See, I would agree; if it werent for the fact that the next big hurdle, LA and SoCal, are quickly getting close to reopen their theaters: with March 19th seemingly poised to possibly allow movie theaters to be reopened.

I don't disagree with any of this, but I am moderately skeptical that big box office numbers are going to return before a larger chunk of the population has a chance to get vaccinated (i.e. late May/June).

Now, if that's not as much of a concern for Disney, then by all means, stick with the current schedule. I certainly plan to be back going to theaters as soon as I'm vaccinated (and likely the very day after the "waiting period" is over!).

I could honestly see Black Widow staying till July for most major movieplex theaters; especially if they want it to do more long-term numbers as opposed to short-term.

The thing is for me... how much is a Black Widow film (made after she's already dead) really going to make, anyway? I know a lot of Marvel fans weren't looking forward to this movie even last year before COVID. I just think get this thing out there and hopefully you cover costs. If you make money, then great.

Of course, I guess if they do move Black Widow to Shang Chi's spot, there's still 5 months between the July release date and Eternals, meaning they could move Shang-Chi to somewhere in the middle so it doesn't screw with the timeline again possibly?

The problem with shifting again is that the Disney+ shows may have to slow down the speed at which they release due to being too far ahead of the movies timeline-wise.

Ideally, I think you'd try to have BLACK WIDOW come out in mid-June, then SHANG-CHI at the end of July.

Of course, CRUELLA, LUCA, and JUNGLE CRUISE complicate things.

I could see them moving it back.

I will be seeing it in Theaters if they are open in LA and sure even if the film is a 7/10 will be a good time because its going to be nice just to laugh in person with others and enjoy a movie.

I think Disney's gonna be taking a hard look at how Godzilla vs. Kong performs in theaters, especially since it's using the day/date model. I don't think Premiere Access is out of the question. You have to remember, today was their shareholder meeting, meaning they wanted to project confidence going forward so the stock price goes up.

I just think then they will push it back to me Black Widow (or any first MCU movie) is the rest test and push to get people to do it once...because once you do it once its easier to go back out and be like I didn't get covid last time...so I can risk it again and or...i have the shot and cool the movies seem safe now.

I think the film will do poorly compared to what Disney wants but great compared to anything else we have seen sine COVID

Or, to counteract that, Black Widow would be the first real "Must See" Premiere Access titles if they went that route and Disney gets 100% of that money. They still wouldn't make a ton of money because you know friends would be splitting paying for Black Widow so that they could all watch it whether it be in the same place or from different places and they're just using the same Disney+ account. It would be extremely interesting to see how it would do though and if people would choose to go to a theater or watch at home.

That could work too....but IDK I just feel like people want to get out and while VOD is the future...right now people want to get out of the house.

In the end how ever they do it it will make money and if they dont...we are in some big trouble

With Biden giving the official July 4th target for return to semi-normal, gotta wonder if Disney moves this to Shang Chi’s spot now.

That would be the perfect movie for that weekend.

Black Widow just feels more and more out of place. Creatively it feels like such a cut-de-sac, we're getting a prequel for a character whose story has already wrapped up in the larger narrative.

It felt like a great last hurrah or transition point to Phase 4, but with 3 Disney+ shows out by the time this premieres, it does feel like regression.

So I guess it wasn't such a last minute call after all. Glad Disney came to their senses and are releasing this to streaming.

The good thing is they only pushed Shang-Chi to September instead of knocking the whole schedule off course again. I would've been pissed if Black Widow moving to July 9th meant every movie moving back a release date again. Especially since this movie is taking place anywhere from 5-7 years in the past based on the MCU current year of 2023.

Black Widow feels like it should've been a Disney+ series the more I think about it, because isn't this movie more like a passing of the torch in a way to Yelena Belova?

I agree, particularly because it's next year's movies that I'm considerably more interested in than this year's. I don't want to have to keep waiting for DOCTOR STRANGE!

Yup, SM3, Strange 2, Thor 4 I can't wait for. I do think that Shang-Chi and Eternals being slept on by a lot of people. Problem is, with everything constantly being pushed back, we haven't seen a trailer for either yet.
