I'm asking this more rhetorically (because I know this is all just speculation), but why is it that Disneyland is going to be able to get their version open within 2 - 3 years from now, while we could be looking at 4.5 - 5 years from now? Disney management just wants it that way? TDO didn't fight for (or even desired) a more aggressive timeframe?

Why even bother to announce both coasts' lands at the same time, then? They could have announced Disneyland's last summer at D23, then waited until the 2017 D23 to announce Orlando's. It all just seems odd to me. Announcing them together, rightly or wrongly, creates the perception that they're twin projects that are inextricably linked. Their claim back whenever it was that both lands had "broken ground" (when, in reality, we were seeing coverage exclusively from Disneyland's construction site) was clearly meant to further their intended perception that both projects were moving along parallel tracks.

Even with the land cleared at DL, they still have ROA/train work to do before most of SWL gets fully underway. DHS is about half done with demolition for the site. LMA should come down quick whenever they finally get to it and then there's not much but some facades to take down after that.

I realize it seems that DHS is incredibly far behind, but when you look at the reality of where each project is at, DHS isn't nearly as far behind as many want to make it. I'd say 6-8 months.

My guess is that TDO wanted to drag the costs out. Bonuses being based on profits etc. Supposedly, as I said before, TDO resisted paying for a third SWL attraction (per Magic Insiders), thus the two attractions for both SWL...... Either that, or Burbank wants to drag the openings out over a longer time frame, once again for cost reasons....

How much of a difference is there building in Orlando Vs Anaheim?

I'd imagine the main issues for Orlando would be the high water level, tornadoes and possibly weather vs earthquake protection on the west coast.

Because Anaheim is shortening the ROA, only slightly; they have to re-route their Disneyland Railroad, make new facilities for some of the Fantasmic! floats, and also have a new path from Critter Country to get to the new Star Wars Land.

And of-course, there is Star Wars Land itself. Why I say that is that there will be a lot of people either A.) LOVING IT, because it potentially adds a new location in the Universe; or B.) HATING IT, because it doesn't have certain things that made them a Star Wars fan.

I think the short answer is that Disney just does not know what they are doing anymore.

Behind TSMM? Like for TSL? Yeah, it's 100% demoed and as I just posted, foundation work is getting underway soon. Demolition has been pretty complete back there for awhile. Next to go is the SWL area.

EDIT: Here's a June 24th aerial:

Just a few days later, the creative costuming building behind TSMM was coming down:

If I read this right we are getting two new Star Wars rides instead of three and losing the old one. Years of stalling and years of constructions for a net gain of one ride? :curse:

That's the way it sounds like it will be... eventually. There are a few saying Star Tours is likely safe at WDW through the 5oth at least. Let's also not forget that both DHS and DL will have expansion for a 3rd ride in the land if they choose to do that eventually.

While I hate to lose ST, it's a jumbled mess. It doesn't seem like we'll actually lose the ride-system at the moment and it will just be rethemed.

We are losing one. However, the more I think about it, if they kept that one it would be really outdated and not fit into the new land. I think re-theming the Star Tours to something else makes more sense all around.

I'd hope it gets turned into something completely new as the ride tech feels extremely dated now.

Honestly bulldozing it and building something new would likely be the better choice for the park, but Disney will probably make a budget decision and stick a new film in the same ride.

Star Tours is staying, just not staying Star Wars.

I have heard Zootopia with Flash being the "Bus" driver.

But that will most likely change before they get around to it.

In a perfect world, but honestly Disney has bigger fish to fry. They need to get SWL and TSL done and then move on to Epcot, then come back to DHS and do another phase. They have huge issues and I would be OK with them re-theming Star Tours for now if it meant moving on to fixing the huge holes they have in Epcot and then later the leftover holes in DHS.

What? I thought Disney was practically perfect in every way. Now you're telling me they have "issues"?

Yes, but she hated animated penguins, so what does she know.
