Honestly, just buy the SoCal deals. They're pretty frequent, and while they do have a time window, once purchased, you don't have any blackout dates, so you can go whenever you want. At this point, it practically seems like a better deal than the lower level APs.

I actually dig the new bride. A lot.

Although I prefer the more simple effect of just the still face and glowing eyes, the projection looks fine. Floating effect is awesome. It’s kind of a callback to the old bride that’s my favorite version. I like it.

I think that effect feels too modern for the ride, actually.

Apparently, Kim Irvine -- who reportedly runs creative at the Disneyland Resort -- is telling the press (LA Times) that the AI art in the Madame Leota gift shop was temporary. Really? Because planning a new structure in the middle of Disneyland is kind of a big project, and we are to believe they built the building but missed their deadline of mid-November to have the decorations done...by two months?

Give me a break. This feels like cover-your-ass spin.

And her quote really bothers me:

"They felt like it would be appropriate for a short time until they could put something else in. They never intended to do anything bad, and it is gone now. We’re going to bring something back in that is hand-painted, like all of these other pieces are."

Kim Irvine, Walt Disney Imagineering

Who's the "they" Kim? This sounds exactly like an executive -- who is supposed to be responsible -- implying some junior lackey did something in the HAUNTED MANSION GIFT SHOP THAT HAS A PAINTING OF HER MOTHER IN IT that she had no idea about. Classic executive deflection of responsibility. Kim, you're either in charge or not. If you get paid like an executive and you get to make all the big decisions, than you take the heat too, you don't throw your people under the bus.

where did you read that? the LA Times article seemed, to me anyway, to pretty clearly indicate the hanging man is sticking around this go around.

There's a particular quote from the article which also feels incredibly egregious. Commenting about the uproar about the AI picture.

"How can they find one thing out of all this cool stuff," Irving says of the fan outcry..."

As someone else has pointed out, Disney has spent decades training us to look at all the little details, posting blog posts going into the insane minutia of the "storytelling" for a floor design, hammering away at "The Disney Difference", the list goes on...so it truly shouldn't be a shocker that folks WILL find something like that. Acting all surprised that people did isn't helping Kim's case whatsoever.

It also doesn't help that the entirety of the Haunted Mansion gift shop is an absolute design failure and an embarrassment for the park and Imagineering department.

this really frustrated me, as well. i've got a piece coming out on this, but i was pretty taken aback by the way she handled the entire interview. it's (relatively) rare we get a peek behind the curtain at Imagineering and this one was ... well, not good!

I strongly agree with these points. I think the Kim Irvine quotes in the LA Times today are the most unflattering quotes I can ever recall by an active Imagineer in terms of:
  1. Showing poor leadership and a bad culture by throwing her team under the bus, given she's an executive (she should have said "Yep, we screwed that up. Thanks for holding us accountable.")
  2. Showing an out-of-touchness with the park fandom and all-knowing aspect of the internet (where has she been?). How can she be an executive at a pop culture/entertainment company and not know fans will figure everything out?
  3. Being defensive in a way that antagonizes the fandom (saying "How can they find one thing...")...you can imagine the disparaging way she must talk about the fans in closed door meetings in her office.
  4. BS-ing us (there is no way they had other art in the works and couldn't get it done...and if so, why didn't they come out and say that immediately?).
As far as I'm concerned, there's no credibility there. For this, and really for a bunch of absolutely mediocre work that's happened at the Disneyland Resort recently, which has been attributed to her park-dedicated team, I think it's time to ask: Should she move on from this assignment, she's had a long career, maybe it's time for new creative leadership there.

Also, wait a minute. They had time to fireproof a cheap AI poster ordered off the-shelf but not whatever the actual prop was? Even if it were true, it just implies atrocious project management.

Apparently they are indeed considering it, and have been since 2021. The only thing holding them back is probably just trying to figure out what to put in its place.
