Why not, gonna post it here too, some subtle changes that for the most part, shouldn't require much work but I think would enhance the ride experience much more:

Loved it. Rode it four times. Everything I wanted it to be. Hopefully we get the Gill Man ride down the line.

I've seen several children absolutely terrified before and after this ride, and heard screaming from all ages while on the ride. While it's not "scary" to me, it's hard to get me scared anywhere... but for the general population, I think it's at the right level.

However, I wish the land itself had some opt in scary areas. I would love an HHN style walk through / scare-zone attraction at Darkmoor. This would also be a cheaper way to alleviate concerns about the land being the smallest and give adults (and brave children) something a bit more intense.

Hearing the 2nd preshow now has a curtain that opens for the Monster to make the reveal more dramatic.

I’ve watched the POV so many times. Cant shake this ride in the best kind of way. The land as a whole.

I went on it four times today, once standby and thrice on single rider. I need to give Ministry more rides, but this ride really truly blew me away as the MVP of the park. My first ride had me jaw-agape for the entire duration with subsequent rides reinforcing the chaotic goodness this brings to the table. The blending of animatronics with screens is flat out awesome, and I didn’t notice much behind the scenes tech peeking into the scenes. I also love how different it feels to ride compared to Forbidden Journey; the ride vehicle’s jolting relative to character actions is just awesome and fun. I can’t wait to go on the ride more this week, and I’m glad I’ve basically seen it in nearly fully operational mode (the last Dracula animatronic didn’t work on any rides today, and the first Wolf Man animatronic wasn’t working on my last ride).

That's great! Before that one could make him out standing awkwardly in the dark if you knew where to look. Pulling back a curtain for that reveal is an awesome improvement.

Can confirm - there is a curtain in preshow and a limb above the Creature.

And it seems they’ve added lily pads around Gilman to hide the mech stuff.

These are all good signs that they're using the pre opening to correct inadequate settings/backgrounds/effects. Maybe they'll even fix the Werewolf ending scene.

I just left dang it. But you don’t know how proud and happy this makes to hear this, I really thought it was as is because we’re so close to opening, gives me hope about the minor things.

I kinda think at least some these things were going to happen anyway, but I do agree some things need living test dummies to work things out.

So I went Friday and Sunday last week. Monsters was nothing short of amazing. You do not realize from povs how huge the bots are until you ride, jaw was on the floor. Gosh I hope that ending Dracula gets fixed it just would really be the cherry. Queue is amazing and the setup is just flawless to me. I was very puzzled with the initial thought of a Victoria Frankenstein, but I’ll tell you now it feels like it was always supposed to be that way. That “OPEN THE DOORS” gets me every time they absolutely nailed everything honestly. The movement into the scenes is just perfect. My only nitpick was there were a few times that the arms for the figures were like very obvious for a second in a few scenes, in the first Dracula scene I just pretend the arm is a part of Victoria’s machine :lmao:.

The “OPEN THE DOOR!” And “YGOR, take control of their machine.” Fires me up.

Just rode for the first time. FANTASTIC ride. It’s honestly a little slower paced and dare I say more “chill” than I was expecting (compared to say, FJ), but the atmosphere and set design is off the charts. The more methodical pace lets the ride breathe a bit more with tons of different scenes, and it really feels like riding though an action movie. Ygor taking control of the vehicle at the start is hype, and the figures are really impressive. Honestly didn’t notice the curtains or AA arms that much from the far right seat (when facing the vehicle), and the Dracula finale could be punched up a bit with effects to make it a bit more clear what’s happening there imo, but overall this is a huge winner. Insane vibes on this one, and I gotta ride this more to see everything.

Edit - after riding twice more I think an easy fix would be to increase the volume of the dialogue. It’s not too difficult to hear in the first couple scenes, but it gets muddled after all hell breaks loose.

The ride as a whole should be louder I think to really emphasize that all hell has broken loose, and of course the dialogue should still be loud and clear through it. I've said it before, Dracula's laughs especially need to be louder, Matt Adreus (the voice actor) absolutely KILLED it.

Not only a very good evil laugh, but a genuinely intimidating one, and really all of Drac's lines are the ones in most need of getting turned up and/or made clearer (like the fact that it's him talking in the mummy's tomb, which is not clear at all (nor what he's even saying!)).

So I rode four times total today. Time for a thought vomit:

-I really, really like how much this ride takes its time setting things up. I don't mean the queue and preshows, but actually on the ride. I want to say about a quarter of the ride's runtime is build up before Dracula gets loose, and it's a breath of fresh air that harkens back to Spidey's long buildup to the action as opposed to rides like FJ, Transformers and Gringotts which go nearly to 11 shortly after the ride starts. The atmosphere from the moment the RV "takes off" is fantastic with the darkness, loud mechanical creaks, Skull Walls™, Victoria's narration, and the Ygor scene. Then you have Hunchback and Phantom just being a couple of chill guys before the experiment starts and the ride kicks into gear. I'm not sure what to call the room with the Phantom and Victoria AAs, but the scale is outstanding and it's immediately an S-tier dark ride scene for me, like on the level of Indy's main temple room and Rise's AT-AT room. Love the kinetic energy here with the Phantom's fire and the electrical tubes.

