Ellen surprised her audience today with a bonus day of 12 Days of Giveaways, and it turns out one of the prizes was admission to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter one month before the grand opening:

In other news, I guess that's a kinda semi-confirmed timeframe of when it'll possibly soft open!

It'll definitely be soft opened by then. My guess is it'll be an after park hours party of some sort.

...it'll be soft opened before that. Way before. The giveaway time will be slightly before AP previews.

Edit: responding to two posts above, sorry

That pole I've been wondering about finally got it's lights.  Seems like those would be too conspicuous to guests inside Hogsmeade.  Hmm.

I have no doubt that Universal Plaza will be home of the tremendous queue for timed ticket holders.  Somehow, I feel this will mean that it will be very difficult for HHN and Grinchmas to use this space in 2016.

Have Animal Actors go dark during Grinchmas and HHN use that stadium to hold people who are waiting for their return time.

Or move all new themed shows to that space and utilize Universal Plaza for waiting. :)

Animal Actors was redesigned to become a multipurpose venue, wasn't it? I'm not exactly sure how they could utilize that, but I'm sure they could put it to use somehow.

This sounds odd to me since the sensitive nature of the backstage area for Animal.  Its super small back stage and with all the cages, its not very friendly for other large properties.  I really hope we see the end of this show/theater in the next 5 years.

This is true, but then why did they redesign the theatre to look more generic and studio-esque in the first place? I could be wrong, just something to take into consideration.

I'm curious to see how much of a return time "waiting area" will be needed. It's a small sample size, but the one time I experienced using a return time pass at Islands of Adventure--in Oct. 2010--about 4 months after their WWoHP opened--there wasn't a huge crowd waiting to enter the land. I don't remember the exact times, but my return time was something like 3:30pm. This time was about 4 hours from when I picked up the pass, so I went off to do other things in the park. When I came to the entrance of the land--admittedly about 10-15 min. past the start of my return time (e.g. 3:45), there were about 10 people in front of us in the queue to turn in your pass to the team member, and we walked through very quickly. There may have been about another 20-25 other guests hanging around the general vicinity--presumably waiting for their return time to open up, but there was no long queue or anything like that.

Again, this is a small sample size and the two parks are drastically different. But in my one experience, it didn't look like IoA needed a large waiting area for guests waiting to enter WWoHP. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out here in Hollywood with a completely different park layout.

In addition to lights and speakers there are also fans in the Hogwarts queue.  Not the kind who pay to get in, the type with spinning blades that move air.

It was a theming thing. They wanted it to appear more cohesive.

I have a question about the return time system.... If you enter the land at your designated return time and decide to leave can you come back and experience other things?? Or you need to experience everything you want at once..?? Also this is a side note.. My best friend is not really into theme parks but her mother is some really important person at USH and she told me that they're opening the park early in February without telling anybody.. Does she mean soft openings or are they actually opening it to everyone secretly in February bc I remember when Ariel came out in DCA they had "softs" but it really wasn't a soft bc they opened about two to three weeks prior to official opening and stayed open..

She's talking about soft openings. Soft openings mean the land is opened to guests without any big promotion, it's pretty much technical rehearsals.

Some possible discouraging words from GACoasters at OU..

I am hearing that the team out at USH is not only not prepared for the opening of WW west, but not heeding the warnings of their East Coast counterparts about the things they need to do to prepare. Expect problems as big as or worse than the opening of the first WW though they should be able to learn from the past.

If this is indeed the case, and i'm not saying it is..it will be a true, genuine hell. Now keep in mind, this can all turn to a different scenario come April, but we'll have to wait and see. But once again, if it is true; it will be hell not just for the guests, but all the park faculty/staff.
