Agreed but, if the buildings come from the movie setting (eg. Coruscant), the right immersion can occur. They just need to be free with the paint bucket. Even concrete fades.

An "insider" on a certain other site is now reporting that WDW's version of the land is going to open at least 18-24 months after Disneyland's version. I find that rather pathetic.

Wouldn't that be expected, given that the Disneyland version already has so much more progress on its prep of the site?

I think people were expecting a year later.

We've all known that WDW's is behind Disneyland's, but it's almost impossible to fathom it's THAT FAR behind. Then again, I guess nothing's impossible where Disney construction is concerned.

And, I thought the decision to move the site to the LMA area was to speed up the construction timeline. If the sped-up timeline results in an opening a year-and-a-half after Disneyland's, what the heck was the original timeline?

Yeah, seems like there's a complete lack of urgency at DHS. Not only SWL but also TSL. Talk about taking your good old time.

Exactly. It should be DHS' version that Disney is flying at lightspeed to get finished first. Disneyland doesn't "need" the addition the way that DHS desperately does. The park is terminally ill right now.

I guess I've just become so accustomed to the pathetic speed in which Disney World constructs basically anything. I'm less shocked and just more disappointed.

Either Team Disney Orlando execs are protecting their bonuses until they retire or they think they can continue to fool people into coming to the park to see a Star Wars semi museum/M&G and lame stage show that they advertise like it's the SWL expansion.

It's going to be fascinating next spring when Star Wars Celebration comes to Orlando. I'm assuming Disney will provide more details about the theme park stuff at that time, but I wonder what the reaction of the crowd - which will likely be populated by more than a few WDW locals - will be when it becomes apparent that Disneyland is getting the preferential treatment and all the cool stuff first. Not great optics.

Disneyworld seems focused on building their DVC rather than in park attractions. They have a couple of new DVC buildings being built right now, and IIRC they announced another a bit ago

I don't know. What was the reaction when Orlando got the cool HP stuff first before CA? I mean I don't think they need to open at the same time. Also, it makes sense. CA is not building a lot of stuff right now where WDW has Avatar and TSL coming before SWL. The who gets it first thing is silly, but if WDW delays this thing a huge amount of time, that I can see being a problem with future projects. Latest this should open is 2020, so that they can move on to Epcot.

ETA: When I say 2020 I mean spring 2020, not late 2020.

I don't mind if we're a little behind CA.. just think of the upgrades Forbidden Journey has over Orlando's version (even though they're somewhat minor, I still wish we had them here). We will probably be getting a few upgrades from their park version

Well, that's a little apples-to-oranges. The HP stuff was never announced for both coasts at the same time, nor were there large conventions in one of the resorts' back yards to hype what was coming to the other. And yes, I'm Florida-biased, so I don't really care what people in California thought about Orlando getting HP stuff first! I own my double standard in this narrow case! ;)

As to your other points, they're valid to a degree, but WDW has a long history of multiple huge projects being underway at once. This shouldn't be anything new for them, or some kind of snag that slows things down. If they wanted to build things fast, they have the ability. They don't appear to want that, however.

While I generally agree that futuristic architecture doesn't stay futuristic looking for long, there is a charm to "retro-future" or the future that never was. Also, the MiB building is designed to look retro futuristic based on the architecture of the 1964-65 New York World's Fair.

I'd like to remind everyone that when all the discussion of the Star Wars Land began people bashed my assertion that the DHS version would debut 2020/2021. With no dates being given and the lack of progress does anyone want to make a prediction now? :p

To be perfectly honest, I had the feeling that DHS may have to wait more than a year. Am I upset, yes. Considering how much Universal constructs, Disney should be doing it faster but here we are.

Per Martin, end of 2019 or first half of 2020 at the latest.

When has Universal ever built 3 LANDS at the same time? When has either park ever done that? Right now they are building TSL, SWL, and Avatar. If they add in Epcot at some point after Avatar they will still have 3 in the works. I understand WDW needs it because they did nothing for years and even after this is done they will need more. But the speed of construction if they open a LAND in 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2021 (if Epcot rumors are true) is pretty incredible. That is a lot of construction at once when Teebin has already alluded to the fact that contractors are stretched to their max right now with Disney, Universal, and Sea World world wide projects going on right now.

I have heard these dates a lot. Not sure if it is the same rumor making circles or if this is from multiple sources.
