Based on how they did previews for Rat, it’s good chance in April, but only for DVC, AP, Golden Oak, and Club 33.

Yeah, that's sounding good for a Memorial Day open. Earlier I was really banking on that since it seemed like my trip would be in June, but thanks to a well-timed article, it's been pushed back to mid-August for me.

I can go down to 40-44", but there's no way that this coaster will be 37" when MK's Space Mountain, which is much less intense and much less going on, is at 44".

me and rob were thinking 42-44" max, and the banked turns with turning might make almost inversions in places, my gut says as close to ToT as they can get it

I thought I posted this here:

40"

Other thoughts: Feels like we're getting to a point where the walls may be moved in closer to the entrance soon and the Star Blaster will be out there for guests to pose in front of.

EDIT:
Yup, with the lighting lower, this queue reminds me much more of Mission Breakout's queue.

42" is a good height requirement for a coaster like this, and fully agreed about the lighting. The show lighting does feel akin to Mission Breakout with the shadowplay from the grates etc.

Yeah, for a reversed launch coaster that doesn't go upside-down and no OTSR, 42" seems about right.

Not to go off topic, but do y'all think Disney would ever build another coaster that goes upside down, I feel like in today's era they wouldn't. The days of Rock 'n Roller coaster are over in my opinion, back in the 90s Disney was trying to attract thrill seekers to their parks, now I feel like they don't really care.

This was a valid point in like 2013-2015... but this is a thread about something new being built.

Hopefully at D23 this year we get a better idea of what the future holds. I know we don't really have much of anything announced for the future, but since 2016, we have gotten...

2016: Frozen Ever After, Soarin' Around The World

2017: Pandora: The World of Avatar (while keeping Festival of the Lion King). The new Green side of Mission: Space opened this year, along with nighttime shows Happily Ever After and Rivers Of Light.

2018: Toy Story Land opened this year, using a large swath of backstage land that was previously never accessible to guests.

2019: Star Wars Galaxy's Edge, Epcot Forever replaced Illuminations

2020: Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railroad opened this year (although it unfortunately took the place of The Great Movie Ride). Disneyland is getting a far better deal with it being a new build.

2021: Remy's Ratatouille Adventure, Harmonious and Enchantment all open.

2022: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Galactic Starcruiser open.

Maybe in terms of what type of rides are needed for certain attractions. I remember how innovative the Harry Potter Forbidden Journey ride is (G2 ride system), the same goes for the Spider-Man ride at IOA (track-roaming platform that provides the forward motion to move the vehicle through each show scene), Indiana Rides at Disneyland (EMV), the Tower of Terror (free-fall ride and its ability to move the vehicle in and out of the vertical motion shaft), and some others. Now new IPs have these ride systems being reused instead. It makes me wonder if both UC and WDI have any idea of developing other types of ride systems not being used in other parks before.

They were supposed to be more ambitious though. In another universe:

2020: Mickey, Rat, Harmonious

2021: Guardians, Tron, Galactic Starcruiser, Play Pavilion

2022: New Spaceship Earth, Poppins, New Epcot Spine

That's not to mention anything that was heavily rumored but unnanounced. Their pace over the last few years is impressive given what the 00s looked like in WDW, but I'm not gonna give them props for catching up on decades of development within a five year span, still not having enough to do at many of their parks as a result, leaving fans without major announcements for years, giving no indication based on the current company culture that similar big projects are on the way, and possibly extending the construction of those projects for years in a nakedly transparent measure to spread costs at the expense of theming and the public's patience.

Going back and looking closer at the update linked in this post it may have been a mix of bright lighting and bad video quality on Twitter that made things look plain? After looking at this new shot I can sort of make out the same patterns here in the original video. I originally thought it was compression artifacts.

I got this at about :07
gotgcr.png

Now that I know what I'm looking I can just make out where those details are in the previous footage. Go figure.

I'm not taking any flack off of what they did (or didn't...) do in the 00's, but credit where it is due. They saw that the parks needed help bad and more importantly I think, they saw that they needed to keep up with Universal Orlando. So while i'm not going to forget the years and years of pretty much nothing new being added, I can at least look at what's going on now and say that i'm happy that we're getting yearly new rides and additions. Like I said, D23 will really be the telltale sign of if more new rides are planned, or if we're back to a drought. DAK and DHS really need more.

About SSE though, had it not been for COVID though, that would've actually happened. I hope that once GotG opens, that (along with Rat) will be enough added capacity to close the ride and they actually decide to go through with it. SSE is like Space Mountain - it hasn't had a refurb in a LONG time and it needs one badly.

More extreme roller coasters lead to difficult theming choices for Disney. I still think that zombie Captain America at DCA for Halloween was a test for making more adult and thrilling experiences at the parks.

Plus, there's still Tron to look forward to. But I agree with @Nick. I'd be okay if D23 announcements are more about upgrades and refurbishments this time around since A LOT of attractions could sorely use them.

Plus, focusing on smaller A-D tickets and entertainment (even though, some of that was what was canceled from previous announcements). Oh, and Animal Kingdom needs some love badly but it has it's 25th anniversary next year if they want to have it coincide with something.

It was valid 2006-2013, a good chunk of time when Disney was happy to add playgrounds to queues and that’s it.

Sure Disney is building now but it’s still so slow that when they get back around to a park it’s 88 years later. Watching some old WDW trip planning VHS on YouTube and every year parks would get something new, sometimes multiple things!
