I think something I’ll miss with the Simpsons when it goes (on both coasts) is that it’ll be the one and only land/ride we ever got with the original voice cast (minus Shearer, obviously). Assuming Disney ultimately wants to do something with the IP at their parks, by the time they do, it could potentially be a decade from now at the rate they move, and by then it wouldn’t surprise me to have seen people like Kavner and Shearer follow Pamela Hayden into retirement from the show, especially since they’ve both been sounding much different for years already and the former would potentially be in her 80s and the latter in his 90s by the time Disney decides to move dirt.
Obviously recasts have happened in the show’s run, but we’re inching towards the day where Disney will have to replace one of the core cast members entirely, either due to death or retirement, if the show is to keep on going, and if they plan on building a ride/land beyond that of their own, it’ll have to incorporate those replacements (or, I shudder to think, AI). So for that long-winded explanation, I’m happy to cherish Simpsons while we’ve got it, with the cast captured in their prime, before it’s gone, because no matter what Disney does, it’ll never have that specific magic to it.
