Back to the JP coaster...

I think it’s a testament to the insiders here that we’re even aware there’s a ‘speedbump’ but I’m not alarmed by it.

I’d bet a majority of attractions hit the same bumps on the road but we don’t hear about them. The big thing will be if this issue delays the opening by any significant time.

I think the bumps are more, "hang on a sec, let's make sure this new park is in order first"

Getting back to Jurassic..the thought occurs.

If River Adventure get's a revamp to match World, I would be curious if Orlando got the I-Rex or the I-Rap for the finale of their version. Odds are, it'd be probably I-Re, but I wouldn't mind the Rap to get some time.

When a speedbump was mentioned I was actually hoping the JP Coaster was cancelled/delayed with those resources being allocated instead to a 2020 addition at USF. With F&F getting a chilly reception and the Potter coaster shaping up to be a complete homerun, it doesn't make a lick of sense to give IOA another big attraction. Attendance at IOA will spike once Potter opens and the T2 replacement at the Studios is looking more and more like another misguided downgrade of an aging E-ticket into a stunt show no one wants. It just makes sense to give USF the love at this point and not double down on additions to IOA which is already the superior park.

I'm hoping Jurassic World is now moving back to the new gate as originally planned and Jurassic Park remains with updates to the River Adventure but without the rebranding that Hollywood is getting. Nostalgia is a HUGE asset and I don't understand why they'd want to remove the Jurassic Park branding when they have plenty of room at the other park to do whatever they want.

I don't think JW was ever planned to overlay JP at IOA. I think that was speculation based on Hollywood's getting the JW overlay and rumors of upgrades to IOA's. Both of those can be true without ours becoming like theirs.

Pretty sure we get JW in the new park with the Mega E-Ticket Gyroshphere and the Mosasaurus Feeding Show Stadium.

And about the #Speedbump, I'm not even sure that it's even a speedbump as much as a change of plans to the temp measures to save a little money.

I think having 2 Jurassic Lands is a huge mistake. I'd rather see them go one way or the other.

You just made my day regarding JP at IOA staying JP.

Out of curiosity, can you give any insight into the decision to build another big draw for IOA directly following the Potter coaster while USF gets nothing but a small stunt show? It seems like an odd choice that will cause a pretty drastic attendance imbalance. If F&F was some kind of runaway hit that had the ability to act as a headliner for years to come then I could understand but obviously that isn't the case.

I kinda like the idea of leaving JP alone at IOA while pushing the JW franchise to the new park. Plus if they're going to spend the money, I'd rather have new areas and rides rather than just a slight retheme.

If JW goes into IOA, we’ll never get the gyrosphere ride.

If JW goes into Fantastic Worlds, we’ll get the gyrosphere, probably another coaster, more play areas, maybe another water ride? Plus, it gives the new park another major IP, which I’m happy with.

Tbh, Jurassic Park at IOA has been handled badly from the very beginning. There should have been more rides at the start, Triceratops Encounter failed, the other ride concepts never got built, Universal used the last substancial expansion plot on Kong. JW at FW can become the land that IOA should have had.

Why is having 2 Jurassic lands a big mistake?
  • The rides will be completely different.
  • The aesthetics of the land will be completely different.
  • It's Universal's biggest, longest running, and most recognizable IP.
  • The Jurassic films made a clear demarcation from the "Park" trilogy to the "World" trilogy which should allow the lands to exist peacefully without IP confusion.
Don't forget we have The Wizarding World of Harry Potter spread across two parks which I'd argue is far more confusing that having two different lands based on two completely different versions of a fictional theme park.

If Toy Story can have 2 different shooter attractions in 2 parks at one resort, I don’t see why Universal can’t spread around their gigantic Dino franchise a little.

Maybe just a gyroshere ride and small area as part of a larger monsters themed world at the new park would be sufficient. JW is more a monster movie than JP after after all.

That would be...less bad. Although I'm hearing wildly different reports on what the Gyrosphere ride actually is so

No. Outside of Nintendo and DreamWorks I have no earthly idea what is in Park 3. I was more implying that I've heard the Gyrosphere ride explained 2 different ways:

1) A totally new mind-bending dark ride experience
2) Just Beijing's version of the Spider-Man ride system

I don't agree with the idea that Jurassic Park and Jurassic World are two distinct franchises with vastly different stories and aesthetics. Not only are the JW movies direct sequels to the original films, Jurassic World and Fallen Kingdom are almost loose remakes of Jurassic Park and The Lost World, respectively. Not to mention how much these new films have used nostalgia for the old ones to dramatic effect (poor Brachiosaurus).

Dinos are always going to draw, so I don't think spreading them out across the resort is a problem. But the movies haven't done much to convince me that there's a lot of new storytelling possibilities to be explored with this series.

In my mind, the Gyrosphere ride should be a next-generation indoor trackless dark ride with more dynamic EMV-style movement abilities than current trackless rides (think drastic pitching up to 35° when the Gyrosphere malfunctions). Obviously creative liberties would be made on the vehicles since they'll need at least 6-8 passengers for capacity reasons. While the bulk of the ride would be indoors, it would be presented as if you were outdoors in the animal paddock areas during a bad storm. This would explain the sudden darkness and help make the indoor-as-outdoor concept work similar to Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom.
  • Family thrills
  • Can operate in bad weather
  • Animatronics that aren't open to the elements
  • An evolution of a ride system
  • Opportunities for Dino frights
Your welcome UC!

They are indeed direct sequels but there is a clear distinction between the two trilogies. The storytelling might be similar (and as you pointed out they even share narrative structures) but the aesthetics are absolutely different and the content of the fictional parks are absolutely different. That's really all that matters if we're discussing theme park lands.

I thought Beijing was getting Transformers and a Transformers themed Hulk clone.