-It's crazy how different this feels from FJ despite using the same ride system (albeit with a different way the arm attaches to the vehicle). FJ feels floaty and sometimes graceful, while Monsters is more sudden, forceful and jerkier (in a fun way). Some people might not like it, but being able to see other RVs before Dracula escapes is fair game imo since they've already shown you basically the full RV in the preshow, and seeing one clearly in front of you in their Ygor scene helps to contextualize everything you're about to go through. I dig it.

-The Ygor scene. Why do I love it so much. Why is it so hype. Why is his dumb little flashlight so great. Forget the RV, I would let this guy take control of my life.

-This ride does something really interesting with its screens. Instead of a scene just being a screen and that's it, the RV will often move you in such a way that your POV is following a set of screens where characters are transitioning between them. Think the Wolfman jumping from screen to screen, or Victoria running from one screen to another in the Mummy scene. And these transitions happen FAST. Not as different scenes, but as all part of the same scene. It can make certain ones not feel like your typical screen scene since the same scene can flow through multiple points of interest that the RV guides your view toward as you're moving forward along the ride path. On a similar note, the way the electricity tubes fire up one by one and form a chain as your RV moves by them before the experiment scene really hypes me up lol. Absolute boss execution on this stuff as it's synced very well with the RV's movement.

-That being said, the screens are likely the weakest part of the ride. I'm not against screens in general, but I think it's really hard to pull off seeing a physical AA of a character with limited movement, and then later seeing the same character on a screen doing crazy stuff like Frank grabbing and frying Wolfman with the electrical cable. Rides like Spidey don't have this issue because you only see the characters in one way as projections, so it sticks out more to me on something like Monsters that uses both. Because of this I'd likely say the first third or so of this ride is my favorite due to how everything is consistently portrayed, but the rest is still a great time.

-In both my first run around noon and my last run around 6:30pm, it didn't seem like the ride deteriorated at all - yay? All AAs were still working from what I could tell, including the preshow AAs and finale Drac. Now that I'm going back and reading this thread without feeling guilty, I'm seeing that there's apparently supposed to be a water effect at the first Wolfman AA, though it wasn't working in any of my rides today. Not sure what else wasn't working in terms of smaller sensory effects and such.

-In terms of effects, possibly the biggest room for improvement imo would be the sunbeams in the final third. I don't feel like these are synced or firing off super well to convey what they're trying to. Like when the bride gets cooked it just kind of happens, and then you see a beam off to the side instead of it actually hitting her to start that animation - same with finale Drac. Hopefully these are being fine-tuned.

-There be some curtains in this ride. Hoping they can clean this stuff up slightly as it feels like the ride's environments are like 95% there.

-Which seat you gets seems to matter a decent amount. Maybe I was just looking the wrong way, but on my first ride in the far-right seat (when facing the vehicle) I barely caught Gillman, while all of my other rides in the far-left seat pointed me directly at him. Left seat also feels a bit more intense motion-wise.

-The ride feels long. POVs seem to clock at around a very typical four minutes, but it feels like you super get your money's worth here compared to something like Gringotts. Pacing is great, and again the intro sequence before the Drac escape lets you kinda vibe with the world for a good bit before all hell breaks loose. Though the ending is a bit sudden - maybe a slightly longer ride back to the station and different music would help a bit? Not something they could easily fix, but I also don't see it as being a huge issue.

-More of a question, and pardon me if I'm being dumb, but in the queue we ascend to the second floor of the manor and seemingly stay there until we board the vehicles, but the ride takes place in the catacombs beneath the village? I think the team that built this is too smart to not catch this, so I was just wondering if that feels weird to anyone else.

Likely forgot some stuff but yeah. Four rides was not enough - I need more! Love it.

Great review and great read.
  • THIS ALL THE WAY!!! The ride doesn't go 0-100 right off the bat and does a great job building the atmosphere and world-building, while also rising that tension of seeing Dracula. Rise does this well with the buildup to seeing Kylo Ren, and Spider-Man with seeing the Sinister Syndicate. As you put perfectly, it's one of the main problems with Transformers and Gringott's, with very little buildup and instead opting to start chaos immediately.

  • It's insane that despite being the same ride system as FJ, it really does feel like a completely different ride type, as opposed to Transformers and Spidey.

  • Agreed on the screens being the weakest part. They're implemented well but I do think there's just a few too many, mainly in the final sequence.

  • Fantastic to hear finale Drac is working again!

  • Agreed. Thankfully from what I've been told and seeing in POVs, the timing for the sunlight beams and where they shoot is slowly but surely getting better.

  • I'm desperately hoping the black curtain after Dracula escapes is just covering an unfinished themed wall, because it really is inexcusable in what is otherwise a flawlessly designed ride environment.

  • Through my 8 rides, I can confirm that all-around the left seat (far-right when facing vehicle) is the seat for getting the best-possible look at everything.

  • And yeahhhhh just try not to think about it, it hit me on my last ride of second preview day lol. It's like how Tower of Terror's queue sends you straight into the basement despite just being in the lobby (albeit that could be chalked up to supernatural shenanigans).

Might be worth mentioning that the ride closed early today per a sign that was up at the entrance of the ride and the land from park open. Should hopefully give them extra time to tune things.
