It was valid 2006-2013, a good chunk of time when Disney was happy to add playgrounds to queues and that’s it.

Sure Disney is building now but it’s still so slow that when they get back around to a park it’s 88 years later. Watching some old WDW trip planning VHS on YouTube and every year parks would get something new, sometimes multiple things!

Except in that time they built Hong Kong DL, two hotels there, a TSL, Grizzly Gulch, Mystic Manor, the two Pixar rides at DLP Studios park, Ratatouille, another TSL, a Tower of Terror, two cruise ships, and Art of Animation. I don't count DVC because that just pays for itself on its own.

The next wave of announced things after Tron/MMRR at DL is Zootopia in Shaghai, the Frozen+other stuff at HK, the DLP Studios expansion, and more cruise ships plus an island.

The ebb and flow between domestic and international is pretty much the norm after the initial DLP disaster because everyone is fighting for the same dollars and it's impossible for one site to keep winning in perpetuity.

This is probably one of the funniest arguments I’ve seen here.

“Yes we’re getting new stuff every year but it’s taking too long. I only want new stuff every year if the construction time is <2 years.”

Seriously what does the lead time have to do with anything?

I'm talking about WDW which is what I thought the discussion was about.

Not the point I'm making, I'm saying they're adding things at a clip that once they do a rotation to the parks it's a decade later. Maybe they should have multiple rides under construction at once?

Once Guardians and Tron open which could easily be within the next 6 months, the only thing being built is Moana which is barely anything.

And then what? a 3 year minimum build if anything is announced at D23.

But it's impossible to properly understand WDW's lean periods without the global component. It's not like TDO was sitting around doing nothing. They put forward ideas. Those ideas lost to international expansion.

Along those lines, this thread wouldn't even exist if something else hadn't been cancelled relatively close to getting announced.

Are they not though?

I’ll give you Magic Kingdom…they’re only getting Tron

Epcot had 1.) Ratatouille 2.) Guardians 3.) The whole entrance plaza going at once

Hollywood had 1.) Toy Story 2.) Star Wars 3.) Mickey/Minnie all at once

Animal Kingdom had 1.) Avatar (though still two rides) and 2.) nighttime improvements all at once

I’m just not understanding the narrative being put forward here at all. Say they cut the number of parks down to two to match every other multi-park resort around the world—they’d be averaging more expansion than any other park in the world. Knock them for having more parks I guess but the net new experience count is the same. And the experiences themselves have been very substantial…like multi-attraction lands and significant ride experiences.

I get that people here don’t love the product being put out (even I can admit I probably only defend it out of nostalgia) but to say they’re not expanding or building is, like, factually wrong ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My primary take is composed of two parts. 1) They shouldn't have the long periods between builds for these parks but should be adding two rides/park per decade. They can devote MK's allotment to the other three to try and balance the load. 2) The cost of the rides needs to be brought under control. When each ride costs $400M to build, no, they can't keep building. We see other parks build almost the same value for a lot less cost.

So, I understand why we're arguing about no new builds when there is a current explosion of new builds. However, those builds followed a long dead period. Further, MMRR came at the cost of GRM and Guardians replaced a ride. So, those are net gains while admitting that the outgoing rides had long lost their luster. In looking at the new rides, how many are true people eaters as well? Do any of them crack the 2,000 pph level? The Toy Story rides have lower throughput. Rise doesn't have great capacity and appears to be down frequently. Falcon has decent capacity to be fair. Rat does okay. Guardians will probably be in the 1,500-1,600 pph. These are decent but the parks need capacity attractions like Pirates, Haunted Mansion, etc. So, good for new builds but become more efficient and it won't need to be all or nothing.

Princess and the Frog will be the next big thing after Tron no matter what they announce.

If it was a real rotation, there would actually be something announced and under construction right now given Pandora was 5 years ago. Since nothing got announced for the park after Avatar and nothing currently understand, that's the problem. That's how DAK and the parks in general fall into the "decade trap".

Tbh, I'd have no issue if the only major announcement they had at D23 they decided to build Australia with multiple rides + fix Chester & Hester (by adding a ride back and changing the theming) along with something in Animation Courtyard where the useless Launch Bay is and a retheme of RNRC at DHS. Maybe a revival of Poppins would be fine for the interim.

That would make DAK closer to a full day park in terms of ride count/things to do and it would help DHS also, the two parks that need the most help in terms of rides and things to do. Epcot is coming off of Rat & GotG + Moana/spine and new designs for it's main store and main eatery, and new purpose built Starbucks. MK will be coming off Tron and will have the Princess and the Frog thing coming around 2024-ish supposedly.

Once upon a time, it was said that this attraction wouldn't have a dedicated and attached gift shop, but there is one:

C'mon now. With the building as big as it is, you really think they wouldn't try to put a gift shop at the ride's exit?

Also, the signage reminds me a little bit of T2:3D.

I'm not saying I thought there wouldn't be a gift shop, only that several insiders on Magic -- going back years, of course, since this has been under construction forever -- basically said, "It's hard to believe, but there's no gift shop in the blueprints at this point."

Looking at strictly total new attractions per year is like saying "sure I have 4 kids, but I feed at least one of them every day!" I think it's more logical to look at new attractions per capita and not total new attractions.

Disney released some images from the finished queue inside the "Galaxarium". The space looks huge, although it reminds me of the Test Track queue. Looks fine, but it looks very modern and the only thing to look at in this huge ass room is the fake solar system. I'd bet that's video projected though so there will at least be movement there.

What could the in-universe justification for one of Peter's mix tapes being included in a planetarium presentation possibly be?

School field trip to Epcot, of course!

Honestly though, none of these rides matter to the MCU as Feige has said that none of the rides are canon.

I mean more from the perspective of the Xandarians. Why would they include such a thing as part of their exhibit? What does it have to do with the evolution and structure of the galaxy? I'm clearly thinking more about this than the Imagineers did! They just wanted something that guests could point to and say, "Oooh, I know what that is."

Anyway, I've seen the videos circulating online of that main queue room; nice music, nice ambiance... but all the statements early on about how it would contain "educational elements to pay homage to Epcot's past" were either outright lies or extremely generous interpretations of what the phrase "educational elements" means. There are no real displays in there beyond the ceiling screen, and that appears (I haven't seen the entire loop of it) to be just random space imagery without any context.

Thank goodness. The last thing I want to spend my Saturday doing is learning anything. I spent the last 18 years of my life doing that. I’m happy to go buy eight drinks and ride a roller coaster without being talked down to.
