Music. I know there are sound effects dating back to those games.

There’s tons of stuff from throughout the series history. But specifically for the NES and SNES games, I believe the Mario 3 and Mario 2 ground themes play on the Note Blocks. Super Mario World’s credits theme plays in a few locations (like when you leave the land) and I believe the Castle theme plays inside Bowser’s Castle.

I can’t confirm this sinceI haven’t found footage of people going inside, but I’m pretty confident the slot machine room will play the Mario 2 character select theme. And of course, you have the Classic Mario underground theme in the tunnels.

If that's the story I'm confused what the cohesion problem is.

But "Find the eggs" is not a story. It's a concept. The ride is not a story. It's a scavenger hunt and we travel through a series of tableaus that allow us to finish that scavenger hunt.

The cohesion problem is setting. Yoshi’s Island has a different setting than 3D World (a game he isn’t even in). As Alicia pointed out, this was probably done because most of the ride is outside, and the land has a 3D World aesthetic. The ride could have used another interior section, but it’s not the end of the world. Just a critique to keep in mind for future attractions

If the ride was a Yoshi's Island game, maybe you'd have a point. It's not. The official description of the ride is as follows:

"Hang on to Yoshi as you search for Captain Toad on a treasure hunt! Get a spectacular view of the Mushroom Kingdom from Mount Beanpole while having fun on this ride that's perfect for the whole family."

It's a Yoshi ride set in the Mushroom Kingdom. So even if this was something any normal guest would question (it's not), they have their base covered

I think perhaps it's not cohesion that's the problem, then. Maybe it's just the satisfaction of payoff. I think even Storm Force has a satisfying ending. But that, of course, is simply my opinion. I think the detour into Yoshi's Island is probably necessary, but I think perhaps the weakest part of the attraction not only in design, but also because it just comes out of left field. Again, a personal opinion, I think this sort of a light story is captured in a more satisfying way in different Universal C-tickets.

I mean, I disagree, I think it's a story. It's just as much a story as Hondo telling you he needs coaxium(?) for "reasons" and shipping you off. Though I don't speak Japanese, I imagine Toadette delivers this information as Hondo does. Yoshi just does it with economy of space and trust that you are smart enough to figure it out.

But the queue is set on Yoshi’s Island, and the interior scene is taken straight from the YI games.

Not to mention, Mount Beanpole is in the Sprixie Kingdom, not the Mushroom Kingdom (but that is a huge nitpick since it fits with the aesthetic of the land).

You're entire point is a huge nitpick that absolutely no regular guest will ever think of, but you do you, man.

On the subject of music in the land, has anybody heard any newly-orchestrated versions of cues from the NES or SNES games so far (outside of the main Super Mario Bros. theme)?

I’d love to hear the title theme from SMW.

The MK queue has tonnssss of detail that will help us throughout our 2 hour waits for this thing, that I think is something that will be really underrated maybe initially when lines are insanity but I feel the queue is really well designed, especially for its intended use (people holder).

To me, it looks like the best queue ever. But I realize I’m biased!

I think it's possible to see flaws and yet enjoy the ride, especially due to the views. I also think that the ride promises Yoshi's Island due to the fact your ride vehicle is a Yoshi, it plays Yoshi's Island music, and the typography, queue, and a very short scene in the attraction are Yoshi's Island themed. I just think that the buildup to seeing the Yoshi's Island scene does not match with what the interior scene delivers, not even that it is stylistically different.

Look, if I were designer, and if the conceit is that each time we go through a warp pipe we were jumping back and forth between Yoshi's Island and the Mushroom Kingdom, then as we re-enter the loading dock, after Captain Toad congratulates us, I'd add a simple scene of Yoshi looking on towards the sky and seeing the Stork fly away with the two brothers, or else something to show that Yoshi had a Successful Journey. Normies would be like AWW look at the babies! Fans would get the reference. Look, as much as I'd hate it, paint it on a wall like Snow White. It'd be the payoff to the bizarre mid-ride interior scene, and a payoff to the name "Yoshi's Journey". I just think this is the ending the ride deserves. It's like the hot dog scene with the sneeches. Not mind-blowing, but it's good storytelling and leaves you with an "aww".

EDIT: I agree with the above, the MK queue is insane and gorgeous. Just from the POV, and obviously never having ridden it, I think it's buildup and pacing is wildly perfect, feels like stepping into a real game. Will probably top the charts for favorite queue ever, or at least top five-ish.

You know, I was really looking forward to going to SNW when it opens in Hollywood, but you would think that with all of this planning and development, you think they would've had some thought and consideration as to how SNW fits into the timeline? Is this land set right after Mario and Luigi leave their plumbing job in Brooklyn? Is this before the time Luigi told Mario he found a football only to be told, "It's a stone Luigi!"? Does this take place before Luigi inherited a mansion only to find out that he was squatting John Gotti's Mansion? Is Pink Yoshi canon to Mario Lore?

Geez Luweez, the POV for MK comes out and this biggest discussion about the land is the TIMELINE!?????

The friggin' TIMELINE!? About a video game with Italian plumbers from Brooklyn in a fantasy world of talking mushrooms and flying dinosaurs?!?!?! IT'S. FRIGGIN. MARIO.

I mean, we all have our not picks and praises about the land or the main ride but why are we so obsessed about how this fits in the Mario-verse!?

.....Marioverse.....I low-key want to see a movie or video game on this: "Into the Mario-verse": Professer E. Gadd created a machine that jumps between dimensions and Mario and Luigi see alternate universe Marios like the proper video game Mario, the live action Mario with Bob Hoskins.....I digress.

lol

The land is a celebration of Nintendo...that is all

I opened myself up to ridicule with that one. It was just a point towards minor inconsistency, not a main issue I had with the attraction.

My issue with the Yoshi ride is the overall length of the attraction, as well as the mixture between Yoshi’s Island and 3D World (and game that features no Yoshis). The queue builds up to a Yoshi’s Island experience, and you don’t get that payoff. It should have been a dark ride with an outdoor section rather than an outdoor ride with a dark ride section.

I don’t think Yoshi’s goal was anything other than a churched-up TTA.

Guys, not sure we should really be getting into... timelines for a game series that has literally never taken canon seriously. Mario Kart literally has Baby Mario and adult Mario available to play in the same race, simultaneously. There is nothing weird about a bunch of kid-friendly characters showing up in the Yoshi ride.

You'd think we were talking about movies.
