I think that some people call wrestling to be soap operas and the way they fight each other as cuddling. I've heard the soap opera thing before
(spandex round boys, wrestling outfits)

Ironically enough,
You could take many of the criticisms about WWE being a soap opera and apply it here because HHN does somethings very similar and has a lot of the same elements thematically.

Listen.

I know that many people do not like wrestling. And that's fine. But you CANNOT deny that the Wyatt Sicks group (yes...it's a whole faction, not just one guy) is a natural fit for HHN.

This group has been begging for a house since they debuted, and the same can be said for Bray Wyatt before them.

Not only will it not feel shoehorned in, it will likely be one of the easier houses to design for this year. Anyone that has an issue with a Wyatt house needs to take five minutes and watch their debut and rethink their opinion.

I think this discussion, and some comments I’ve seen elsewhere, speaks to a lot of fans’ expectation that all HHN houses are narratively deep. It may not even be a fully conscious expectation, but it’s there. I think it’s one reason fans view watching the films/shows prior to going through IPs as a necessity. There’s a belief that—in order to fully appreciate the house—you have to know all the story-based nuances, so you can understand all the easter eggs and characters. For lack of a better term, and a needing a shorthand for that type of fan in this post, I’m going to call them Nerds (non-derogatory).

In that regard, the idea of a WWE house can be unappetizing. Even knowing a house is based on the Wyatt Sicks or the Firefly Funhouse, there’s no clear narrative for it. Do Nerds need to know the entire WWE roster to understand everything? Watch specific matches? How do you “research” a house based on promos and vignettes? Will Nerds need to know about the Demon in addition to the Fiend? How far back will a WWE house? Do Nerds need to know who Mankind, Hugh Morris, or Gangrel are? Even the Weeknd (and Billie Eilish) were easy-to-grasp IPs because the research material was limited to a couple of albums. The WWE is a sprawling, weird universe of its own design. To appreciate the Sicks, you have to appreciate Bray, who has a massive body of creative work himself. For Nerds with no prior WWE knowledge, the challenge of understanding the “story of the house” can be overwhelming.

But, the fact is, most HHN houses are designed to NOT be that narratively deep. Is there a story? Almost always. But even having a story, houses are designed for the vibe to be forefront. Last year’s Insidious is a great example where the vibe was the focus. The reason is that the designers understand most of their guests will walk in with minimal (if any) understanding of a house’s story. Expecting (or worse, requiring) them to do research does everyone a disservice.

So, for the Nerds who just cannot bring themselves to research the WWE (and if this rumor is true), maybe this house can just be enjoyed cold. Don’t try to research it. Just know that WWE does incorporate a lot of horror elements in various stripes and, in myriad ways, can support a HHN house.

Like I mentioned before and what @Legacy just said - if the rumor actually happens, it can easily be enjoyed as an original. (Which in all likelihood, it will likely be treated as an IP original ala UCM)

Crypt Keeper said:
Two of them are terrible tbh. But that’s just me lol.

The IP houses last year had some pretty crazy wait times, so I don’t think Universal cares about the criticism.

Said criticism stemmed from folks wanting certain IPs and straight up expecting them because of “rumors” and internet hype.

I don't know which two you mean, but I am not excited for Terrifier.

Good point. If this rumor is true, and people feel the need to "research", I think you'd be fine with watching the debut (I imagine that's going to be most of the house right there) and the Bray Wyatt documentary (pasted below).

It's actually really well done, and highly rated on Letterboxd.

Bray Wyatt: Becoming Immortal (2024)

The story behind one of the most revered and mysterious characters in WWE history and the man himself, Windham Rotunda, has never been documented, until now.

If there are APs, there's a real chance that EU becomes the locals' "hang-out" spot it seems largely built to be. Absent a strong haunt line-up, I could see that affecting HHN--personal entertainment budgets go to EU because it's the new hotness, not HHN. But there's a lot of what ifs here.

Hoping it happens, but Epcot is a tough park to compete with when it comes to attracting locals. Too strong in the entertainment/seasonal festival space for Epic to battle with.

I think HHN will compliment Epic (both benefiting from each) but unsure how locals feel with being required to pay up full-day prices thus far. Will people pause their Universal APs for a year and just purchase a day at Epic?

I have zero interest in Terrifier or WWE stuff. I also thought House of 1,000 Corpses, Ghostbusters Afterlife and Exorcist Believer would suck...yet they all ended up way up my post event rankings so I'm open for trying anything.

But if there are going to be 12 houses, THIS is the year to have WWE/DemonSlayer/Terrifier/other controversial options as the diehards, like us, who would complain the most can justify it as, "Well, I'm still getting MY 10 REAL HHN houses...these are just bonuses to make the other lines shorter for me."

It's really an opportunity for Universal to have their cake (provide 10 houses that most guests love) and eat it too (bring in new fans who might not have come before...and maybe pleasantly surprise some diehards and open up some new IP options for the future).

I pop in and out of WWE every once in a while so I'm not too familiar with Wyatt Sicks, but I've thought for years that Bray Wyatt's gimmick was HHN-worthy. It has the potential to be one of the creepiest houses ever. It's just a shame he's not around to experience it.

it also depends on how the creative team does the house, how much they include, how many easter eggs and nods, because the creative team could also do a good but generic house that doesn't require too much homework. the house could have the WWE characters but also be "semi original" with everything else.

This WWE rumor has me kinda excited just because it’s unexpected choice of IP.
Does WWE own the image of the performers/athletes? Can universal use any of the WWE personalities ?

And now I'll pretend real hard like I didn't accidently post this on the Hollywood thread first...

I'm only excited about the Fallout rumors at this point, but last year Insidious reminded me that my disinterest in a franchise is in no way tied to how fun a house can be. I'm also hoping this isn't the year I'm finally priced out of HHN. We'll see. I'm a little more nervous than excited for 12 houses at this point.

Definitely a concern that we share. "More Houses Than Ever" is a great reason for a company to jack the prices up significantly.

While I'm sure they'll increase pricing, just like any year, adding two houses (if it ends up true) is a good sign that Universal isn't interested in limiting attendance through price actions just yet. Unlike Disney, which has relied on price increases to curb demand for events that don't change year to year, adding 2 houses is a far better solution to controlling crowds instead of pricing people out entirely. I'm just hoping they can solve the staffing issue.

The rumored Wyatt Sicks house is a cover up for the true horror icon of the WWE :p

Wrestlemania 22 Sport GIF by WWE

all jokes aside, if this speculated house opens the door to a potential Undertaker house, I'm all for it!
