Yeah, I'm confused about this as well, is Legendary Truth co-opting Horror Unearthed this year and not having a house presence? At one point, I thought there was an LT house and then suddenly it disappeared for the Robert "the Blade" house which is Afterlife. Maybe Resident Evil fell through...

Hopefully. Would rather see an original LT house than another IP house, even if it is RE.

To me, the only benefit of a Resident Evil House will be one less house that I have to visit ...

There's no Legendary Truth house. We knew the least about Afterlife (though if you look through my posts you'll see I've been referring to it as that title long before it was released - for a while it was thought that was the code name which is why I used it, but apparently the actual title slipped in there) so consequently people began shooting for the stars to imagine ideas. All we knew was it involved a prison and an execution of a serial killer. People threw out Legendary Truth since we had a house in 2010 branded that way, for some reason. There was never any legitimacy to that rumor - it was all conjecture.

I sense some short term memory here. Even with bars all around, Finns lines for drinks is waaaaay outta control during HHN on most nights. If they cut back on the outside bars, you wouldn't want to be anywhere near finns or the street it's on.

Ah. Makes sense. I was trying to remember things from earlier posts and my wires must've gotten crossed.

It's definitely an interesting situation. They would lose money, but I think word of mouth would improve exponentially in tourist circles. And HHN no longer needs to carry the resort like it did from 2003-20010. For the record, I don't think the event would ever become dry, but they can do a lot to improve the alcohol situation

HHN will never be a true tourist event. (a) It's the slow season (why HHN was initially created). (b) Most Orlando tourists, especially in October, bring young kids--and no sitter.

Meanwhile, UCF is the largest college campus in the US. Huge number of WDW CPs as well. Those college kids are the ones spending $90 on a single night admission--not the $5 - $10 a night most of us fanbois end up spending. Then they're dropping another hundred on booze besides.

Do I see drunk a-holes at HHN? Of course. I see 15-year-old punk a-holes too. The solution is more security, and selling fewer tickets. Both of which also cost money, so I don't see a true feasible solution to the issue.

BTW, far more likely Dr. Jimmy's hint ties into the "Rum Raisin" SZ, if I had to guess.

This. ^ HHN is still, at its heart, a party, not a horror effects and make-up showcase. Guests want to drink--it's part of the experience.

As to what you said about word of mouth being positive...absolutely not. When UC was courting JK Rowling, they invited her to Horror Nights only to be embarrassed by the amount of alcohol-induces vomit around. In a knee jerk reaction, alcohol sales were suspended for that event (not sure what year). This didnt last long...people were pissed.

As I recall, it was only the Jello shot girls who were canned--Finns most definitely stayed open, and I'm fairly certain the temp bars did as well. I think the embarrassment was as much over the shot girls' attire as the amount of vomit around the park, but this is all based on second-hand information/speculation that has grown into urban legend.

I mean, I obviously wasn't there when they were taking JK around  . I don't have any firsthand information either, BUT I do know someone in Learning & Development at Universal who told me this story. Apparently, he tells it at all orientation classes (maybe for bartending or Food & Beverage or something..? I'm not sure). So this story comes from Universal execs, though they may have grown it themselves into a bit of an exaggeration.

I'm sure Finn's was open though no matter what. It's a moneymaking sit-down restaurant, and it wouldn't make sense to just close the bar part of it. Especially when it's open no problem during the day. When I was told this little anecdote, I imagined the shot girls and makeshift bars were the ones that were suspended.

Universal tried curbing the alcohol problem but when they realized how much money they were missing out on they instantly brought it right back.

Alcohol and Express make up almost all of the in park revenue.

I was working as a Bartender in the park that night. The shot girls were all sent home when they arrived, and all of the temp bars around the park were allowed to have only beer and the pre-made specialty drink (whatever it was called that year). Most of the bartenders were sent home too, as you don't need 3 bartenders to pour beer. The guest reaction was very angry, and it was not a fun night to work. The following event night, alcohol was back, but we had to build partitions inside the bar that "hid" the liquor and drink-making process from guest view. It was a very interesting final few weeks of the event. Shot girls also came back, but with heavy restrictions on what they could wear, which is why the next year they have Universal created costumes to wear.

Thanks for the info! It's good to have solid evidence about this myth that's been going around for years

I'll bet working that night was awful. Like someone else said, HHN isn't for gorehounds and horror fans...I mean, it is, but its primary audience are people who wanna party. I pre-game HHN all the time (but no, I do not act like a drunken idiot, I really do love admiring the houses), and people go there to have fun and drink. Universal even knows this, they make HHN tickets valid for admission to the clubs for crying out loud.

But I like how your post talks more about the guest reaction than the loss of revenue. Even if Universal didn't need to make money, you could almost say that it's their mission to serve alcohol in order to keep up the "Universal Way" of guest service...keeping the guest happy is the first rule of the UOTeam after all! To say that reducing alcohol sales or getting rid of it will ever happen is wayyyyy out there.

This is my 11th year in a row going to HHN, I have NEVER seen a fight, a out of control drunk, someone hurling,or
even some one being arrested/removed. We are there from opening to closing most nights. To hear some of the talk about
drunks all over the park stumbling around you would think that this is not a safe place. It is a party atmosphere , which is
one of the reasons I go.

This would be a good time to push my ideal of a Frequent Beer pass............thoughts?

You're probably the only person to ever not witness stupid people...I think the worse of the drunks are the ones who think they can walk up on a SA and try to scare them. Just makes me wanna shake my head and facepalm.

I've seen some pretty sad stuff at HHN. I've seen physical domestic abuse that ended in a girl's boyfriend being escorted out in handcuffs, I've seen lonely drunk girls left alone by their friends to be found by security and taken out of the event, and I've seen aggressively drunk guys who try to falcon punch scareactors. The fact of the matter is that some people just don't drink responsibly. The sales at HHN would not be a problem if people knew their own limits and abide by them.

Honestly I've never seen anything besides drunk people trying to scare the scareactors..but then again that is something I hear from non-drunk people all the time..it's a way to show masculinity I guess...
The worst drunkeness I have seen would be at Epcot

Sorry if this has already been asked, but is there a scare zone planned for Spring Field?
