Disney will see Inside out 2 as something telling them audiences want more sequels
this will lead at least for the next few years to them pushing for more sequels which seemed to be the plan already but this will just mean the next 10 years we will see wayyyyy less new idea's from Disney and just sequels. Like how for 10 years of live action remakes because a few made bank
Audiences do want sequels though, mainly because they're safe and proven. And it's not just Disney who follows the money. DreamWorks has Bad Guys 2, Gabby's Dollhouse, and Shrek 5 all slated for release along with a How to Train Your Dragon remake. When The Wild Robot inevitably underperforms, the execs are going to look at that, compare it to how Kung Fu Panda 4 did, and make similar decisions.
People can say they want new and original stories all they want, but until they start going back out to financially support them, this is what we're stuck with.
