Toy Story Land - General Discussion

I'll take it. It's better than nothing...or another meet n greet or show.
Slinky Dog coaster looks like it will be fun. It won't be amazing, but it still looks fun.

What really bothers me about Toy Story Land is that this area is only getting two rides. We're not even talking about show-stopping E-tickets, we're talking a bare-bones themed coaster and one flat ride. Would it have killed them to add a couple more flats just for the sake of more rides? Not even just one more? They couldn't even bring over the Green Army man parachute ride? A Woody's Round Up tilt-a-whirl? What about a hot air balloon ride like Flick's Flyers at DCA? C'mon. Just adding one more small flat ride would Round the area off fairly well and would even bring the park's Ride count into double digits! All they needed was just one more flat.

Well, at least the park will finally have a descent family coaster. The Monsters Inc Door coaster would have been a far better choice. There is that. It's a shame that space is going to be so under-utilized.

If the track is complete, then it should only be a little bit of fun.
The track is not complete. There's still another hill (which will be reached via launch) and bunny hops to be added along with multiple turns leading into the station. The bunny hops actually look like they could make for a pretty fun part of the coaster, i'd say as far as "fun" level goes this could be more fun than SDMT, but less of an overall experience due to lack of theming.

WDWMagic got a pic of the lay-down yard for DHS, more specifically the Slinky track. This is near the WWoS area... would've been nice to see this about a month ago, but it seems Bio doesn't know about this.

I hope it's a lot more fun. I thought SDMT felt ridiculously sluggish.

Agreed. It was like they couldn't decide to make a dark ride or a coaster. One can really tell how cut back the final product was verses the initial ride path. Of course, now I wish Slinky Dog would have some dark ride elements to it in order to prolong the ride time. That is one of the reasons that I don't like launched coasters. They feel short because they don't have the slow lift hill. It's the same length in ride but the time is far shorter.

I believe I remember hearing top speed will be around 40 mph during one of the launches.
Sorry for the late reply here. That's not the best information, because top speed would occur after the hill, not a launch. And highly unlikely it'll be 40mph- I would expect the launches to be around 25-30mph to get up the hill w/o a chain lift and it might hit 30-35mph after the hill. The banks and length of track wouldn't support 40mph without requiring mummy-like braking. 43mph on Manta is the slowest Mack launch coaster out there- all their others are 62mph or faster.

This will be much more like firechaser express at Dollywood- less the backwards part. which is a 16 and 20mph launch with top speeds of 35mph. But those slow launches are because it has a chain lift which Slinky won't. However; Even going backwards at the end, it's only a 39" height requirement vs the 48" requirement on manta- which is exactly what they need a Slinky
