkest parts of our minds to explore our deepest fears. Let that be the litmus test for what you say next. Would I enjoy this if I was (insert age of your first or favorite scare experience)?

There will always be ways to do things or ideas better. But don't ruin your own experience by going into it with a mindset of hating it before you even walk thru the door. We all want to have fun so lets do that. Keep up the great updates, you guys are awesome. Even you negative nellys.

I think you bring up some very interesting and important questions as to what the fans want and why people even attend the event.

Obviously for you, you go because Halloween as a whole is a passion of yours. And you are so right that Universal has done a great job in making Halloween fun for adults again. It's something that we all kind of take for granted, even though we should be totally excited about it.

That being said, I can tell you that I've been only going to the event for the past three years. In no way would I consider myself a superfan of the event, but I really enjoy going every year. It usually ends up being the highlight of my Halloween season. But the reason I even started going to this event was because of the IP's. Three years ago, I was an avid watcher of the Walking Dead and it being featured at the event really drew me in.

Above all, I would say that I am a fan of movies and television as a whole. The opportunity to be able to walk through and be scared by the worlds of some of my favorite movies and TV is really exciting to me. So, obviously I'm going to be up in arms when an original idea is done instead of doing one of my favorite properties (Terror Tram invaded by Mad Max: Fury Road anyone?).

I used to be an annual Knott's Scary Farm goer, but ultimately I never felt like I was anywhere other than Knott's Scary Farm and so I stopped going, thinking that all of the Haunt events must be the same.

But Universal proved me wrong, with even the original mazes (I'm looking at you El Cucuy) scaring the poop out of me and making me feel like I was in a world other than my own.

My issue with the Terror Tram in general is not really the property itself (which I will admit I was pretty quick to judge) but the attraction itself. Like I mentioned, I have only been going for three years, but I have gone on the Terror Tram every year and found it underwhelming. For me, I feel no sense of immersion in these areas, especially since there are few scareactors on the trail. I feel like I am walking in a Hollywood hill, being scared by actors, not in the world of the Walking Dead or the Purge. I think anything and everything should be done to make it feel immersive if they can (maybe making the route tighter for more claustrophobia or adding more actors), but I don't think there are many themes that can make me feel different about it.

Of course I would love to have a personal favorite property being featured there. And it would maybe even make me like it better. But for the masses, I think something has got to be done to the attraction itself and not the theme.

If nothing can be done, than I am all in favor of shutting it down and using those resources on the other mazes and scare zones.

But then again, I have no memory of the Terror Tram in its glory days. I don't know how great it can be.

So maybe that's just me.

It was like that for many years. But Knott's has really come into their own the past 2-3 years. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't been in a few years.

I definitely agree. I loved both events last year but Paranormal Inc. was house of the year for me between the two.

That's awesome. I always hope for things to get better. I went in 2014 with a scaredy cat so we really didn't do much lol. I love how sometimes people avoid the monsters when they go. You paid good money to get into the park and then they chicken out!

I used to have incentive to go as a starving student, but now since I'm a USH pass holder, HHN is actually cheaper lol. Even if it's a 2 hour drive compared to Knott's 15 minutes...

I find it interesting that in talking about the terror tram and wanting it to be IP heavy instead of original, no one brings up the year that we had Freddy, Jason and Leatherface not only in mazes but on the terror tram. I'm sorry I can't recall what year that was but right after that they started doing nothing but Walking Dead up until this year. The terror tram was really great that year. You got off and walk through Bates Motel, then you started going up the hill into the woods and that was the Friday the 13th area with tents set up and campers running about getting killed and Jason stalking people Etc. Then you moved into Texas Chainsaw Massacre and had a little mini scene with a Chop Top torturing some people and then actually a mini maze right next to the psycho house for Texas Chainsaw that led into WOTW. In wotw it was The Nightmare on Elm Street area and you had various versions of Freddy walking around, the dream sequences including the children playing jump rope, Freddy being visible in the houses etc. Maybe I'm just old, but I remember quite a few times the terror tram was utilized like that.  Instead of being scary the terror tram ended up turning into like a photoshoot and the majority of it was blackouts having to shine a flashlight at people saying not to take pictures and keep moving. Because everything was so recognizable guests instantly wanted to interact and take pictures of and with things which not only really held the lines up but ruined the experience for everyone around them. Only in the last few years has there started being a separate line take your picture in front of the psycho house  for that same exact reason, it was just holding everything up and making the whole Terror tram walkway one giant slow-moving line. And they do still take the regular guests on the back Lot Tram through there during the day so they can't have it done up that elaborately, they have to rely on their talent more than set dressing . I guess I'm the Rarity I actually like it more when it's an unknown IP because then you don't necessarily know what you are going to get and it's not so obvious when people have to go on breaks. There aren't big holes left in scenes until these people come back and there's more freedom for them to move around and change with the crowd. But when you have these known IPs you have to almost have multiple mini sets built for the characters to be behind and doing their own little vignettes so the guests arent trying to interact with them. and then you're just walking through watching a show...

Just my opinion :)

How is it cheaper? On a cheap night knotts is $60 total for entry and parking. you can't get in that cheap with parking any night to universal even as a passholder. Unless you have the mega playinum pass that includes a hhn ticket and parking

You make a good point. To you, when famous characters are in mazes, it takes you out of it as if you are watching the movie, while the unknown killer stalking you makes it feel much more real.

I can't say I feel this way, but that is super interesting. I guess it's just the lover of movies in me that makes me fear the known characters, much like how I am scared of the source material.

To me, when I have seen what a character is capable of, it makes me much more afraid of them when I see them. I kind of feel like Laurie in Halloween 2 where I know what Michael has done to others and now I fear for myself.

A random Purger for instance doesn't relate to me because I don't know who he is. He might make me jump because of fright, but I'm not scared as he looks at me and starts running toward me (like I am with Michael Myers).

But something that has got to be mentioned is when doing IP's, it is important for a maze to feel like the movie and also that the guests are being threatened all at the same time. It is a difficult balance for sure. I love seeing a giant American werewolf prop up close, it makes me feel like I'm in the movie. But at the same time, it's gotta scare me too. That's why I'm there.

Sorry about my long philosophical Horror Nights posts. I'm just really interested in why people go to the event and what scares them. It's fascinating.

Yeah you're right. It's $55, but since I stay at a hotel the night of (I hate late night driving), I don't pay anything for parking. So I pay less for the event itself, but more overall because of the hotel...

I think what's being generalized about the Terror Tram is; You can put a fresh coat of paint on an old, worn-out, dilapidated house, but that won't increase its value, because it hasn't gotten the love it really needs to stand out.

I've been fortunate enough to go to every HHN since '07 (and I'm not even a SoCal resident), and every year I just happen to bring with me someone who's never gone, thanks to my constant praise of it every year. And while the terror tram is the same, drab experience for me, and while I know the path and every part of what to expect, those newbies I bring don't, and that's what I truly get enjoyment out of. That's what Universal is banking on every year, the new consumer to HHN. The backlot is the bread and butter of uniqueness for Uni, and for that very reason, I don't think any part of the TT will ever really change. And I'm ok with that, because the entire experience and package HHN puts together makes the night something to always look forward to. I think we can all agree with that.

Quick question, everyone.

I noticed on the Annual Passholder page, they heavily advertise that we can save up to $35 on select nights. It also says on peak days that we can save as little as $6. However, if you buy online, you save $30, bringing it down from $89 to $59.

So my question is, is the $35 off of the base price of $89 or the online price of $59? I've done this other years but doesn't have good recollection...
