Because people also like Steampunk, Universal has yet to do that style in an entire land, and there is going to be an almost entirely indoor Potter land right across the park

If they don't have some tesla coils on the roof tops (or in the dark ride) I will be disappointed. It could be the dragon fire of the Classic Monsters land. Every 15 minutes the coils charge up and display a massive amount of arcing electricity above the castle.

Actually a tesla coil "show" similar to the scene in Sorcerers Apprentice could be pretty bad ass. Not sure if it would be practical or safe at all though.

The upkeep would be enormous if located outside, it would need a dome or a warehouse to protect it but that would be an awesome addition. They could have several in different sizes and jacob's ladders as well.

Honestly either would be cool but thinking this land will not be successful with the GP. I could be wrong but seems to niche for todays IP based market.

I think the 19th century gothic elements steampunk draws from would blend well with the tone of the IP

I believe there is room for some experimentation with style in regards to the Universal Monsters and, like Marvel, the aesthetics aren't really locked into a particular "look"

It will also help to give the land a bit separate of an identity from the Potter lands.

Personally, I'm kind of glad they're going this direction with it

They tried a giant Tesla coil for HHN 2004.

They stopped bothering with it after two weeks.

I don't mind steampunk elements, but an entire Monsters-land themed around steampunk doesn't work for me. Sorry, I don't want a steampunk Dracula or Phantom of the Opera.

It sounds like it's used sparingly on ride vehicles and on Frankenstein's castle, which feels right. Anything more is gilding lilies.

Nearly every day in Florida's summer could have Mutha Nature replicate a Castle Lightening show. Just put up a couple of 200 ft. tall steel rods and you have a cheap special effects show. :grin:

From the construction photos it looks like Monsters is at least getting a nice "tunnel" entrance. Epic Universe's design of separate lands with only one way in or out is making a lot of sense when it comes to immersion.
