That would be my guess, with the main rumor being Muppetvision closing and a new Muppet project announced to ease the blow, then the possible "Canary in the Coal Mine" being the location of the new Muppet project makes a lot of sense.

he said it would be "very smart from an IP and revenue perspective."
what could that be?

if it means anything to you, steve was talking about how there were "three attractions on the chopping block" too

I still desperately want “Great Muppets with Mr. Lincoln” to replace Hall of Presidents.

I would also accept “Mission: Pigs in Space” in Epcot, “Kermit-manjaro Safaris” in AK, or “Muppets’ Tower of Tickles” at the Studios.

FWIW, Someone on WDWMagic a while back claimed spotting height balloons behind Muppets. Those were also present behind the ITTAB theater at DCA around fall 2017 before it was shuttered in March 2018 to make way for Avengers Campus. To me that makes it seem like Muppets will go for Monsters.

With construction starting next year, I am going to guess Muppets will shutter at some point during Spring-late Summer 2025 and then we will get an announcement at Destination D23 2025 showing off further concept art of the land as well as confirmation of another attraction if there will be one.

Disney LOVES to pick the worst possible locations for new attractions don’t they?

My only defense for this location, if it is where they choose. In the long term, isn’t it maybe better that Monsters goes here and not AC? If I’m right, there’s a lot more room to work with behind AC than there is here. Monsters Inc land will be a coaster, a possible Laugh Floor type small show, and a restaurant. For what we know right now, it sounds lovely, but that is not that “grand”. If there is more space behind AC, as well as the Lake, I’m fine saving the bigger projects for those spots.

I say that not trusting Disney, but am throwing that out there.

Perhaps what replaces AC will be in the second half of the 10 year plan Disney laid out for the parks. If so the earliest we would hear about it would probably be D23 2028.

That seems to be the path. I worry, as phase 2’s are cursed. Idk if this happens as planned. But whatever it is,
It probably is something much bigger than monsters. As for the future of the muppets themselves, what is being said is “ Monsters is replacing Muppets. But I still think Muppets will be in the parks, both short term and long term.” (Lentesta) I dunno the truth in that statement, but I realistically could see some landing spots that the muppets could end up at. Wether any of them end up happening is a mystery.

Muppet-Vision would be a huge loss for the offerings and history of both DHS and The Muppets brand in general. It's a show that can only exist in-person, and takes advantage of every trick in the theme park show book. It's a tad bit dated, as 3-D shows have lost quite a bit of their wow factor as of the past few decades, but my hope is that if they remove the current Muppet-Vision, that a move to a new more permanent location comes shortly after a la Festival of the Lion King when Avatar moved in.

I'm not normally a "Disney Museum"-type evangelist, but that's mostly because Walt Disney himself had his hands on a lot of the park. Losing one specific touch or offering wouldn't meaningfully reduce his legacy within the resort called "Walt Disney World". I believe Jim Henson to be one of the most illuminous creatives to see the modern screen, and his works are currently partially owned by the Disney company. Muppet-Vision is the only bit of his legacy left in the modern parks, and I think it'd be an absolute shame to lose that forever for a Pixar property that is already represented in another WDW park. I've said it before, but for Seaworld Orlando to show more understanding and reverence for the Jim Henson Muppet IP than WDW is just sad.

Unfortunately, I also believe MV's plot is the better choice than AC. The offices need some more time to be moved around, that area deserves a more significant expansion, and needs to finally complete the loop over by the McQueen soundstage. None of that would be offered with Monstropolis, which over by Muppet-Vision would hopefully match (MV, Rat Pizza -> Laugh Floor, Harryhausens) and expand on it (Door Coaster).

Losing Muppet*Vision would be, all by itself, a major creative loss for the park, because it's a great attraction.

And even beyond that, replacing an easily-accessible attraction with a ride that has a higher barrier to entry would be a major, major mistake for this park. Hollywood Studios needs more things for guests to do -- quality things -- that do not require waiting for an hour-plus or paying an upcharge to skip the line.

We don't know for sure that Monstropolis, were it to go into the Animation area, would prevent additional expansion back there (there is a lot of room if all/most of the buildings go away) or the creation of the connection over to Sunset.

So I remain generally against holding onto the Animation plot for something bigger/better, because:

1. We don't know when -- or even if -- that expansion would ever happen.
2. I don't want Zootopia, which seems to be the favorite rumor at this point.

Putting Monstropolis there does much more good for the park, in my view. It would expand the park NOW, would allow Muppet*Vision to continue to fill a niche that the park needs, and would keep open the possibility of additional expansion adjacent the Monsters in the future.

MuppetVision 3D is the last project Jim Henson directly worked on before his death and personally, I find it gross that Disney has plans to replace it. I love the Muppets and the newer films are great, but they just aren't the same without Jim Henson's touch. A new home for the Muppets doesn't sound like a good trade-off.

Hollywood Studios has already lost quite a bit of its history over the last decade and I think removing one of the last remaining pieces is a horrible idea. Like @belloq87 mentioned, MuppetVision hits a certain niche that the park needs. There's nothing else like it at DHS.

If Monsters, Inc. is in fact closing, I wouldn't mind them moving over to Epcot's Magic Eye theater. Figment & The Muppets are a decent pairing and justifies spending money on improving that pavilion.

Muppet + Figment merch and a permanent "Muppet Labs" lounge/snack stand will do enough business.

This won’t happen, but I kinda love this idea. It works on a lot of levels, would add another show to Epcot’s already more relaxing lineup. Locals would go nuts for this as Epcot is already the vibes park. I’d support this if we must change its current location.

I've had the same thought ... the theater would need a few tweaks because you don't want to lose Statler and Waldorf for example, but the show could tie neatly into the concept of imagination / experimentation and Muppets could take over the merch shop up there.

But the fact that it makes decent sense means it's probably completely off the table.

The issue with moving the show someplace else is that it really does require bespoke show infrastructure within the theater itself.

But in theory, I don't hate the idea of the Muppets as part of the Imagination pavilion.

Also extremely on board with relocation to Imagination. (And they're clearly  never going to do anything meaningful with that pavilion in our lifetimes - it's probably the safest spot in the whole resort.)

I'm genuinely curious though - for those saying it's wrong to remove the show for its historical significance, how many more years would be an appropriate run before calling time on it? 10? 30? 200?

Not being facetious - genuinely curious about opinions.

This sucks.... but at least the Muppets are staying in the park?

Edit: maybe they can put Muppet Vision in the Lightning McQueen Academy space or somewhere else. I don't think they're going to completely get rid of it at the parks, it'll probably return just in another area or maybe a different park like Magic Kingdom.
