The great thing is it can stand alone— if they ended there it would still work, simply tying into the 1939 story. I think the second part has great potential to outperform the first after everyone has seen this for a year.

I loved the way the song from the finale kept playing under the opening song, hinting at what’s to come, and Arianna’s acting in that scene was so spot on when you know what’s coming, or actually what’s happened since the opening scene happens after the finale chronologically.

Honestly thinking more about it, it really makes these Disney live actions look like crap. Turns out having a real set and artists doing thoughtful design work makes a difference.

I watched it last night and it was incredible.

I imagine the box office will see a huge boost next year when it will inevitably release before part 2.

Once again my husband listening to every podcast about Wicked he can find came across another mention of Universal building rides based on Wicked-- once again, just an off hand remark with no real insights, but it's pretty obvious even non-theme park people can see this would be a great addition to the parks.

This time it's theme park fan Ariana Grande on Las Culturistas

Kudos to Matt Rogers for knowing Epic and that there is an expansion pad (although he mentions the pad on the Nintendo side). Also, Universal really needs to get Ariana to voice Hermione for the Potter attractions-- she is SPOT ON Emma Watson. All this is in the first few minutes if you want to listen.

It's amazing to see that the soundtrack is streaming and selling really well-- I know several people listening on an endless loop. Interestingly the Original Broadway Cast recording is also doing big numbers too with people wanting to hear the second part now.

This movie was phenomenal. The acting, set design, and singing were fantastic. I give a lot of credit to the director for the pacing. It did not feel as long as it was, every scene felt organically paced, I couldn’t possibly be more pleased!!!

And omg the cameos!!! I was fully unaware. Ultimately this movie is so empowering and hours later the film can’t leave me. Truly a near basic perfect film experience. Rush to go if you haven’t!

very sad. and the writing in those movies isn't the best either, whenever they change something or add something it always end up poorly.

having real artists goes beyond the sets, it goes into script and casting and production and even the music.
I haven't seen wicked yet, but, Disney is cutting so many corners, your point made me wonder about all the poor planning in some of the Disney movies.

If you guys listen carefully, the movie soundtrack not only added notes from the Wizard of Oz but the Wiz as well....one short day the beginning of when they arrive pulls some of the music from the 1978 film the Wiz when the squad arrives at the emerald city which wasn't present in the original broadway cast soundtrack.

After seeing this film, I give it a 9.5/10 based on how I feel next day. .5 off from perfection is solely because a few things were slightly drawn out. I did not feel film was too long, but a few minor things should’ve ended faster, especially the very very ending. Really nitpicking though, I plan to see it again.

I 100% expect Erivo and Grande to get Oscar noms as well.

I haven't been keeping up on this thread but it's too bad Universal didn't project Wicked would be as big of a success as it's been when designing Epic Universe. It's primed for theme park attractions / themed land, and would have been pretty cool to have something that opens up early next year riding the success of Part 1 & Part 2 coming in the fall

I get it, they already have one land based off of a failed franchise they had to pivot away from mid-design.

Better they waited until they knew it would be a success. Imagine if they had greenlit Van Helsing before the movie came out (and tanked). Of course it’s now sort of the basis for Monsters Unleashed so no attraction idea ever really dies, it just gets repurposed.

With the critical and financial success of Wicked (and I’m sure it will have “legs” and keep playing for months in theaters), they can now safely green light a park project and most likely fast track it.

And they're also getting a taste of how/if it can move merch. And considering I was trouble finding sizes for purchase on a few items between the Experience store and CityWalk, it looks like it's selling.

The overlay they did for Universal Singapore gives a taste of the potential in parks:
