The fact that they're more concerned with a rock than the exposed show building or painting the dragons is just a little wierd to me...

Doubtful. If it wasn't a priority when it opened it probably won't be now. There are exposed show buildings littered all across theme parks. It's not possible to hide every single one. To a certain degree, this is a "Be Happy With What You Have", scenario because it's doubtful it's going to complain unless it seems cost effective to Universal.

Exactly. This satisfied all parties involved. They are making a gazillion dollars. They have really only focused on construction of crowd control issues, and at incredible expense. FJ, Ollivanders, and finally, the stage. This was all stuff created to improve guest experience, and boy did it need it.

Maybe I worded it poorly, but the exposed shoebuilding of FJ from Hogsmeade and the greenhouse is far more egregious than this stage pillar.

And these seemingly have easy fixes. Yet they don't seem to care.

I'm on the same boat. That's why this monolith business perplexes me. There's these other obvious details that are definitely shortcomings of an otherwise incredible themed land, and they've been there for long, sticking out, and nothing was done about it. Yet, here is this monolith that is getting facelift after facelift, like a Real Housewife of Orange County, FL... Pretty perplexing. Especially when Hogwarts is THE focal point and main photo subject in the area... not this stage phallus :look:

It seems pretty obvious to me that some Art Director is on a power trip.

I see it this way:

The rock is behind a stage that people are going to be staring directly at everyday.

The FJ show building is something that nobody except some members on this site really notice.

I'd very much disagree there. The thing hangs over you in a lot of spots.

I'm sorry, but a rock is a rock is a rock

If the land was perfect, then fine! But even the little bit money this is taking could be put to use somewhere else. It wasn't like the thing was made poorly, and needed to be redone. It could have served the same purpose in its previous state.

I see it from a different angle: The Art Director knows his power and responsibility. :blank:

I mean, I'm not claiming I know better. I don't. Both artistically and cannon wise. But I can tell you that as an average Orlando tourist, i.e. no formal artistic training and very vague Potter knowledge, that what was there before was absolutely fine.

Especially when he has to report to the one. No exceptions, this is how I want it. And that's that...

Try putting a cloud over your head of absolute FINEST. One has to get an idea in their head of what they expect... and if it isn't what they were hoping for... what they expected... then it just isn't right. I've been there... I understand and respect where Alan is coming from.

I get why he, as an artist, might not be totally happy with the final product. But I'm sure this can't be the only project from Phase I with such lingering feelings. Who knows, maybe other things will be addressed in the near future. But as fan, and most definitely as tourist, it's an odd thing to see being harped on.
