I saw Heart Eyes today. I was not a fan. The two leads (Olivia Holt, Mason Gooding) were cute and I especially liked Olivia. The kills were decent. But besides that, the script in this movie was BAD. It feels like a hallmark movie version of Scream. The direction was very basic and generic, nothing new here that hasn't already been done in other slasher films a 1000000000+ times already. Despite all this, for awhile the movie sorta (barely) had me, but that last act. Oh boy. It's terrible. The "twist" is so forced and was cringe worthy. It's not even enjoyable in a "so bad it's good" way it's just plain ol terrible. I was a bit shocked this even got a theatrical release while watching it. I've seen better slasher movies that went direct to streaming... ugh. I really wanted to like this movie. It's not the worst horror slasher I've seen but it certainly isn't good imo. If you're really in the mood for a slasher movie just watch (or rewatch) any of the Scream movies or Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving was WAYYYYYYY better than this and had a similar concept of a holiday themed killer. It's a shame really because I like this director. His movie Werewolves Within (2021) was really fun and enjoyable. I had a great time with that movie which is why I was excited for this. So yeah, if you're wanting to see this movie don't pay for it lol. Either wait for it to hit streaming (betting this will be on Netflix by April-May) or use a free ticket. It's not good. Sorry @HHN Maddux lmao. I hope you enjoy it still I know you've been excited for this!

I watched scream 6. I didn't really like it. the new characters were kinda terrible. the reveal was kinda cheesy . it was kinda boring. the new York aspect was kinda wasted. ( the main plot was interesting, the main idea behind it was pretty interesting, but the movie wasn't that entertaining)

I think the main reason I liked this movie so much at the time was because the first time I watched was in 4DX, and it was a wild ride between the blood splatters and feeling the stabs on my back lol. I like 6 a lot for bring so many new things into the franchise (seeing two ghostfaces on screen at the same time with that synchronized blade wipe is such a GREAT visual), but 5 is definitely the better of the two.

the plot underneath could have been really really good, I was invested at the beginning. it was really interesting to see what happened at the beginning to the guy .... I was loving that. but the main cast is kind of annoying. and it felt like they wasted so much time on drama.
the ending could have been great but their delivery of it was cheesy.

So, just got back from this, and... I respectfully disasgree.

I thought that was an absolute blast from beginning-to-end, an extremely bloody slasher with great kills, two main leads with great chemistry and characters that while at first seem easy to dislike, you genuinely start to care about them as the movie goes on and they open up and become more vulnerable with each other.

Amazing killer design with an instantly iconic mask and FANTASTIC outfit, plus the first time in quite a while that the killer (to me at least) had a genuinely intimidating presence. My only real complaint about the movie is that the killer reveal felt underwhelming, although I suppose for at least two of them it's meant to be. I think I would've liked it more if they had an actual motive besides 'we love killing', but oh well.

Also the movie is surprisingly really funny, lots of good laugh-out-loud moments, largely thanks to Mason Gooding's comedic timing and line deliveries. Try to see this with a good audience if you can.

All in all, very much enjoyed it, would be very happy to see a sequel happen (would also be happy to see this as a house. Unlike Thanksgiving, every scene with HEK is a full set piece, and each one I was literally envisioning a walkthrough house scene).

If I may ask, what didn't you like about the twist? Like I said, my main complaint about the movie is the fact that the killer's really don't have any motive besides 'oh we love killing!' (which always feels like a copout), but I did love the subversion of it being a couple rather than what literally EVERYONE was expecting (generic angry incel). Unless the motive is what you were talking about, in which case yeah that part was the only thing I genuinely considered 'bad'.

I just didn't like it. The execution (no pun intended) I thought was terrible and it felt forced. We didn't need a "killer reveal" in this movie. Not everything has to be Scream. Just because something is "subversive" doesn't make it good or well written. They could've done this concept a lot better

Heart Eyes absolutely rips in the best ways imaginable. Enters the rarefied air of horror rom-com that Shaun of the Dead invented and it has a lot of fun playing in both genres. Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding are terrific as both sappy, roller coaster romantic partners as well as a slasher film final couple. The laughs hit, the titular slasher villain is brought to life with such love and mythos (soon as I heard those stomping, stamping footsteps when he first appeared I just knew I was in good hands), the kills are both brutal and fresh and it does a masterful job of embracing a rom-com angle with just the right amount of (ripped out) heart. Horror Comedies will always be my favorite genre of film because when they are executed by real masters like Sam Raimi, Peter Jackson, Jordan Peele, etc. there is nothing better, IMO. With Heart Eyes, Josh Ruben demonstrates that he's got the skills to play ball with the best of them.

THIS! The moment those footsteps start, immediately got the feeling we were in for a treat. It gives the killer an immediate intimidating and powerful presence that a lot of slashers nowadays lack.

Josh Ruben has said that one of the main inspirations for Heart Eyes was Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives and I think he nailed it. Fun and energetic, frightening but never mean spirited. I could feel the Jason aura in HEK the second we saw him.

Bidders Circling Hot Radio Silence & Paul Giamatti Package About Paranormal DJ Art Bell – The Dish

Amazon and Warner Bros have put bid for a Radio Silence biopic about the late paranormal DJ Art Bell that would star Paul Giamatti.
deadline.com deadline.com

Wasn't sure if I should put this here or in the general thread, but hell, it makes sense here.

Radio Silence is doing a biopic about famous radio host Art Bell, who popularized stories about aliens, cryptids, the supernatural, and conspiracies on his long-running "Coast to Coast" program. Paul Giamatti stars.
