That also seems to be the case in this photo.
I do not know what the source of this is, but I assume it's from the Harry Potter prop exhibition tour.

Regarding budget on WWOHP, I believe that the rumor is that WB/JK Rowling were in talks with Disney and Universal for the rights for Harry Potter. Speculation is that Disney only wanted to do a single Harry Potter ride instead of the full section treatment that Uni was willing to do.

So it can be assumed that the 256 million rumored to be what Uni is spending is much larger than what Disney was willing to spend for the one ride they were willing to build.

Well I guess seeing as the bars are under the stores in the films I can't complain about how they look or that I think they will be covered in snow. But there is still a safety concern I have about kids trying to crawl under there but heck I'm not legal for Universal so I'll let them worry about it.

I really think news or updates from now until soft will come in short waves like today with the food stuff than nothing until we see Ellen air than after that maybe the 3rd report from these sites. Because after next Sunday when The Apprentice airs if that 3rd report is already out it will be a REALLY slow few days/week whatever because something tells me that will be it until we hear about TM previews leading us right into softs.

Thanks to everyone who provided the info today. I definitely will have to buy a Hog's Head Brew at some point. (Especially since I will be spending each day at the park with 3 teenage boys. My 2 younger brothers & their friend. I might need a drink)

While it's impossible to hide the show building (in a reasonable fashion), I hope they add more trees to the right of the facade at the very least.

Disney would be kicking them selves now after what they could of had but were to cheap.

PS if anyone has a update from a theme park and would like it to be put onto theme park central please PM me.

re: Universal vs. Disney

I just hope Universal Creative can eventually rise to the level of artistic sophistocation that WDI achieved in the pic below:

For a minute there, I thought you were being sirius, Disneyhead! Haha. Don't get me wrong, Disney does amazing jobs at what they do, but Universal does sometimes even better jobs with less money. I'm kind of sold. :/

Ellen did not ride FJ. A VERY limited number of people have rider access.

Whilst the Three Broomsticks does sound good, we'll probably just go in there to take some photos. I make enough English food at home :pound: Good to hear at least Pumpkin Juice will be bottled (add that to the Duffs we'll be buying from US), although shame about Butterbeer.

I agree with the butterbeer not being bottled. According to the other post I read though it said they added the foam separately from the draft. I kind of look like it comparing to the beer Shocktop. It's only available in draft.

I think if butterbeer were bottled, it wouldn't be the same thing. I know that a lot of people are upset that the drink will only be available (at least for now) at IOA, but to me, that adds a very good reason to visit the park as much as possible. It also is another reason for newcomers to IOA to experience this great park.

But there are many people who can't afford to go, no matter how much of a reason they have :) e.g. we were hoping to bring some of our friends some back from our trip. I wouldn't have minded it not having much of a head in the bottle-version.

My bad... I guess I need to go to the store more often for beer. I remember being in one of the old beer classes and saying it was only available on draft because how it was made. Thanks for the info... Off to the store I go

According to a series of Jim Hill Media articles 3-7 years ago, Universal originally was going to (or did) approach JKR to bring the HP world to life in a stunt show, only to learn apparantly Disney had "wrapped up" the rights to the characters. That was apparantly in 2003 (when I was still an employee at IOA), and the Universal rights were awarded in 2007. The way the articles reflect the timeline, JKR was working with WDI quietly, but for quite a while and extensively. I honestly don't think she would have been working with Disney if all they were planning was a single ride, nor do I think Disney would have seriously considered locking up the licensing rights at the kind of $ it would have taken if they only planned a single ride out of it.

In the end, I believe Disney was planning either a "land" for HP, or a seperate theme park. According to Jim Hill, who has very reliable sources inside Disney and WDI in particular, the JKR/Disney deal died because of JKR's insistance on complete creative control, "particular ideas of what the experience would entail" (including entering through Diagon Alley and a train ride to Hogwarts) and the concern her "requests" would not yield a desirable ROI.

Universal ended up winning the rights, I believe, because they swooped in with a proposal where they might have been less grandiose in scope (because face it, while what they have done looks amazing, all we're talking about here is a few shops, a restaurants, facades and a new dark ride), but dedicated to faithfully recreating her world from the books and movies and ultimately giving her the final say over the entire project.

While I REALLY would have loved an entire park from either Disney or Universal devoted to everything Harry Potter, it's perfectly understandable why it didn't happen. Like IOA, most Orlando theme parks separate intellectual entities within their parks. So with a park ultimately devoted to the Harry Potter universe, they couldn't do what IOA is doing right now. Converting a section or show building to a newer, more popular franchise/idea is fiscally responsible and much less risky than a franchise becoming less and less popular with an entire park. Disney or Universal would be left with a park that they couldn't just change a section but the entire thing.
