Just to add a little more to why this move may make "some" sense....Strong rumors are that Epcot...after 2020...will be getting quite the DHS like makeover which could change the theme of Future World (or that side) totally...

Disney has leverage. They could in return allow Uni to use the MCU characters.

It's obvious that Universal is not going that route though so...

Why ya think not with a highly sought after sequel coming in next year?

Infinity War will be including the Guardians in both Part One and Part Two.

If they we're to open it next year to try in competing of what Universal is going to offer, they only have one year in allowing the characters to be represented in the replacement.

In essence, the replacement would be temp in it's theme.

I'm just saying there has to be a reason that so many Disney insiders seem to be getting info that a ride is coming to WDW. And Martin says plans are finalizing. I doubt plans could get this far without legal saying they need to get their heads checked.

At this point I say we just wait till next year, when it's announced then reference back to this thread.

Knowing some of these posters for almost 15 years and their reputation...for all four to chime in and confirm...Hard not to think there is something brewing! We shall see and it shall be exciting times for sure! Im just looking for this seemingly endless debate to end once and for all!

Hype/Conversation piece. Sorry. I know they have good sources, but there is nothing Disney has (well at least willing to part with  ) that Universal wants.

UPDATE:

Well I reached out for some info.

Universal has no intention to relinquish on any of Marvel rights.

But... One source did say there could be a conversation that gets brought up in regards to helping UO out with some public transportation, especially if it comes to getting people from MCO to UO, and UO to the new land/Site B.

All this means that a conversation could have been had regarding it, but as of now... no plans to budge.

Keep in mind, Creative/Imagineers are always creating things for fun or even "What if?" scenarios. If we held them creating something to be true, then we would have DC Land. Just comparing for sake of convo.

This isn't a 'for fun' project. This is executives actively trying to shoe-horn GoTG into WDW. They aren't doing that if their hands are legally bound.

GoTG is fair game for Florida. Very little else of substance is, or ever will be, however.

GoTG is technically fair game until Infinity War. Once those films release, they will become apart of the MCU Avengers in essence.

I didn't say this specifically was "for fun". Just saying Creative people are always creating.

And no, GotG isn't.

I'm going to just wait and see on this one. Too much talk for me to just brush it off. We don't know what kind of internal conversations have been had so i'll just wait. If it happens I won't be surprised, if it doesn't, I won't be surprised either.

It's not that I don't believe you, it's just very counter to what a lot of other people are saying these days. Not the overzealous fanboy type either.

Personally, there seems to be a lot more talk from strictly Disney insiders than anyone else. That's my red flag of caution here. (If there is anywhere else, I haven't seen it so...)

But there is a part of me that wants it to happen so this debate can stop.

The other part doesn't because it shows that if they get the rights, they'd rather just do something a la Frozen's forced situation instead of something that GotG deserves.

Fair. Although I wouldn't call a few of them "strictly" Disney insiders.

It's the "strictly" Universal insiders who don't think it will happen, that's more of the red flag.

They don't sit at their desks and spitball and get paid for it.

Menu Planning determines what sort of thing is going where and what sort of budget it has. It can be very vague or very specific.

Then various teams are assembled and they come up with bids - usually lead by the portfolio holders of a given park and sometimes at levels below. "Bluesky" meetings occur to come up with some viable options that meet menu planning criteria. Those are developed further by the teams - either concurrently or competitively depending on how things play out.

Going back to the "menu" part of menu planning - parks buy things from the menu. Yes, it's predetermine to an extent but if facing an E ticket when they can buy 3 C's they might buy the C's and so on and so forth.

Sometimes one team wins and another loses. Sometimes the execs like both but feels one is more profitable and so the second is approved but with a smaller budget (ding ding Mine Train amid the rest of the fantasyland crap).

Sometimes an exec high enough up says give me X ride. That happens too.

But all rides and shows have budgets and so they have to be budgeted from the initial concepts and go through "descope" to bring them in to reality. There's a person whose job it is to make the ride - they are not always the pretty picture person. Pretty picture person will add or remove things or whatever and so concept art is Lies. Always lies.

Designer gets with technical and they hash out costs. Designer has a vague idea of costs and may promise an exec a backwards drop to save a ride during a presentation - while technical direction will research the exac costs of such a thing and be like "well bob, you don't get to have over half of your track and scenes if you want a backwards drop." That's how Maelstrom got built.

So it's all a very complex system of checks and balances and direction and choices. There is no "these meanies won't give us enough money" or "we want to build XYZ but we aren't allowed to."

Note: you're taking the word of Disney insiders who insisted the triangles at the end of Spaceship Earth were screens that just weren't turned on yet. They never were.
