I have seen it. I am still trying to process it. But I will tell people who know the show that it's familiar and different in the best ways.

Just saw it too... the 3rd act of this movie is INCREDIBLE. Absolutely amazing stuff. The first two acts were really fun and decently made, but the last 30 or so minutes. Phenomenal. The ending gave me chills. Bring on part 2!!!!

I mean...Moana might just beat this but I have a feeling Wicked is the movie of the year and Holidays

Just feels like its a solid film, with a big star in it and works for both adults and younger people

Seeing it Tomorrow night and love the musical so sounds like the film will be just as good

Rotten Tomatoes audience score is 99% right now. Of course most who saw it yesterday are die hard fans who have been anxiously awaiting the movie for years, but it's still a great score with over 1,000 reviews in.

I mean he doesn’t like the music and didn’t find the plot interesting

Cool, most people won’t have these issues

Rotten Tomatoes has the movie at 91% among critics. He definitely seems to be in the minority.

Guys, can we please let film critics evaluate the project on their own terms and not reflexively dismiss their takes because they aren't necessarily buying into the hype?

Of course, wasn't my intent to single out this guy. Just wanted to point out the current RT score.

Some reviewers though really really really miss the plot.

This is the problem with making it two 2.5 hour parts and not advertising at all the fact that this is only part one. I mean, I’m sure the reviewers know that, but those plot points pay off hard in the second act, which is now a completely separate movie instead of the second half of one show. Even if you know there’s a second part, you’re only reviewing the story up to the end of act 1 so these things just seem like throwaway filler.

It’s one review, from someone who clearly knows nothing about what Wicked’s message is, and will probably eat crow when the second part releases and it all pays off.

Regardless, the clear vast majority is loving it. I suspect an A or A+ cinema score.

You can't expect the reviewers to do anything but critique what's in front of them. The Animal subplot is fairly light and certainly not one of the strongest elements of the stage musical. If the movie couldn't make the Animal material in Act 1 work better than it (barely) does on Broadway, I'm afraid that's on the movie and the filmmakers. If they failed to make Nessaroose feel like an essential character in this film, it begs the question how and why it was split into two parts.
