The lack of opening scaremonies (and Arrival-type shows in general) in Orlando is another frustration to me. They seemed to add so much sense of purpose and atmosphere to the events in which they existed (2005-2007). It's a real shame that we couldn't get something very simple like what TBad is describing to kick off the night.

Murdy continues to impress me in terms of the ways he's meaningfully building out and innovating his event. A few years ago, I would've laughed if someone had suggested that Hollywood might be better than Orlando eventually...

At Hollywood, the simple little Opening Scaremonies seen in the video above occur every night. In Orlando, 2005-2007 had shows that featured the event's characters on a custom-built stage (The Terra Throne, The Arrival, and the Carnival of Carnage). Those shows occurred multiple times throughout the night, every night. 2007 was unique in that it had a media-based opening "scaremony" for the media, but it was also open to the public. That only occurred on opening night.

well see now this even makes me want to see it even more...i had a post yesterday about going through HHN archives and looking at pictures of events from 2002 all the way to carnival of carniage and to me even though i didn't have the chance to experience it for myself it seems like HHN then was just over the top!!!!some of the pictures i saw of scarezones and the shoes like the arrival and carnival of carnage were just amazing!!! to me it seems like they were not afraid to fill up space and i believe with these hordes were loosing that sense of space and feels kind of empty??

- - - Updated - - -

i love scarezones and i just hope they realize that these hordes are just not cutting it...i had people tell me from last year event that some night they would not even see all or even most of the hordes...to me that doesnt seem like HHN material...but like i said i could be wrong sense i did not experience it for myself last year

See we're getting the Purge with this. So if you can imagine that initial PA message being about the Purge and then all the Purgers coming out instead of clowns... it would be a great way to start the night. Although if you weren't there for the initial scaremony... maybe it would seem a little random lol

That sounds fantastic. I really would like to check out the event over there in the near future. It seems like Murdy has been doing some awesome things recently. The return of opening scaremonies and the chainsaw chase outs are two things that I'd love to see at our event.

For sure. Something like what I suggested would actually make me a bit excited for The Walking Dead streets which is something that hasn't happened yet. I want some simple immersion to make me feel like the park really is being attacked by "the walking dead".

Absolutely. Hollywood has really transformed their event into something impressive in the past few years. I'd love to see their takes on some original houses eventually because it seems like they could really do some fantastic stuff with it.

I'd really just like to see something similar to this, but with a message about a zombie outbreak in the park with some zombies at the gates instead of clowns. If only :mean::

Just a question if anyone knows:

Will HHN be using facepaint like they have done or are they using, as I called them "The ****ty "Party City/Spirit: Halloween" Plastic Masks" they used in almost ever house last year. The sucked last year.

Fair, if harsh, question. Some stuff looked great (vampires, Pyramidhead & Boogeyman, most Dead End characters, Gothic) some looked rushed (House of Horrors), some (a lot) looked absolutely awful (pretty much the entirety of the hordes, esp. Beasts, Prisoners, and Traditionals; The Walking Dead sans the bunny slipper girl, everyone who wasn't wearing a Cooper mask in that house, most of Penn & Teller).

Unfortunately, early reports are not boding well in terms of budgets allocated to makeup FX and costuming/masks.

From the HHN Facebook:

The appearance on the outside is an illusion on what hides within.

I must have missed those trees in the woods of complete garbage. The makeup is the biggest reason why I'm dreading Walking Dead 2 this year. The makeup, or lack there of and using zombie masks you could probably find at Spirit Halloween was real jarring considering the long profound history Universal has with Horror and Makeup. I was just pissed to no end by the makeup. Plus, the scares for the most part were straight out in the open. The masks take away the ability for the scare actor to interact with the guest and have to rely on the age old magic "trick" of distraction. And, at least in House of Horrors, my favorite house from last year, the distractions worked fairly well in some spots. Others like The Creature, Wolfman, The Walkers, etc. did not have the best distractions or were straight out in the open and that caused me to dislike the houses a lot last year. The other MAJOR problem I had last year revolves around Silent Hill. That would be the MANNEQUINS!!! I went into this house pumped and there were so few scares toes and it full of mannequin Nurses. The only thing I liked about that house was the repurposed "Jack The Clown" block that was there.

I am a little envious because AWiL is MOST famous for that transformation scene and you know A&D has been planning that scene for years. If they pull it off... it'll be something to behold.

Yea, considering how long they've been wanting to do this, I have very high hopes for this house.

I loved the way they handled the transformation in 2009's Wolfman house... if this can match or exceed that, we'd be golden. As I've noted before, this is a pet project for A&D, so you know it's going to potentially be pretty great.
