Middle Earth coming to UOR?

Hey folks, over on WDW News Today, a rumor has been published today that Warner Brothers is signing the rights to the LOTR movie trilogy to Disney, to create attractions at DHS. This sounds really off the mark, but I thought it was worth pointing it out...has anyone heard anything even remotely like this?

Yeah I just heard the same thing...so Star Wars and LOTR in the same park...Might they rename it Disney Hollywood Adventures

Having Star Wars and Lord of the Rings would be HUGE for DHS. I'll believe it when I see it though.

They don't appear to be chiming in on the subject over at pixie dust central. And there there is a busy thread on the subject.

What is really funny is how many people seemed sad that Universal might not have gotten the IP, and Disney may have.

Maybe they can have TDL design the area first and in true WDW fashion they can piggy back on it cheaper!

Perhaps with the aim of getting Disney fans (who otherwise might dismiss anything that exists beyond the realm of Pixie Dust) to get excited about the prospect of a Lord of the Rings theme park land. That way, down the line, when it is ultimately announced that Universal and not Disney is building it, they will be more excited by the idea.

Disney released the first concept art for Avatarland just now.
There's a reason Universal might have leaked a false rumour about LOTR/Disney. Get people excited about the 'more compelling' franchise (LOTR), so that the less compelling one (Avatar) is greeted with a shrug.

Nothing I've found point to anything changing recently. A friend got in touch with Glendale and they know nothing either.

Not concrete proof, but I know nothing more.

HTF tweeted and made a Uni/LOTR reference....I wonder what he knows that we dont....

I really dislike LOTR. In fact, I like it less than Avatar and I don't want to see a LOTR land. However, I think a LOTR land would be successful and I want to see Universal stay successful. And I think there could be some cool attractions/experiences with this land so I'm all onboard.

Last night, HTF asked what the Disney insiders had to say about the Disney/LOTR rumor that surfaced. Soon after his Kong post, one of them (Lee) stated over on the WDWMagic forum that he'd heard no indication of it. There has been no comment on the subject from Spirit, another known insider. It's beginning to look like a debunked rumor, which probably means that the Toon Lagoon LOTR transformation is the more likely one.

This is just a guess on my part -I have no insider knowledge whatsoever. So perhaps HTF will comment on this with far more authority and information.

Here's his comment: "Speaking of clueless, is Scarlett's manchild 'moron' (her word, not mine) boyfriend really tellin the world that Disney is close to a deal for LoTR rights? What is it with these people?"
