yeah, meanwhile, I have become more confused by what the tan fabric is all about. Usually the layers from back (unseen) to front are

wire mesh, to stop the shotcrete from filling up the otherwise hollow interior (courtyard and cliffs of Hogwarts):
stucco_wire_mesh_Manufacturer__7983_8.jpg

2"-4" "chairs" to create a divider between the mesh and rebar (they want the rebar to be dead center of the concrete):
rebar_chair2.jpg

rebar:
NewsImage_15775.jpg

The above photo does not need the mesh because the ground stops the concrete.

The chairs are attached to both the mesh and rebar. So, a 3" inch chair would be used where they want the end concrete thickness to be approximately 6" with the rebar in the middle for strength.

I hope this helps in understanding the process.

Thanks Teebs. Starting with DAK Tree of Life a lot of the rock work is using preformed rebar and that's what you're talking about and looks like what is coming. I think all of that will be up quick. Think rough London waterfront quickly.

Anyone want to take a stab at an official announcement. Perhaps along with what is replacing Nascar Grill and what is happening in Garden of Allah I feel like transformers and Diagon alley were announced early.

If they plan on opening it this year, I'd guess with the 25th anniversary stuff. If not, probably around HHN.

25th anniversary. They will show a film with how the park has evolved, how kong helped built the park, then announce his return.

To this day one of the most beautiful things ive read on this forum was something along the lines of

"Kong was what made universal what it is. When kongfrontation left, that was the beginning of the dark days at universal. Now that Kong is coming back, its kind of like those days are behind us"

Cant wait for the return of the king!

Can we get this out of the way now! Expect Kong will be seen from the entrance area around Ripsaw Falls. The building is too big. No amount of trees are gonna cover it. Especially the unthemed side of the building. Can we get over it before there's endless talk about a show building being seen from another land. Thanks!!!

Im not nearly as obsessed about "sight lines" in the park as many other theme park geeks are. Don't mind seeing a show building. Doesn't ruin my experience at the park one bit.

I'd rather have a new E ticket where part of the show building can be seen from minor observation points, than having no new E attractions at all.

This will not have T2's problem, in that no one knows it's there.

Yeah, I have always had a problem with that because it is such a great attraction. I had been going every two weeks for 6 months when a manager asked how I liked Terminator. My response was, "where is that, is it any good?".

Stopped by today and I'm really surprised by how much it's starting to resemble the temple gate from Skull Island at this point.

It really is huge. I cannot wait for this to be finished. I'm excited just to see the rockwork begin even. More pics from today here.

Same here. What matters is what's on the inside.

I care about sightlines but I also know the limitations of space. But once you've gone through a Jurassic Park gate with Hogwarts Castle in the background, it just...all goes out the window.

I kind of like seeing the tops of highly themed facades sticking up above the tree line in the distance. It draws you farther into the park.

Great pics Alicia, thanks!

It is starting to look as if that brownish material may be some new backing that replaces the wire mesh. I believe those black dots are the "chairs" that I spoke of. It doesn't look strong enough to support concrete as a backing, but who knows.

You're welcome! I've been posting pictures of the construction since they first cleared the land around 7 months ago. It's been a blast to watch the progress.

And thanks! I like to write a little something about every film I see in theaters. I see a lot, so it's fun to keep track.
