Lol is it just me, or was the one before this better? Im not crazy about the fake moss. Also, if anyone has any free time/the pics, can someone make a side by side comparison of the three monoliths please?

I believe these are the three stages, photos from frenzy88, amusement pics, and enbee, respectively.

It's not bad, it just looks kind of weird...almost like a painting got wet and the paint smeared all over it.

Wow, they really banged up the chroma! It isn't any taller, nor has the shape changed. Only the details of texture. Interesting that the 2010 and the 3 week ago version were virtually identical in coloring and this final version bares no resemblance to either. That or the photographs are misleading.

So JK/WB were so concerned about the color? I can see why maybe they wouldn't want holes in it or those strange patterns. But all this drama for the slight darkening of color?

Yeah I think you can see a progression tho with the color. The first one is light, the second is a bit darker with a hint of staining, the last is dark with a lot of staining. But it could be a bit misleading because the last picture as a whole looks darker like it was in the shade or the sun wasnt out

Thanks LittleRed. Despite all of the runes on the first one, I feel like it looks the most natural/realistic and in tone with the rock work that surrounds the area. HTF do you think well ever find out what they didnt like?

The first version of the stone was a pictish: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pictish_stones

The new version looks closer to the stones seen at the entrance of FotH: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/1a/HippogriffCoaster.JPG/200px-HippogriffCoaster.JPG

This final version was completed with the nod of AG.

Ok, we knew that AG was responsible, but you speak as though you have first person knowledge of this revamp... as if you were on site?

Not directly involved with the project. I share spaces where information is shared, sometimes liberally. Allegedly, AG was indisposed during the completion of stone 2.0. Not a sand hill crane, but another avian.

Bad timing I'd say between permit approvals, holiday peak, and a visit from Burke (not the one from Knockturn).

I do like the large shaled off section of the right stone. That is a big change.

It does look better in the light, and I do like the aged look, but it does look weird in contrast to the fresh brickwork and wood near it.

But I do like it.
