The fact that they are hand sculpting the rock work tells me that there isn't going to be a lot of rock work.

I would love there to be a rock work equivalent to Big Thunder and it would look great but I don’t see how an excessive amount of rock work would lend itself to a JP theme.

Camp Jurassic and the splash down to River Adventure is absolutely covered in rockwork theming.

I'm not saying no to rock work but there should be more than just that.

Lots of concrete and beefy electric fences too of course. Wouldn’t be a Jurassic attraction without white concrete.

I don’t understand what you are saying... kong and hogsmeade were hand sculpted concrete. If you are referring to the prefabbed rebar/mesh work some of it can be seen in that picture although most of it has not been put in place yet. These are so small that I doubt they will use gunite or shotcrete for a base.

Right, but since then they have been using the prefab technique like in Beijing and Volcano Bay. Hand sculpted is probably the wrong term since all the final "rock" is hand sculpted. Hand formed would probably be a more accurate description. Since the are forming the "chicken wire" by hand instead of using computer bent rebar.

Pardon my ignorance but how can you tell it's field sculpted rebar vs prebent rebar?

As @Teebin pointed out, they are using both techniques. In the pic, what is circled in red is hand formed. The blue is computer bent grid that has the "chicken wire" attached.

And as a side note, are sure this is Nassal? It doesn't look like Nassal's work to me.

Theres a pile of the mesh sheets on site. They look like they have some contouring to them. Not sure if that makes them the final form or if they are just generic and fold them to fit.

Have you been on any trips to Nassal warehouse recently?

Yes, and there was nothing to be seen. But the main reason I ask is because for rock work Nassal likes regular bent rebar and a yellowish cloth covering. These "chips" look like bent galvanised aluminum wire with a thin wire mesh over it. Basically the same technique, but different materials.

Nassal has been using the rebar with catching backer fabric on recent projects with no mesh. This appears to be formed razor wire mesh. Perhaps they, whoever this is, is using this technique for more detailed and intricate requirements of the design.

First, I misread the size of this work... it is much larger than I first thought but the crane tires brought me in sync. They actually might bring in sprayed concrete for this for the base coat. Edit: On the other hand, they might be wary of using shotcrete so close to the track and supports.

Would the inclusion of water nearby affect the type of internal construction and materials with the rockwork? This whole area might have a basin for a waterfall after all.

Nassal used the other technique on Krakatau, which has a lot of water. So my guess is it's just a different company.

There’s going to be plenty on show that can be seen over the construction walls already.

I’m curious to see what the final walls will be. I don’t see them lining the paths with trees like the rest of the land. A wire fence like seen in the movies would provide a great visual.

There used to be a service entrance on the lower south side of the Discovery Center. Is it still there or did they fill it in and seal it up? I used to sneak over there out of sight to have a cig and enjoy the jungle and quiet.

After going back and doing some searching, it seems like the rockwork ($6.5 million worth of it) is being done by a company called Cockram Scenario

Fences would be great, but I really (really) hope that's accompanied by as much foliage as they can conceivably cram in there without interfering with the track.

I would prefer not to see industrial-looking structures and similar areas from the main path, and -- at least based on current aerials -- it seems that's exactly what we'd see from the main path if the only buffer is fencing. Coaster track peeking out periodically I get and am expecting (Universal's going to want guests to know it's in there), but at least some attempt at restoring a semblance of the tropical jungle vibe would be, by me, appreciated.
