Forgot about this thread, oops. Hopefully this gets them to finally put a Moana attraction/ride in the parks.... crazy we're getting rides for Encanto and Coco before Moana.

A Moana boat ride was pulled at the last minute from D23 2024. But due to Moana 2's box office success, perhaps it will be one of the announcements for Destination D23 2025 or D23 2026.

My first theory on the matter on the matter of why the Moana MK ride was pulled from D23 2024 was due to logistical reasons. The patent that looked like her ship may have been too low capacity. Remember Disney canned the Quinjet Avengers E ticket for DCA due to capacity concerns. So they sent it back to the drawing board hopefully in favor of the Shanghai Pirates ride system.

My second theory is D23 2026 will be light on new announcements in favor of updates from things already announced at D23 2024 and they need one or two new big bombshell announcements and a Moana ride would fit the bill. Then at D23 2028 they can announced at least the first slate of their plans for the second half of the ten year parks plan.

Well, me and my kids (13 and 11 year olds) really enjoyed the film, so I think the target demographic will be happy. I'd give it 4 stars out of 5, being I am not a film critic and my expectations were just for another fun entertaining Moana story, which it definitely was. I cried a few times which is a sign of a good story to me. The main problem was the songs weren't as memorable as the first movie, however I do think they will grow on people with multiple listens, as there was some good ones in there. My kids thought Moana's little sis was adorable and that the bat lady's song was really good, and they were excited about the big change that happened to Moana at the end - without saying exactly what because it's a spoiler. It was clearly setting up for a Moana 3 with the mid credits scene so I think the plot will be stronger in that one as we only just met the villains this time that will feature more in the next one. Moana's boat was a lot bigger for her voyage in this movie so would have higher capacity than her first one if made into a theme park ride!

That's the biggest criticism I've seen is the music isn't very good-- you can't duplicate Lin Manuel Miranda's work without him.

I dislike....so much...like with my soul the excuse that animated films are not for you

Puss in Boots, Frozen, Wreck it Ralph, Kung Fu Panda 1/2, its funny how all these newer classic's made both adults and kids happy and ohhh wait Moana 1 the first film also did...funny how those films didn't need the excuse it was made for kids

Heck even the well it was a TV first falls flat....Monsters at Work is not as well animated because of budget but it has better characters, jokes and a story worth telling.
Besides the music being just.....worst then the first, heck I will go an argue Wish had a better soundtrack. Besides that his film just is boring, predictable and the villain is a jokeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

So I'm sorry but this film is on my list of crap we didn't need but the public will go wild for it because

They could have supported Wild Robot or Transformers both better animated films but this is what they choose to go see.....even with knowing it will be on Disney plus in 3 months this is the film people went out and spent money on.....and then people ask why movies suck now days because movies like this show studios sometimes its more about the IP and timing then quality

There is potential... There is room for a Soarin' (or slightly bigger) sized show building right next to the Indy show building if the tram drop-off, Monorail track, the picnic area and some guest services are reconfigured (I'll get back to all this in a moment)....and if about 20% of Jungle Cruise is reduced through some shortening of route, some tightening of space/scenes (more narrow river channels between cliffs) and some indoor scenes (which would be an opportunity to bring in updated animatronics and special effects (I'll touch on this more below too).

The queue for a Moana "boat simulator" attraction would start at where the Tropical Hideaway is (the old Tahitian Terrace) and then follow a linear path (like Indy) along side the Jungle Cruise, out to the show building.

More details:

TRAM, MONORAIL, PICNIC, GUEST SERVICES: There is likely a lot of reconfiguration in the way guests get to the Disneyland Resort parks from parking in the future due to the Eastern Gateway, Disneyland Forward, and future development (whether hotel, retail, or a third gate) at the Toy Story lot (the old strawberry fields). The sprawling resort will need a re-invented transportation system (e.g., skyway, new People Mover), so change will be coming to the transport modes right outside the Disneyland gates regardless. Regarding the Monorail, specifically, Disney will one day substantially or completely remove the Monorail from the interior of Disneyland when Disney recaptures the 10 acres under the Autopia, Submarines, old People Mover tracks, and Monorail spaghetti bowl. (This area is 8% of the park with two attractions -- Submarines and Autopia -- and the issue is not so much capacity as together they accommodate 4,000 per hour, it's that they are space-hogs that don't create capacity-eating queues, or allow retail, and dining, nor do they drive Lightening Lane revenue, or highlight attendance-driving IPs. So, for example, a World of Frozen with two attractions will only match the hourly capacity on the current rides but will also accommodate up to 4,000 guests in the queues and more in retail/dining, where they will be spending money. The point of all this is that the Monorail's days are numbered inside the park, and therefore as a transportation "system" it will also be likely supplanted.)

The picnic area and guests services can also be relocated, and in fact many of the old ticket booths and other outside-the-park facilities will be relocated and be reconfigured as all the other park access-point changes.

JUNGLE CRUISE: The Jungle Cruise is a "Day 1" attraction and will never go away. But for the amount of space it occupies (around 3 acres, in a tightly packed park) it uses more space than can justified by its throughput (i.e., Piartes of the Caribbean has almost twice the capacity in half the acreage). The land-to-throughput inefficiency of Jungle Cruise is due to the scale...the boat is in a river wider than the boat and guests gaze toward "scenes" that are quite land-intensive, many far away. Meanwhile, the content of the scenes -- the animatronics -- are low-tech due to outdoor suitability. So, it is likely that a physical tightening-up of *some* of the attraction to create more narrow, intimate (and thrilling) scenes, will allow the recapture of some land. Indoor scenes would allow a few more sophisticated animatronics and controlled show lighting and effects, such as the kind of lighting effects happening inside the exploding lift hill of Big Thunder Mountain.

I finally saw this and it’s fine.

I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would; the new side characters didn’t annoy me, I liked the Kakomora this time around, and the songs are pretty good (the bar was set really low after that disastrous score for Wish) but are utterly unmemorable. I’ve listened to the soundtrack twice since and still cannot hum any of the tunes from memory. Not a fan of the Marvel-esque mid credits scene (aka season 2 tease of the former series). Tacky and disappointing design reveal of a major character only seen abstractly in the main movie.

lol

I never want to hear the internet to complain about illumination films or sequels again. DE4 and Panda 4 were kinda crapped on...and no they were not worst films then this they are least TRIED new things and the songs in this film are insanely meh, like Wish has a better soundtrack and will die on that hill

You supported this film to a billion dollars....people just want safe boring movies that they can throw on TV as long as it has some nostalgic value

As theatergoing become less of a regular thing and more of an occasional indulgence, people will naturally move their theatrical dollars towards "safer" movies. That means sequels, brands or the occasional original movie that gets insane buzz and rave reviews. Moana 2 is the former.

It made a billion dollars right now, but it sure feels like pyrrhic victory to me. How much damage did this do to Moana as a character and franchise?

There are six (soon to be seven) Despicable Me films that have mostly averaged a billion dollars, but a second Moana film hitting that same number is what set you off?

It did more damage to Disney as a whole in that it showed they were not above cynical moves like making what should have stayed a D+ series into a full movie so WDAS could have something to put out for 2024. I

I fear Disney and others studios feel emboldened to pull this practice more since Moana 2 raked in the cash big time.
