Competition always matters. Especially during the school year when kids only have so much time to go to the movies.

Not saying Kong couldn't have made money there, but when you're going up against Marvel for the same demographic, you're going to lose now a days. And you don't want to start your new franchise against the reigning king

I was speaking of hindsight. Original Star Wars, Jaws, JP, Indiana Jones, ET, and yes, Titanic and Avatar. The competition didn't matter, at, all.

ESPECIALLY, Titanic and Avatar.

There's plenty of great movies that don't make that much money though (and plenty of crap movies that make a ton of money). That was his point. The studio doesn't want it to get lost in the shuffle.

I completely agree. Schindler's List, Forrest Gump, and The Iron Lady will never make great theme park attractions. Only big budget films of fantastical design and idea will.

Very very smart move, although the movie might be good dr strange and potter would make it a giant bomb. March is perfect because there isn't any real competition AND a couple months to really hype it up. Good move, can't wait

No doubt the move was made to set it up in a better slot to make money. That is what studios are in the business for afterall. Even if Skull Island is an incredible movie, if it's going up against Marvel and Potter it will lose viewers and $$$ to them. As far as I know, there is nothing major around that time slot until two months later when GOTG2 hits theaters. Having extra time to perfect the movie won't hurt either.

But the weird thing is now instead its going up against Disney Animation Studios, Marvel, and Potter as they replaced that date with this new untitled Great Wall film according to Legendary's twitter.

I think Kong would be stronger than an untitled unhyped Great Wall film but thats just me.

If the Great Wall film has a lower budget, then you're wrong. Big Budget movies demand big returns. If those returns are diminished due to other big budget movies out at the same time, then the change is worth it.

IMDb has The Great Wall's budget at 135 million, pretty large. It also has 2 different Skull Island movies listed. One is the just titled SKULL ISLAND, starring Tom Hiddleston and the other is called SKULL ISLAND: BLOOD OF THE KING with the following description. "25 year after King Kong's death in New York, Carl Denham's son runs an expedition to Skull Island and tries to to solve the decade long mystery." The Blood of the King movie lists Legendary pictures as the production company. Perhaps those 2 SKULL ISLAND titles are the same movie, and maybe the delay had nothing to do with timing but instead a case of creative differences over the direction of the story?

IMDB is a less accurate Wikipedia. I wouldn't trust anything you see on there. That second Skull island film is not the Universal/Legendary one.

Wow, it's one thing to look at google maps, but watching that video gives the property life. Breathtaking.

P.S.: CBBR is HUUUGGGEE

P.P.S.: I still wish the waterpark went on the Sapphire Falls plot.

I am just glad to see that my eyes and all the lenses did not deceive me. The dark ride portions of Kong have been truncated to a degree, and it is set back precisely as far as I thought it was. I am sure it is all good as it also has major exterior ride parts that are heavily themed. Not sure what they are doing with them, but it should be big and wondrous. We all like that, right?

Thanks for sharing Teebin. Not only a great oversite of things to come but also brought back happy memories of when I did the same route to take in Diagon with Waddles, really is a fun thing to do and one that will live with me for along time.

Maybe it's my eyes, but from the pictures I've seen compared to the layout I've seen, I can't see a discernible difference in the constructed building. If there's any change, it doesn't seem to be significant.

Gray is what was apparent in earlier plans that I saw. Green is what they have built. I discern what I would call a big difference. Perhaps others would call the difference minor.

I was looking at the still photos of the helicopter videos (Jake's) and it appears that section of the building juts out as far as possible since the restaurant is so close. The configuration from aerial looks closer to the gray than the green, unless I'm looking at the wrong thing.

Those are the photos I'm referring to. Some great shots of Kong, Wondersea? and both parks.
