Just because an IP is popular/unpopular at the moment doesn't mean a land or ride should/shouldn't be built. It's all about immersion. Avatar will undoubtedly be one of the most immersive creations WDW has seen built ever. WDW is high on theming, but this will be their first land like WWoHP.

If it is amazingly themed and has good rides, nothing else matters.

But it speaks to it's longevity and the impact it will have. You will not see people lining up like you did for Potter 1.0.

That would be perfect for a western canyon based ride...you get to close to the edge in your stage coach and teether back and forth before you get your footing back.

This is true, but on the other hand look at the places that it doesn't matter. Matterhorn, Splash Mountain, these can work without a narrative. The problem is what can be linked with Avatar that doesn't tie in with the movies to an extent to detriment the attraction. Remember, Splash and all these rides were still based in old school Imagineering design, new design requires some sort of intro story and immersion that requires you to be part of the story. That's my worry here.

We can be the jury and decide or not if we should send them to Azkaban. Kinda like the American idol experience but a lot darker. I can just imagine a crowd of tourist chanting "BURN THE WITCH" as an actor inside a spiked cage like the movies pretends to cry

I think if it's a show, it would be more likely based on or at least similar to the battle at the ministry where sirius dies. They could do a part where a bunch of globes crash, then could have the room where the order vs death eater battle occurs. Maybe have it be a walkthrough where we start touring the ministry and end up running into a wizard battle. Maybe even have it go out to the main area where the voldemort/dumbledore battle happens. Theres all kinds of special effects they could do with this. Theres the glass breaking, fire and water effects, spells flying back and forth. I'm sure they could figure out the smoky flying effect as well.

Well we live in different times now where rides like splash would probably never happen today. We live in a world of no risks and it's sad because we will probably never get a ride based off an old property for atleast a couple decades (disney classics aside)

Why do I NOT believe this interview actually happened? Tom Williams doesn't really do interviews, save for a few sound bites here and there. I doubt he would do an interview with Jim Hill. Plus, the Williams quotes sound very Jim Hill-ish. And the entire "article" is basically fluff.

Sorry, went on a Jim Hill rant. Great storyteller but maybe not the best reporter.

Talked with Tom Williams today, he and Jim spoke when they flew him down before the grand open on Tues. I'm sure Jim's article is edited highlights from a longer discussion, but the quotes are genuine.

Thought Avengers had a higher appeal.

But Star Wars carries around the same amount and more than HP. Star Wars Disney has rights too yes?

And I for one wish UNIVERSAL had gotten their hands on Avatar only because I thought they could theme it better but if people don't like a movie, doesn't mean they wont enjoy an attraction. Sometimes attractions get people to further look into a franchise. (Like HP did with me)

It doesnt look like Uni could have themed it better. I dont want a soarin over pandora ride, nor do I really want a boat ride, but I definitely dont want a 3d avatar ride from Uni... if disney does what they are planning, its going to be very very creative. And apparently the AA's have 64 axis rotation or something like what which apparently has never done before. So not only are you seeing the tree of life redone, a new land where things light up when you touch them, 2 new rides and high-tech AA's

I love Uni more than Disney currently, but give credit where credit is due.

Of course, we have yet to see the final product, but atleast they are trying harder than the last decade.

I acknowledge that, but currently I feel that Uni doesnt need more screens, that includes kong. and they definitely need to balance it more at USO than IOA.

And No, I do not want to get back into the 3D argument, it is just my opinion and observation. I think Disney could utilize Screen technology more.

I love Universal's 3D attractions, but I agree that after Kong, a few non 3D attractions would help round out the in park experiences. Also possibly replacing some of the older less impressive 3D attraction like Shrek.

The Great Movie Ride is gigantic. Not nearly enough room there

Yep I agree, thats why some people suggest utilizing the buildings around it and make it a multilevel building. There could be a twister scene that you are in the middle of a twister and it starts lifting you to a different area.
