I believe they each know what the other is doing and care a great amount.. they specially care about whose going to put out the best product no matter the property being used. The quality of the experience will earn you repeated visits. Something that leaves you wanting more wont encourage a second visit. It obviously doesn't apply to many of us on this forum i think this is more for the general audience/ gaming audience that may not be too thrilled or familiar with theme parks.

If they cared or let's say if Disney cared they would have take HP more seriously. Heck they would have taken the last 6 years since HP opened more seriously. They also both know that new additions help tourism in Orlando in general. Why do you think Disney attendance didn't drop, but went up the year HP was released.

I am 40 and I love Nintendo. I don't understand the comment that its only for 20 somethings and teens. A lot of kids from the 80's grew up on this stuff.

Millenials, who are mostly in their 30's now are the Super Nintendo generation.

Also Nintendo's "casual" games are beloved by female players. Of the younger demographics females tend to have more access to disposable income.

I'm 36 and grew up with the original NES, bought one when I was 11, together with Double Dragon.

^ I think you said that Diagon, once finished, rattled imagineering's cage and in turn got them more money for Avatar. Too, I recall you telling us that the announcement of Cabana Bay gave WDW management pause.

Am I recalling correctly?

I love Star Wars. But I'm really more excited for Nintendo because I grew up playing NES and Super NES.

The Avatar thing is daytime drama worthy. It starts with Potter, runs through Cars Land and Avatar and into Star Wars Land.

And yes. Cabana Bay was an shot across the bow that's message was heard loud and clear. And the moves since then (Sapphire Falls, buying WnW land, Volcano Bay, Nintendo, buying enough land for a 3rd gate/hotel complex) have a lot to do with WDW's more aggressive expansion plans they are working on.

My original comment wasn't meant that Disney didn't care at all. It is more an announcement is not going to change anything or be something Disney doesn't care about. They already know Nintendo us coming.

I think Disney cares as they were vying for Nintendo character usage in film and TV but now they can't use them in the parks and Universal would be profiting again just like they could potentially do with Marvel.

Yeah, the foibles on the project must be a roll the eye joke. I know of one that was a doosy of ineptitude and wasting money. UC doesn't appear to put up with that malarkey at all.

While Nintendo is big, it is no Star Wars or HP, so I don't expect day 1 madness of that either.

I have to disagree. While many females like Star Wars, more men are into it. Same with Nintendo but Nintendo has the ability to reach out to many demographics, toddlers, children, teens, and adults. They have princesses! If done right, this can be bigger than Harry Potter.

I think you sell star wars short. My 5 year old daughter loves star wars and not because of us. She picked up a book on her own and asked for her birthday. After we read the book together she wanted to watch the movies. She loves it and after watching the movie once points the characters out and know their names. Her friend who is also a girl wants a star wars party for her 5th birthday. At this age none of them are playing video games, but they love star wars. Also, all my friends who are girls watch star wars, I was the odd one out who had never seen the movies. I heard it all the time from males and females that they couldn't believe I had never seen them. My mom loves star wars too. So it hits every generation and all genders.

Nintendo while I love it (more than star wars) it doesn't seem to hit as many generations (baby boomer one example and toddlers) and I don't think even within those generations hit both genders as well. I worked in a gaming store in the 90s and the reason I had top sales with less hours was because I was a female. Very few female customers came in except mom's looking for games for their kids. I will admit I took advantage of that to sell more games to all the guys.

Nintendo is huge. I don't think Nintendo will have a problem appealing to anyone. Harry Potter is a relatively new franchise and appeals to all generations. Nintendo, Harry Potter, and Star Wars are pretty much at the top of their field (gaming, literature, and film) when it comes to popularity.

If people waited in line all day just to buy something from a store, can you imagine how many people would come to experience actual rides?

It makes sense that they are each responding to each other. Uni have the advantage that Comcast can just dump a truck of cash as a one off lump to buy the land.

The only thing Avatar and Toy Story will do is add something else for the people who already planned to waste their money there. Nintendo will bring more people than both combined. SW will be on Harry Potter level while Nintendo won't . However Mario Kart was huge before smart phones took over. If it's one of the games that's being developed for apps than it will help Universal more.

I think people are underestimating what this will do. It may not be a mad rush like Star Wars but a never ending flow of people over and over for years to come. Star Wars has good years and bad years as its based off a film I mean do you think if Disney announced it was making Jar Jar Binks centered expansion or a prequel based expansion people would storm the place to attend. No. Nintendo is based off video games with new franchises/expansions/sequels coming out every year which means the area could easily be refreshed the moment a hot new game comes out or if a game gains popularity bam easier to add in and with a long line up Nintendo has more IPs geared for different ages. It has princesses, cars, action, fighting, adventure, singing, animals, etc.

TSL will get families with younger kids to attend DHS. Prior to Frozen being a special thing there, many families skipped DHS with smaller kids as they felt there was nothing there for their kids. TSL will squash that and now families may add a day for DHS if they know it has stuff for families. I don't see it changing the attendance numbers a ton as it won't make families plan a vacation for TSL.

Avatar will change things. It will bring in people who wouldn't go to AK and it will have some families who skip AK or do a half day at AK change their patterns. Between Avatar and the things added to AK this year, it will make AK a full day park, which before it was a half day park that had closing hours to reflect that. Also, I do think some families will plan a vacation to see Avatar. I think AK attendance will go up a good bit between April and the end of next year.

I think Nintendo will be HUGE for universal. All I stated was that it was a tier below HP and Star Wars. HP and Star Wars are IPs on their own island with their fan base and the size of said fan base. But don't get me wrong, Nintendo will increase attendance and people will plan vacations for Nintendo.

I still think DAK will be a half day park. Only it will now be the second half of the day into the night.
