Can someone explain to me why it would be so difficult to not just put this on Max? I don’t understand tax implications, funding, paying out contracts, and all that. Out of pure stubbornness, why not throw it on a streaming service? It’s not like you’re adding 10 seasons of a show with 20 episodes each. It won’t take up much on the service. None of this makes sense to me.

Then you don't have to pay out certain things as well and so its because the pinch pennies and shows what a joke of system we have where in any universe it could be more profitable to not release a great film

Probably because they used it as a complete loss, and received the tax benefit in full.

While that would be great to see, how is that possible given that WB already (supposedly) took the tax write-off for the film?

I'm also intrigued by Ketchup's business strategy here. THE DAY THE EARTH BLEW UP did not exactly set the box office on fire, and I would be a little surprised if a theoretical COYOTE VS. ACME theatrical release covered their $50 million cost of acquiring that film, much less additional marketing costs (though the movie already has a certain amount of publicity and interest, and it's possible it could break-out in the right conditions).

I wonder if there are ancillary streaming/physical media rights included in these deals, and Ketchup believes licensing the film(s) post-theatrical will be their avenue to profitability?
