Horror Nights Wish List - Orlando

I would love to see Demon Slayer come to HHN (if only for the Nezuko popcorn bucket from Japan...). The first season and Mugen Train have a variety of environments and demons that would translate well to a house. I'd also argue that it's more popular than a good portion of the IPs brought to the event in the last five years and would attract a new audience.
I’m quite surprised USJ hasn’t used any anime IP’s for HHN. Universal “Cool Japan” would’ve been a great mix with Halloween Horror Nights.
Anyways if that were to happen they could’ve gone with:
- Demon Slayer
- JoJo Bizzare Adventure
- Attack On Titan
- Jujutsu Kaisen

For original content, I would love to see a Japanese evil spirits house come to the event. That and a Vikings house would be awesome. Those are two concepts I really want to see played out.

As for IPs, here's a list of IPs I really want to see represented at HHN. Once they're all done, I can die a happy man.

-Hellraiser (Why hasn't this been done yet!? I mean, I know why, but it's still weird after all of these years it's still not be translated into a house)
-Scream (Yeah, I know about the whole mess from 25)
-Thirteen Ghosts (Meh movie but would make a DOPE house)
-The Thing (Original)
-The Fog (Original)
-Evil Dead (Original)
-Dead Alive
-Tremors
-The Lost Boys
-It
-Conjuring (I know will probably never happen at this point but a man can dream)
-NoES 3: Dream Warriors
-Troll 2 (No, I'm serious. I think it'd make a really fun house. If Hollywood can do This is the End, why not this?)
-The Grudge
-Jaws (It can be done. I wrote a treatment for a house out of boredom many moons ago, but it's long buried).
-Phantasm
-Arkham Asylum (This would do gangbusters)
-Twin Peaks (Gotta give David Lynch some love here)

Any wish list with Hellraiser gets an auto-like me, despite Jaws and Twin Peaks being on here.

I know some folks don't like the movie, but Thirteen Ghosts would honestly make me terrified. Murderous ghosts with super specific and horrible backstories you can only see with special glasses? And the beautiful protective glass that randomly opens to become a torture labyrinth? Could you imagine Dennis handing out glasses after you've already entered the house so you can see the transformation from beautiful space to frightening maze? Yikes.

Yeah, that movie did a number on me back in the day.

This is one of the few mazes that would be great with a 3D or Dead Exposure type effect with tons of mirror gags and optical illusions.

Here's my realistic short list of IPs that I absolutely need:

-Dead by Daylight- this seems like one of the easiest video games to adapt for a haunt. The killers all have varied designs and settings already to be recreated in great detail. You could also incorporate some of the lore elements like the Observer's tower and a large scale Entity puppet for the finale.

-Halloween Kills- it might be prudent to wait until the final movie of the new Halloween trilogy comes to an end until they bring it to the event, but with the mazes being some of the most popular in the past, it only makes sense to resurrect Michael Myers for Horror Nights.

-Fear Street- the collaborations between Netflix and Horror Nights have all been great successes so far, so it only makes sense to capitalize on the popularity of the Fear Street trilogy. To differentiate between Dead by Daylight, you could lean heavily into the witchy aspects and history of Sunnyvale and Shadyside.

-Malignant- this movie was so fun and perfectly suited for a haunt, I know all these suggestions are very heavy on the slasher aspect of horror, so this maze should really lean into the abstract visuals and unique cinematography of the film to portray Gabriel's visions. You could also incorporate a lot of stunts and violence to show off his crazy physicality.

Not necessarily a “wish list” item, but The Handmaid’s Tale.

It’s on Hulu, but it’s an MGM production, meaning I’m pretty sure Disney has no say here. It’s recent, popular, and would fit the event as an IP in the way of TWD/AHS/ST.

Although Squid Game is a clear choice for something I actually want to see.

I would be surprised if we don't see Squid Game in the near future. It usually takes two years to bring a big TV show to the event, of course.

Eh… getting the rights would be bit more complicated than most other Netflix shows. Universal typically pitches the show’s creatives as a way to show ease the negotiation process. Pitching an entirely South Korean team is entirely cost prohibitive right now because the country requires a 14 day quarantine for any international travelers regardless of vaccination status. They could do a virtual pitch, but there’s still a lot of cultural stuff to work through (like South Korea not having a Universal and Halloween still being a fairly recent addition to their cultural landscape).

If anything, Squid Game would not be out of place in Japan though considering how interactive everything is at their event. Plus, Japan is closer to South Korea than the American HHN's are, meaning more Korean tourist are likely to experience the Japan event more than Orlando and Hollywood.

IMO, Japan (and or Singapore) would likely need to have Squid Game before Orlando and Hollywood can get the IP.

Indeed. Odds are more likely that we'd probably get an original house that is Squid Game-esque, just running with the general idea of those death games. Maybe even use that as some new theming for a RUN house.

Suspiria (as I'm sure you can tell) is still my #1 desire. Hearing that sinister Goblin soundtrack while walking into the dance academy would give me chills in the best way.

The Frighteners

Re-Animator

The Ju-On series

I'm naturally in the Hellraiser camp. I even think both 1 & 2 could be combined into one house.

Motel Hell (as long as we're wishing, I might as well wish for the impossible!)

Virus (biomechanical ship captain Donald Sutherland, please!)

13 Ghosts would have been super cool this year. Only house where plexiglass could have worked lol.

Channel Zero (Any season. All seasons)

Until Dawn

I also want Vanity Ball's characters to get their own house/story

So for an easy show idea...

Horror drag show.

As a huge drag fan I approve. Not sure it has the mainstream appeal to work as the headliner show (a la Bill & Ted or Nightmare Fuel) but as a secondary show (like Rocky Horror in the past) absolutely. Several of the Dragula queens are from the Orlando area too.

Phantasm could be cool. Was too drunk to understand it when I stumbled upon it late on Saturday but it has interesting set pieces, characters, and the soundtrack playing throughout the park could be fun.

Also The Fly….start the house with a vignette of the teleportation effect, then you’ve got the bar scene (arm crack effect), hospital birthing scene, hospital break-in scene, and a big scene of the finale interspersed with scenes set in the apartment with a bunch of creepy puppets and makeup showing the transformation.

They did some similar houses, well at least in the same vein, at HOS years...Not necessarily "ball culture" but some of the themes of VB were touched on

I wouldn't mind seeing Universal take a stab a the concept...it could start lighter in tone like the scarezone and then become more sinister

I seriously wish Universal includes Lovecraft's Color Out Of Space from the 2019 film. That could really work as a HHN maze. Also wish that Season of the Witch maze could make it next year as well.
