Universal Studios Hollywood Goes Full Throttle with National Commercial Launching Much-Anticipated Summer 2015 Arrival of the Action-Packed Thrill Ride, “Fast & Furious—Supercharged,” During NBC’s Super Bowl Pre-Game Coverage

Universal City, California, January 30, 2015 – Universal Studios Hollywood shifts into high gear with the debut of an innovative, national 30-second commercial for its summer 2015 launch of the “Fast & Furious—Supercharged” thrill ride during NBC’s Super Bowl Pre-Game coverage on Sunday, February 1, 2015.The gripping spot will jump-start Universal Studios Hollywood’s campaign for the eagerly-anticipated opening of “Fast & Furious—Supercharged,” a high-octane, adrenaline-fueled thrill ride and new grand finale to the world-famous Studio Tour.

“What better place is there than the Super Bowl to launch a campaign where millions of viewers huddle for non-stop, edge-of-your-seat suspense,” said Larry Kurzweil, President, Universal Studios Hollywood. “In just 30, thrilling seconds, our compelling spot resonates with the exhilaration this immersive thrill ride will deliver when it opens at Universal Studios Hollywood this summer.”

“Fast & Furious—Supercharged” will reunite stars from the Fast & Furious series in a groundbreaking mega-attraction, conceived as a new installment to the dynamic film franchise that can only be experienced at The Entertainment Capital of L.A. Featuring Vin Diesel (Dominic “Dom” Toretto), Michelle Rodriguez (Letty Ortiz), Dwayne Johnson (Luke Hobbs), Tyrese Gibson (Roman Pearce) and Luke Evans (Owen Shaw), “Fast & Furious—Supercharged” will catapult guests into the high-stakes underground world of fast cars in a harrowing escapade to save one of their own from an international crime cartel.

The dynamic hydraulic motion-based ride will tell an original Fast & Furious story that fuses sophisticated hyper-realistic special effects with a state-of-the-art 3D audio system and 3D-HD imagery, projected onto the world’s longest and most expansive 360-degree screen. Spanning nearly 400 feet in length to encircle Studio Tour guests within a newly constructed 65,000-square-foot structure on the legendary backlot, the sprawling custom-built screen will employ 34, 4K projectors and a sophisticated projection configuration system to fully envelope guests in unprecedented realism.

Coupled with an intense blend of thrilling visceral effects, “Fast & Furious—Supercharged” will take guests on a wild ride that begins the moment they board the Studio Tour. Exclusive interstitial content, filmed with the cast members, will be featured on the tram monitors highlighting interactions as they engage guests en route to the ride’s climatic scenes. Along the tram route and featured at the ride, sightings of numerous prop cars from the Fast & Furious series, including Dom’s iconic Dodge Charger, will enhance the story.

The adventure will culminate with spectacular action sequences that send guests careening through the streets of Los Angeles—at perceived speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour—aided by the elite team of unforgettable heroes.

I think so! The press release for the super bowl mentioned/pretty much hinted at that the story line of Supercharged will be incorporated into the whole tour or be mentioned on video. Maybe we'll see some F&F props along the route that help set up/support the story?

Lot's of new trees planted around Fast & Furious--Supercharged.  Remarkable how many projects in the park are starting to look close to finished.  Well, closer.

I would imagine those plane and bus wrecks will be placed on the large pedestals on either side of the F&F exit ramp, to show the "aftermath" of what happens inside the building. That would imply that the F&F picture cars would probably go in front of the entrance to the building, if not utilized in the first portion of the animation.

Guest relations, and actually the entirety of the park that has to deal with the guests probably have a fairly nasty gesture in mind to give to USH's marketing department right now.

I'm sure the attraction will be great but dear lord that is the most misleading piece of theme park advertising I've ever seen since the 2001 DCA opening special. (or maybe Mummy)

Most misleading commercial Universal has put. The one thing i'm kinda surprised/worried of is that I would of imagined they would announce the month the new tour addition would be. Maybe what's going on inside is more complicated than we thought?

Are you guys really surprised?

This is gonna be a similar fiasco to the whole "where is the King Kong ride?" crap everyone at the park had to deal with. It's ridiculously misleading, and while I love Universal with all my heart, I hope it slightly backfires so they feel the pain. I would've thought they would have learned from their Kong mistake.

Its.not.a.damn.RIDE.

It's not so much calling it a ride as it's advertising it to look like something totally different than the final product.

I don't even think Kong went that far.

Can I be honest folks? I don't see what's misleading about it. Technically, this is a "ride." It's just on the studio tour and not a separate thing. They don't say, "experience it on the studio tour" because this is aimed at people who don't have any idea what a studio tour is. Plus, it would not sound as exciting. Not saying that your opinions are wrong, I'm just looking at it from a marketing perspective.

I agree. If I wasn't an USH fan and saw it, I would've thought it's gonna be some fast paced action ride similar Radiator Springs Racers or something.

Kong did something similar but NOT as bad as this....

Would it have been THAT hard to create a clever commercial featuring one tram car like in the pictures and have it race down the same footage like in the released commercial? OR have it start out with that guy and girl and then last second show it's them in a full tram racing a long. They could've still called it a ride or whatever, but then at least you can tell it's part of the tour.

*sigh* Universal is gonna lose a lot of trust overtime because of this.

No, it's not "technically a ride"...no matter how you cut it. Technically it's an animation on the tour. I know THAT technical term isn't marketable, but you're forgetting one thing. You have to look at things from more than a marketing perspective. You have to then picture the guests AT the park trying to find that "ride" and being told it isnt.

It would've been so simple to simply feature a fast driving tram in the commercial and then have words or a voice over say "new attraction/ride on the world famous studio tour. Only at Universal Studios Hollywood."

It's not that difficult to make it more clear...

I can agree with your other argument Allen. Maybe Comcast was reaching the Superbowl deadline to fast....or maybe they are geniuses. Allow me to explain.

What could be more exciting than hearing about a new ride (especially on Superbowl Sunday)? It would get people's attention. Then maybe a month later they can have a trailer with a full on tram with the driver "racing" the tram. It would make it even more exciting for the teenage crowd. What appeals to kids my age are alot of teenagers in one area (the tram) and the older generation (the driver) "acting our age." It's perfect marketing.

Plus, this is just a teaser. There will be more coming up.

They aren't making a new commercial for this thing. This is it.Simply put the commercial is very clearly showing it as a more private roller coaster/simulator experience. Riding on four bulky trams with dozens of other people in a small space after a 45 minute long tour is nothing close to what this commercial is trying to convey.

It will bring people in the parks but even if the actual attraction is mind blowing at least half of the tourist crowd will be agitated, confused and bewildered.
