What kind of person takes a pocket knife to a theme park in the first place?

It is not that weird really, some people just always carry a pocket knife with them, especially swiss army type knives.

Where did this incident take place actually? HRRR or Hulk? And at which part of the track? In HRRR I'd think that the most likely place to lose something would be near the end when the coaster does that half twist over the queue entrance.

Exactly. I don't know why people think people are dumbasses for carrying a pocket knife. Especially older guests carry them. It's just something they do, sort of like when you go out, grab wallet, keys... they grab their swiss army knife as well. It's just second nature at this point to many people.

I've dealt with many people who carry these in the park, so it's not like it's an uncommon thing for them to be around the parks.

Yep, my dad carries a pocket knife at all times. If you think about it, it is probably the greatest safety tool-in-one a person could carry.

When I was 17 or so I often carried a pocket knife; I once went to a night club and had it confiscated because I have forgotten it was in my pocket.

im not going to lie. my key chain has a all in one pocket knife but i carry it because of all the accessories on it. I just know to take it off and leave it in the car when i go to certain places where it's banned. but it is easy to forget you have it though if its second nature. still not excusing this incident, and we all have to accept the consequences of our actions, but i like to look at both sides of the story.

Very safe, until it falls out of a ride and cuts someone. Sometimes you have to adjust what you carry around with you depending on where you're going. I struggle to see how a pocket knife is useful to carry around all the time, I just don't see the utility but I'm a young guy who lives in a place where most pocket knives are illegal, so that could be why. Seems the people who always carry are older and live in different states.

I wasn't justifying carrying it on a roller coaster, merely that I could see where someone could forget they had it and that it would ever be dangerous.

Since when are pocket knives illegal in NYC???

LOL! I just looked it up. The law is for pocket knives with a blade 4" or longer! The swiss army knife below has a 2 3/4" blade and is not illegal in NYC.

There is a difference between a pocket knife and a swiss army knife. I can see the utility, slightly, of a swiss army knife. A plain ol' pocket knife...nope, can't see it.

I am aware that 4"+ is illegal in NYC, as well as any blade with a spring open. Though, I don't think many people carry around pocket knives or swiss army knives where I live. My grandfather did, but he died in 1998. The people I know pretty much carry just their phone...and a MetroCard.

Mercy, you say the darnedest craziest things. You might want to tell Google images about the difference because, apparently, they don't know:

I'm going to agree with UniversalFreak, a pocket knife is not a Swiss Army knife but a Swiss Army knife is a type of pocket knife. Also, I don't understand anyone's train of logic that doesn't consider a pocket knife as something that should be stowed away. HRRR says that packs of smokes must be stored, if a softish item weighing very little must be stored, heavy bladed instruments should probably be stowed as well.

Bummer too, I always enjoyed riding the coasters of central Florida with my pockets loaded with these:

gave me a special thrill...

(and yes, I am joking, 100% joking)

Since 13 of the top 15 photos are pocket knives, I think they get it. A swiss army knife has a small pocket knife in it, but it's not the same as a single blade, exactly as Ad0niS8 said.

Pretty sure you agree with me, but you're busting my chops, which you usually do. I got you, Teebin, I got you :boxing::lol:

This is a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife:

This is a Buck brand pocket knife:

If you can explain the serious difference other than a plastic toothpick, I'd love to hear all about it.

^ When I heard this story about a pocket knife I pictured a weapon. I mean a 4" blade would be much easier to kill someone with, while a Swiss Army Knife is considered a tool.

But if we are talking about the smaller blades... I understand the need for nail clippers, a bottle opener, tweezers, and a few other things that happens include a dull as blade while staying at a resort. But I do not understand the need for a sharp Buck knife without those other features which could be useful.

When I'm walking under rock it
I'd rather not be hit by a knife from your pocket
it makes no difference whether the blade is sharp or dull
please don't let that thing go into my skull.

^ right. and we have no idea what "pocket knife" means in this case. It could have been a 7" deer skinning knife or it could have been a 2" cub scout starter knife. No one here will probably ever know what it amounted to.

^ Don't get me wrong. I don't want to be hit by any knife or anything else for that matter. I meant nail clippers and tweezers that happen to also have a dull as knife may be justifiable on property, not while riding a roller coaster. Someone said the knife opened up, which doesn't seem like it would be a Swiss Army Knife to me but a weapon designed for quick use.

I could see where a normal pocket knife could open up as it hit the ground on its hinged end. We don't know that anyone was cut by it in the fall.

I carry a Surge tool from leatherman

I automatically put it on every morning
With my belt
even closed if you get hit with it
it would hurt bad

I normally leave it in car when i go in park
But i have forgotten and brought it in a couple of times

I put it in locker when riding.

Closed Length: 4.5 in | 11.5 cm
Weight: 12.5 oz | 335 g
Primary Blade Length: 3.1 in | 7.87 cm
