I just can't believe we're talking timelines on a Mario game. I mean, Mario Kart: Double Dash had Mario and Baby Mario in the same lineup.

The land looks great. Universal has done it again.

Is there any particular reason as to why Yoshi has a height requirement? The only reason I can think of is because of it being elevated above the land but it goes so slow and has a fence I can’t imagine there ever being an accident.

Does it have a fence on the bridge part? I wasn't sure.

Height requirements are often set by the manufacturer, and usually have everything to do with restraints. The restraints may not be safe for children who are smaller, and lap-sitting is not allowed.

I'm sorry--but outside of Zelda and Pokemon, timelines *do not matter* in the grand scheme of the Mario, Yoshi, and Donkey Kong franchises. They don't; unless you go to specific spinoffs that have no direct meaning to mainline titles. And even then--those timelines are loose and freeform.

I don't come to Super Nintendo World's Mario attractions expecting major lore. I expect to have fun.

Guys, not sure we should really be getting into... timelines for a game series that has literally never taken canon seriously. Mario Kart literally has Baby Mario and adult Mario available to play in the same race, simultaneously. There is nothing weird about a bunch of kid-friendly characters showing up in the Yoshi ride.

Yea. Complaints like this make it really hard for me to believe people would have been happy with anything. Complaining about Baby Mario and Captain Toad being in the same ride comes off as searching for something to complain about.

Timelines barely even matter in Zelda, too. There's only ever the most tenuous of connections, and they tend to contradict their "official" timeline all the time.

I would say, the more the merrier. There's nods to tons of games like Mario Maker and Luigi's Mansion in the Mario Kart queue too, which is pretty cool! I would want everyone that's ever played a Mario or Yoshi game to recognize something. I am not familiar with the newer games, so seeing older stuff is fun. Younger kids will appreciate newer characters. Win win.

Wasn't one of the biggest complaints about Galaxy's Edge that it stuck too firmly to one timeline, so some people that prefer other time periods feel left out?

If there's any franchise that can get away with mixing things, it's Mario.

None of the Mario Kart games are canon. You could always argue time travel. I don’t really care, I like seeing Baby Mario and Baby Peach. My problem is that they’re wasting precious ride time with generic Mario stuff, and the 3D World desert theme. Yoshi has so many unique characters and settings. I wanted to see more of THAT in a Yoshi ride.

How can the E.T. ride take us into space? I don't even know what's going on once we get there but we somehow save the day.

Sometimes a simple dark ride with nice themes is just a simple dark ride with nice themes.

While I don't mind the greatest hits compilation of the Yoshi ride, I don't think it would be unfair to say that a ride like Seuss Trolley (the good vehicles), Storm Force, Kang and Kodos, or even One Fish Two Fish have a more cohesive story. While I really love the outdoor scenes of the tiny Yoshi(s?) screwing around, I tend to agree that one more interior scene (as in Seuss) would serve the attraction well.

I'm never gonna find an excuse for that queue, space limitations aside. I despise being so close able to touch the wall that is supposed to be "sky". Breaks the careful immersion that is done literally everywhere else in the land. Reminds me of the awful Buzz Lightyear queue where everything is a printed graphic, with shades of Maelstrom's old queue.

As for timelines, I appreciate the way they are throwing everything into the pot. I even think that the "warp pipe" you go into could signify going back in time to see the Baby characters. I just feel like the animated figures, ESPECIALLY Yoshi depicted mid-run, are a big sore point for me. I think the main reason for this, though, is that you have some really well-done characters just outside (The Piranha Plants are SO real, the walking characters outdoors ACTUALLY walk, everything is so full of life) and inside for some reason there is a real disconnect. I think this would have really worked if they did a hopping animatronic like the Brers - it just really feels plastic-y in that scene. However. I think the story other than that is just fine. You need to get three eggs, they lead to the Golden Egg, Captain Toad is counting on you! Here, ride a Yoshi. A small nitpick: I think by calling it Yoshi's Adventure they set up that this ride will be about the plot of Yoshi's Island. I know it's longer, but Yoshi's Golden Egg Adventure could be more accurate, at risk of being far more clunky.

EDIT: I think that it's just as important to state the praises of the attraction. The interactivity is STELLAR and PERFECT for this attraction. It reminds me of the inventiveness of One Fish Two Fish, which I think is a genius component. I also think that NOT having a sky tram ride in this location would be absolutely bonkers, considering how incredibly immersive it is. The more ways to get bang out of that incredibly realized world, the better. I think everyone has ALWAYS wanted to ride a Yoshi, and this is the best way to do it to include EVERYONE. Sure, accuracy would be better in a "steeplechase" attraction, but this allows grandparents to ride with their kids, something Universal as a whole NEEDS. I really love the Toadette queue scene, and I think the pecking scene is awfully cute. I've seen a photo series where a Yoshi tongue fully extends from his mouth to catch one of the fruits, and I can't see it in any POVs yet. I thought it looked wildly realistic, I can't wait to see it again. I love Captain Toad at the end, and the music is such a bob the entire way through.

I have no problem with cross pollination. Seeing the Gateway Galaxy planet in the queue for Mario Kart is amazing. I’m just not a fan of how much 3D World stuff is on the Yoshi ride, when the entire land already has a lot of 3D World stuff. Yoshi isn’t even in that game.

If the ride was longer, I wouldn’t care. I thought we were going to see some sort of climax or something.

To be fair, it's narrating what you're passing in the land, generally. Though I do NOT enjoy each of those audio tracks equally.

Yoshi does not have a "story". It is literally, "Ride with Yoshi to help Captain Toad find some eggs". There is no narrative. Not every ride has or needs a "story".

On the subject of music in the land, has anybody heard any newly-orchestrated versions of cues from the NES or SNES games so far (outside of the main Super Mario Bros. theme)?

Cues as in sound effects? Or as in music?

I think part of it is that Yoshi is also a part of the main land’s theming, hence so many 3D world elements like the desert setting above the building.

I mean. That is the story. There's a treasure map with four eggs on it, then you find them, then he thanks you. That is a story. I'm confused with your point.

I get it. There's definitely stuff from Yoshi's Island that I wish there was more of, especially for a Yoshi ride.

I'm satisfied with the rest of the land though, and I get that it's not for me.

Music. I know there are sound effects dating back to those games.

If that's the story I'm confused what the cohesion problem is.

But "Find the eggs" is not a story. It's a concept. The ride is not a story. It's a scavenger hunt and we travel through a series of tableaus that allow us to finish that scavenger hunt.
