I thought they have started demo work and will start construction before the end of the year, no?

They are working on demo...still no ground breaking on new construction.

TSPL 2018/19 and SWL 2020/21

They may WANT to open them sooner, but all Disney projects run over time and budget.

At least they are consistent:D

I wonder, when a project time frame is given to the board of directors, do they laugh or actually believe it?

It always seemed to me that Disney was more willing to budget money than WDW was willing to spend it. WDW hates seeing itself as anything other than obscenely profitable.

Oh sure. The Magic Insiders are constantly telling stories of how Burbank had to force Team Disney Orlando to build a new attraction. The story is also circulating over there (Magic) that Burbank wanted three rides in SWL, but TDO pushed against paying their share.....I think one of the main problems is that executive compensation is so tied to profits. Those people at TDO just don't want their fat bonuses cut.

Definitely agree tying bonus to profits can be counterproductive long term. After all, who wants their bonuses cut?

So 12-18 months after Disneyland instead of 18-24 months. Still not good, but better(ish). I still want to know how much time Disney thinks they gained by moving the site to LMA and the backlot, and if it even was actually motivated by a desire to get the land opened quicker, or something else.

Summer 2018 and Early 2020 are the targets for TSL and SWL. No reason that TSL should miss that date imo, SWL on the other hand... Eh, we'll see.

I keep hearing two competing rumors and one is what you said with some giving an internal optimistic date of late 2019 for SWL. That they would like that, but think the more realistic is early 2020.

The other rumor is always 2019 for TSL and 2021 for SWL.

Normally when getting rumors from two different sources they can be different, but it is interesting that the dates are so off. I would think everyone in Disney would be on the same page. So what I think is happening is that you have the initial dates and then those dates got changed. I tend to believe the 2018/2020 are the more recent dates because we have also heard grumblings that when they changed the location it was to speed up the timeline. So I am thinking the 2021 rumors come from the old location when more infrastructure changes was needed.

And of course, all dates are estimates, even internally, since issues happen, and they can certainly change timelines. I would think whatever internal target date for Toy Story Land is more likely to happen than the SWL internal target date. TSL should be a fairly straight forward build. I would guess SWL will end up missing it's internal target date. Somewhat new tech and a complicated build is bound to have issues. So while I think TSL will be middle of 2018 to early 2019, SWL is going to be late 2020 to 2021, to be realistic. And again, Disney sure doesn't seem very energetic in getting either land moving....At this stage of the game, all of our guesses are just that, guesses, insider or non insider.

Agreed. Just like Kong, we can have the insider of the day for who has the correct guess. lol Of course by the time this rolls around we will all have forgotten about these guesses

There's simply no reason it should take until 2019 for TSL. Permits have already been filed for foundation work - This isn't a tough build. 2018 seems perfectly in line with where i'd expect this at.

Behind TSMM? Like for TSL? Yeah, it's 100% demoed and as I just posted, foundation work is getting underway soon. Demolition has been pretty complete back there for awhile. Next to go is the SWL area.

EDIT: Here's a June 24th aerial:

Just a few days later, the creative costuming building behind TSMM was coming down:

I am going to hope you are being sarcastic, because I obviously did not mean entire parks. Both Uni and Disney have done their fair share of new parks worldwide. You can't compare what I am talking about which is add on lands to full parks.

I'm asking this more rhetorically (because I know this is all just speculation), but why is it that Disneyland is going to be able to get their version open within 2 - 3 years from now, while we could be looking at 4.5 - 5 years from now? Disney management just wants it that way? TDO didn't fight for (or even desired) a more aggressive timeframe?

Why even bother to announce both coasts' lands at the same time, then? They could have announced Disneyland's last summer at D23, then waited until the 2017 D23 to announce Orlando's. It all just seems odd to me. Announcing them together, rightly or wrongly, creates the perception that they're twin projects that are inextricably linked. Their claim back whenever it was that both lands had "broken ground" (when, in reality, we were seeing coverage exclusively from Disneyland's construction site) was clearly meant to further their intended perception that both projects were moving along parallel tracks.
