Just think a year ago folks were worried DHS was going to get HK/Paris version of Toy Story Land and Disney just gave them a Quarter Pounder instead of a McDouble and they rejoiced. Some of us may live to see it completed.

The more I read into the history of the Guardians Of The Galaxy members used in the movie, the more I'm sure it would be impossible for Disney to use them in Orlando. Take Groot for instance: before he was used in GotG he was used as a villain creature in The Hulk. Gamora was featured both in 1977's Avengers annuals as well as in the Silver Surfer comics. Drax was featured in The Avengers comics in the 1980's and had a prominent role in The Silver Surfer comics starting in 1990. So while the GotG comic itself was published after the Universal/Marvel contract was signed, most of the characters began in earlier Marvel comics. This gives Universal the perfect argument that while they don't have the rights to the Guardians Of The Galaxy name, they do have the rights to the characters that make up the team due to the 'family' clause of the contract.

If we are taking Spirit's words as mostly true, he has said ad nauseum!!!! GotG CAN be used in the parks so let's stop the debating on that part...it has been long know GotG is free game, but much more confusing, as well as BH6 and possibly Dr. Strange

Just because Spirit says it can be used does not make it so. Big Hero 6, and all of its characters, were created AFTER the Univeral/Marvel contract, so they are far game. Guardians Of The Galaxy, while the comic title itself doesn't fall under the contract, there is good argument that many if not all of the characters that make up the team fall under the contract with Universal. Most of the key players started off, or played intrical parts, it comics well known to be under Universal control and therefor could fall purview to the family clause of the contract. So yes, the TITLE Guardians Of The Galaxy could be used by Disney in WDW. However, the characters themselves is a whole other story, one that I'm sure could get very complicated very fast unless some sort of arrangement between Disney and Universal takes place (like perhaps Disney allowing renovations to MSHI to bring it more in line with MCU in exchange for free use of the Guardians Of The Galaxy characters in Orlando parks.)

Just because he said it doesn't make it true. Robert Niles has a pretty good track record and said no so.....

If there was a GotG meet and greet in WDW already with no recourse then......?

And we really think Disney would not vet this before getting months away from a possible closure for re-theme.....?

They can be used, have been used, and may be used in near future. Sorry

You have no clue what the circumstances surrounding the GoTG meet and greet were. It could have been that Disney got approval from Universal for the meet and greet. It could be that Universal simply turned a blind eye as they didn't see a meet and greet as a major issue. Simply put, you don't know. What is known is the current stipulations of the contract. And those stipulations could mean legal trouble for Disney if they decide to push forward with the refurb. I have no doubt Disney has vetted this, and I'm sure they are banking on the ambiguous nature of Guardians Of The Galaxy comic as a whole in the rights issue to get away with it. But if Universal didn't give some sort of approval and decided to bring it to arbitration, Disney is likely to be penalized.

Sorry

And yet there was a permanentish Meet & Greet for every Marvel character attached to a current movie in Disneyland yet Guardians didn't get one in Florida (other than the 1 time thing).

From what I understand, Guardians could be the easiest get for WDW, but that doesn't mean there is some legal proceedings/clearings/whateveryouwannacallit to go through first.

Universal banned a monorail wrap to go through Epcot with The Avengers....

They wouldn't complain about a meet and greet that went for days?

Disney didn't use Marvels name in the meet and greet mind you.

They can use them. It's logic. The emotional side wishes they wouldn't but that's beside the point.

BTW is said the hotel theme will go away and The Collectors hideaway will replace. Think Mystic Manor....

You answered your own question. The monorail would have been in rotation for months if not a year. The meet and greet was something that lasted only days. There is a big distinction between the two and its on LOGICAL then for Universal to only raise a stink about the monorail.

Oh, and btw, if ANY character is for sure Universal's alone to use, it's The Collector. His ENTIRE comic history is tied and built in The Avengers comics, which Universal has complete theme park rights over. There is absolutely no grey area to that one.

What? Your entire argument is built on rumor and speculation. My counter argument is built on solid well know facts. I'm sorry if those facts don't line up with what you are hearing from Spirit, but it doesn't change them one bit.

Nope fact is they have and can be used. Disney hates spending unnecessary money. Even before this, a Marvel less (the key) GotG was being looked at for Phase 3 or 4 to DHS expansion. Meaning it is not sold as Marvel GotG, just GotG. Like rides were planned and researched. That cost money.

We shall see....and let's come together and hope it never happens!

Show me solid facts besides "Spirit says so" and "they had a LIMITED meet and greet," and I'll concede. But that's the thing, you don't have anything beside that. You are pointing out hearsay and circumstantial evidence at best. What I'm pointing out is a LEGALLY binding contract. See the difference?

Like BriMan said before, there are plenty of other insiders that doubt Disney has the rights to use them as well.

I can agree with you on the last part. I sure hope this never happens in WDW. It would be travesty.

The Guardians also appear in all their glory in the new ending montage for the Great Movie Ride. Actually part of an attraction. Permanently. If Universal made a stink about the Monorail, I can't imagine what they would've said about that. I also distinctly remember a huge poster for the movie on the backside of GMR, and a poster for the soundtrack currently in RnRC. They, can, be, used. Period. End of story.

Again, things you don't know the context behind. I swear, it's like I'm talking to a wall. Let me break it down for you: We have zero knowledge of the circumstances surrounding the inclusion of anything GoTG related in the WDW resort. The contract makes it difficult to say with any certainty that Disney does have free use of it. Now this is just me theorizing here, but aren't there currently rumors of MSHI getting a update to match the MCU? Even now, everyone is speculating/hoping that the return of The Hulk will be based on the MCU. If that's the case, how did Universal ever get clearance from Disney to do such a thing? Oh, perhaps conceding Guardian Of The Galaxy character rights to Disney would be a good start. Which would account for those additions. Even if that's not the case, those inclusions alone could very well be Universal allowing Disney use the characters in that nature. Universal can't use the GoTG name, so those characters are useless to them if they have the rights. A poster and film clip are a far cry from a full blown attraction.
