I had such a good time with this one. Neve Campbell was incredible in this and showing her as a mom now was such a great direction to take the story. Of course, it's not perfect... we know. The logic police needed to take another pass or 2 at the script. And sure, worst Ghostface reveal yet. But the parts that felt like Scream felt like a real homecoming for the franchise. Can't wait to see it again.

One thing that remains common: Ive heard from both the lovers and haters of the film that the reveal/killers are the worst.

I saw this only because I was invited by my dad with free tickets, and even aside from the horrible treatment of Melissa, this sucked.

Worst Ghostface period, and a lot of the movie didn't even really feel like Scream IMO, more like a generic slasher. Add on top of that a not great script with lots of dumb character decisions and leaps in logic, a mostly cannon fodder cast you don't care about when they start getting killed off, and did I mention the Ghostface reveal being awful?

What happened to my favorite horror franchise...

This is not an invitation for spoilers, but I can't possibly imagine a worse reveal than SCREAM 3's, which is one of the most braindead, creatively-bankrupt, backstory-shattering unmaskings in slasher (I'd go so far as to say whodunnit) history.

I guess I'll see for myself tomorrow!

I think had people liked the ending better, it would've gotten a lot more love. However, the Ghostface reveals have been the least interesting parts of each movie for the past I don't know how many sequels. It's just a means to an end at this point and the real reason it feels like a stretch to keep these movies going, as much as I do enjoy them.

But this ending gave off script leaked 3x so here's the best we could do and that's somehow the best they could come up with. :lmao:

As someone who's never really been a huge Scream franchise fan, I thought Scream 7 was a fine time at the theater. Not the best in the franchise, not the worst and would likely fall in the middle of the pack with regards to my overall franchise ranking. On the bright side, the kills are some of the best in the franchise, are exceptionally brutal at times and a few set pieces are, simply put, just beautiful cinema. The cast does a really great job with Neve Campbell and Isabel May really shining as a mother-daughter duo while the 'teen' cast all do a pretty great job even if they don't reach the iconic archetypes of the original film. The horror action can be quite tense at times and the score, while not amazing, was good at complimenting the visual slaughter.

On the negative, there's no way to say this isn't the worst killer(s) and motive(s) etched in franchise lore. It's a really, really weak and flimsy reason to back up the carnage and it's a real shame because if this film had a better Ghostface it would likely be one of the strongest entries in the series. I don't know where the blame should be put with regards to the messy pre-production but this felt like a true nothing burger of a reveal. Seeing as the motive behind Ghostface is intrinsically tied to the idea of the franchise and the characters this film takes a bigger hit than it would if it was a one off slasher film.

Given that Scream 8 is an undeniable inevitability (just saw those weekend numbers and oh baby we're gonna be seeing Ghostface chasing Sidney while she's in a wheelchair), if they maintain the level of visceral slaying but have a concrete, better thought out plan for the why and how of it all, it could turn out to be one hell of a film. Only problem I have is that this franchise will still be tied at the hip to Neve and I'd like to see a new story but alas, what sells sells.
