I watched the Detective Conan 4D show yesterday and it was INCREDIBLE! I was genuinely so surprised. It reminded me so much of what made the old Terminator 3D show so good. I really think they should bring this show to Universal Studios Hollywood for FFN. It would fit perfectly in DWT. So so so so good.

Wishing you a great trip in USJ @saint.piss, did you get the chance to go into Jaws?

Rode Jaws twice yesterday. On my last visit (February 2024) I rode it 5 times. I'm going back to the park today to hopefully do DKC and ride Mine Cart Madness and I'll probably do a few more rides on Jaws before we leave. The single rider for Jaws is incredible and is only a 3-5 minute wait usually compared to the 40-60 minute standby line. It was packed yesterday

Here's my photos from my trip last week! I went two days (01-20-25 to 01-21-25).

Just to comment on some things: the food. While I was at the park I tried the two Mario and Luigi pancake sandwiches, ate at Amity Landing and got one of my favorite snacks at SNW: The Green Shell Calzone Filled with Yakisoba & Cheese. Those pancake sandwiches... so damn good. I hope they sell them at our SNW here in Florida when Epic opens but I doubt it. The one in Hollywood doesn't sell them for whatever reason so I doubt Florida will. My favorite was definitely the Luigi one (it has cheesecake flavoring inside) but I really enjoyed both. As for Amity Landing, what an adorable and quaint restaurant. Does it have the greatest food ever? No. But it's good! I got the fried chicken meal and the cream Swiss roll cake. The chicken was really greasy but delicious imo. I ate on the upper level of the restaurant and it was a really nice view. Easily could've sat there for hours. Also curious about what the Yoshi's Snack Island stand at Epic will sell, because the snacks there are very catered to Japan and aren't things we will most likely get here in Florida. Unfortunately. That little calzone is amazing.

Second and lastly: the shows. While I was there I saw: Universal Monster Live Rock & Roll Show, Detective Conan 4-D Live Show: Jewel Under the Starry Sky and Sesame Street 4-D Movie Magic™. I had seen the Sing! show when I went to the park last year already so we skipped that one. My favorite show ended up being Detective Conan (read my earlier post about it on this page) but I really enjoyed the other two still. I didn't realize till yesterday that the Universal Monster show at USJ is the same thing that Florida had years ago aka Beetlejuices Graveyard Revue. It was a really entertaining show and so fun. What a shame Florida lost it for SUPERCHARGED. BOOOOOOOO lol. The Sesame Street movie show felt a lot like Universal's version of Muppet Vision. Though since it wasn't in English I had no idea what was going on

My ranking of the USJ shows
1. Detective Conan
2. Sing!
3. Universal Monsters Rock and Roll
4. Sesame Street

@saint.piss Do you have a favorite of the Disney/Universal Japan parks. Seems like Universal Japan has a lot of real good attractions, but doesn't come close to the beauty and ride/attraction variety of either of the two Tokyo Japan Disney parks. That ugly industrial neighborhood seems to detract from Universal Japan.

One of the voice actors in Conan 4D was replaced recently due to scandal.

Toru Amuro VA Toru Furuya admitted to allegations in 2024 that he had an abusive extramarital affair with a fan. He was recast in the Conan anime last June but apparently he wasn't replaced at USJ until just recently. The new VA is Tsuyoshi Kusao.

Also, front gate TM uniforms were just updated for the first time since park opening in 2001. The new uniforms debuted this week alongside new front gate security checkpoints.

New: Left
Old: Right

Just my opinion, but the new outfits seem to be another move away from USJ as a "movie/studios" park.

Hopefully the m&g returns to Orlando as well. I know Hollywood is finally getting it soon (within the next few months I believe)

After a price raise going into effect in May, a 1-day ticket for USJ will officially be more expensive than Tokyo Disneyland.

An $80 dollar theme park ticket! Absurd what prices they'll charge these days.

EDIT: To be fair, to a Japanese citizen, it might be relatively equivalent to what we would pay for a ticket given how weak the Japanese yen has been for most of my life. Good for tourists, bad for your average Japanese citizen.

The economic status of the Japanese citizenry has dropped quite a bit since they were number one worldwide in 1990. They are now far down the list of developed nations , falling behind even the poorest states (average) in the US. Theme park pricing would be a direct relationship. Stagflation has killed their economy.

The median income is lower than it is in the United States, though I'd argue a) not by that much and b) they have a much more affordable healthcare system. The lower price of the theme park tickets is tied to Japanese income, sure, but it's also cultural. Americans have much less of a problem, despite the grousing, with getting gouged for experiences than in many parts of the world.

I initially thought it was closer as you say, but then an article appeared in either the NY Times or Wash. Post last week that broke it down, worldwide, among developed countries since 1990. The results really surprised me....especially Japan's median sliding all the way to the point that Mississippi (of all states/places) had a higher median. Japan was not even in the top ten nations and USA was far above anyone else. The Japanese economy, so lauded in 1990, no longer exists. Demographics, real estate massive drop, and stagflation are real.
